This is the most ridiculous boxing I've ever seen here. First time I've ever spoke out about a boxing. 90 days is and was a joke.

I attempted to speak about this in private with the mod but it wasn't replied to.

The boxing was warranted...for like a week. Or two. 90 days is beyond ridiculous.

Long story short, CrimsonFox got boxed for excessively trolling in an either political or religious thread, I forget which.

I'd be surprised if he'll be back (and frankly I can't say I blame him - after 90 days I'd expect he'll have new online haunts/habits) - which kinda defeats the purpose of boxing.

As has been shown in other analysis, the board's active community is getting older/quieter/shrinking...why the desire to accelerate this process I don't know.

Holy cow, that was forever ago. CF is still boxed for that? That's crazy!

I was wondering where he was, too, since he is usually a pretty consistent poster. This boxing happened so long ago, I just forgot about it.

Most of our mods do a great job, but there are a few with boxing rights who frankly should box themselves for being asshats.

I don't know what he did, but I agree that a 90 day boxing is pointless. Just ban someone at that point. If I got boxed for 90 days I'd just delete the shortcut from my browser and forget this place existed.

I think the tipping point will be when the mods outnumber the posters. Then they'll freak out and start boxing each other. Until one stands alone. He'll be the winner.

But ya, the whole thing has always been dumb. People in their 30s and 40s getting "time out." We don't need it.

Well, yes and no. I have seen things where a boxing is warranted, and I don't disagree with the boxing decision on CF for his trolling in that thread. But 90 days is ludicrously excessive.

People have been forever complaining about the modding here, yet FOFC is still pretty vibrant. This peculiar little place has consistently proven to be bigger than any one person. There have been threats for years about users leaving en masse and creating another community or finding another online outlet. Yet, that hasn't happened and it won't happen. The only thing that will kill this community is when the majority of us hit like 60+ and starting dying off from internet addiction related fatass disease.

It's a lot less vibrant than it used to be. Nobody's leaving en masse but the mods have driven off some long-time posters. That's been detrimental to the board.

Maybe they're right, maybe we're all just safer here with all those troublemakers incarcerated. I tend to feel like I can take care of myself OK, but maybe others really need that protection and security. And hey, maybe we should extend this type of thing to other parts of society - putting middle-aged adults in time out for specific periods of time if they disagree too strongly on politics or something. Bans are definitely sometimes necessary on any message boards but "time outs" are so silly.

Oddly enought I thought of this selection Sunday. The past few NCAA tournaments we have chatted on AIM during the games. Haven't been on AIM in a while, going to have to log on and see if he is around.

dola- as for the boxings, there have been some questionable decisions and poor communication. But there have also been times when Mods stepped up, Ben just did very recently when I was having log in issues.

What more petty, complaining about the board getting worse, complaining about the people complaining about the board getting worse, or putting people in "time out"? I mean, it's all kind of petty, but the ones who need it for some kind of self-affirmation are the most amusing.

Is it? I still see threads with thousands upon thousands of views and hundreds of replies.

And frankly, for every person you think gets driven off by the modding (allegedly) I can guarantee you that there are people who visit less because of massive amount of low/no content posting from someone like CF.

I really don't think self-affirmation is the motive for posting here. I, like you, am just posting an observation. Believe me, I have no favored status here as Ben and I have had a lot more conflict than the average FOFC member.

Good catch. He disapppeared so suddenly I didn't quite realize he hadn't posted in a bit. I just checked and was surprised to see he hasn't posted since mid-January. Nothing in those last few posts that I saw that would indicate if some kind of issue was pending. Just seemed like his usual quality posting in various threads. Hope he's okay.

Is that maybe why the banning was so long, because he's been deemed to be a "low/no content poster?" Does that mean not taking part in fantasy drafts and stuff? I'm not sure a lot of posters here can claim that their contributions are so much more epically substantial. I certainly can't. I kind of like the threads about bullshit.

I don't harp on the modding here. After all, it was my decision to hand the site over to Ben and I'm sure he had good reason to drop the banhammer on CF. Personally, I don't think I'd ban someone for 90 days. IMO if they needed 90 in the box, they don't need to be here at all.

Looking at that religion thread I think maybe the mods had an itchy trigger finger expecting the worst, but as been the case more or less for years here on stuff like that, the conversation was completely civil and pretty interesting. So CF got banned for being silly. Which, I noticed, Subby was pretty excited about after it happened.

I think that goes to Subby's point that folks may have left the board (or certainly visit and post less frequently) for reasons other than the modding.

Hell, I didn't even know our posts were being graded for content.

Out of curiosity I looked at CF's last few pages of non-WW posts. Looks like a pretty normal sampling of topics & posts to me, certainly didn't see anything (like 50 straight "LOL's" or whatever) that looked all that unusual.

{shrug}

He got boxed for trolling, nothing more.

I'm not saying I am taking issue with what he posts. Just saying that people leave here for many different reasons, including what they may perceive as boring or repetitive or NOT FUNNY message content.

I don't really care whether the modding is tough or lenient, but I do think the mods have an unnecessarily hostile relationship with the posters that I just don't understand.

FOFC has always had pretty lenient moderation compared to almost every other board of this scale I have used.
