After the Krispy Kreme Burger, how about a Coca-Cola Steak?

Yeah, someone pointed me at this, and I don't know whether I'm more shocked that someone thought of it, or that I didn't.

Has anyone tried anything like this for a steak marinade?

This is a pretty common technique that I swear I've seen used for decades....I want to say it has roots in hispanic/mexican culture (though I may be pulling that straight out of my butt), so maybe it's more of a west coast phenomena. Similarly, I've been taught to use a can of root beer when making pulled pork, and I've also heard of a chicken marinade using 7-Up....though I don't know if there's some specific set of rules for your meat/soda marinade pairing.

Number 2 seems like it could possibly be a reasonable facsimile of Korean BBQ marinade if you added a tablespoon or two of sesame oil

Whatever happened to the old tried and true ALCOHOL marinades? That's when meat tastes sweet. I love marinating steaks in beer, herbs, and spices.

Oh, and grilled fish. Beer, herbs, spices, and lemon wrapped together with the fish in aluminum foil make for a tasty, tasty meal.

Dr. Pepper More than Mesquite Marinade

I took at smoking class at the KC Culinary Center a few years ago and the guys who teach the class use their own Dr Pepper marinade but you can actually buy it as well.

Yep, when I saw the cola marinade, my first thought was the common Dr. Pepper stuff.

I'm a big fan of a coke marinade for hams and pulled pork.

But if you are putting anyhing that harsh on a stak I hope is a flank or shoulder cut. A good cut of beef would be ruined

When I slow-cook chicken, I make a sauce that uses barbecue sauce, orange juice, and honey. Turns out really well, and is one of only two things I cook that other people actually ask for.
