Official College Football Week 7 thread

The leaves are starting to turn. That is a signal we are in the heart of the college football season.

Here's the matchups this weekend between Top 25 teams:

Oregon at Washington
Missouri at Georgia
Florida at LSU

Rutgers at Louisville Thursday night.

Teddy B will likely carve up our secondary but Louisville hasn't been tested at all yet; I'm hoping we can continue to be stout enough against the run where the bend but don't break philosophy can play out.

UL will win but I think 17 points is way too high a spread.

DT Ondre Pipkins is done for the year with a torn ACL. Considering Michigan's lack of DL play, that doesn't help. I still expect Michigan to beat PSU, but it could be close.

NW @ Wisconsin will be huge for NW. Wisconsin likely won't win their division, but the Legends is still wide open. Two early conference losses for NW would make it difficult for them to reach the Big Ten Championship considering they have Nebraska, MSU, and Michigan to play.

SC feels like a weak 4-1 team so it will be interesting to see how well they do against Arkansas after a week of Clowney drama.

What are some thoughts on Clowney? Is he saving himself for the NFL? Just soft? No competitive fire? Or are these injuries legitimate?

Not sure on the others, but I think the ribs injury is a bluff. It doesn't sound like it was that much of an issue if at all until he said he was sitting.

I think it'll definitely hurt his draft stock.

One team is pissed about last season, one team is pissed because they shouldn't have 2 losses....

It's going to be a good game...

I really hope so. GT is pretty beaten up after playing Va Tech and Miami back to back. That combined with the travel and altitude and it could be a long Saturday evening for the Yellow Jackets.

That said, it will be my son's first Ga Tech game in person, so it should be a fun weekend.

I read on a message board through a source that at one point he refused to do any training and got into an altercation with a coach, challenging him to a fight. Apparently the locker room is divided.

Just a rumor though.

Starting to sound like Albert Haynesworth Part II. Whichever NFL team takes him better have a strong veteran presence in the locker room.

It will be a great game. One tip, October in Utah, weather can change at a drop, make sure you guys pack the coats, you might not need them, but the chances are, you will.

Red River Shootout at the Texas State Fair this weekend. David Ash is going to miss his 3rd straight game with concussion issues. Unfortunately for him, I think he might not ever see the field again.

The bad news is UMass is 0-5, our starting QB was 3-17 for 20 yards last week (the upside is no picks, because it's hard for DB's to catch it when it's bouncing 5 yards in front of them, or sailing 10 yards out of bounds), we're averaging 5.25 points/game vs. FBS opponents, we lost by double digits at home to an FCS team, and ex-players are joining together to get the current coach fired. The good news is we're playing Miami (Ohio), who's also 0-5, and just fired its head coach and its offensive coordinator, so we're actually favored by 2.5. Feel the MAC-tion!

Question for Dr. Sak - what's the rule on a punt for when the punting team "A" can recover it? Like, if the PR muffs it, it's a live ball and Team A can fall on it for a first down. I think if it's a block behind the line, the punter can pick it up, but he has to run past the first down line? But what happens if the punt is partially blocked by Team B, but continues in the air/bounce past the 1st down line? Can Team A fall on it as a live ball and gain the first down/retain possession, or is there something special about the punt crossing the line of scrimmage in the air?

Helluva back-to-back for the Huskies. Oregon's offense looks better than ever, and their defense is quite good. On the plus side, it's a home game, and this will be by far the best team Oregon has faced so far this season, while Washington has already faced a tough test vs. Stanford.

Wild card is how injured Keith Price's thumb is. Sark says he's fine, but that could just be coach-speak.

Yeah, and even so...when ESPN grants you the opportunity to grace their channel in primetime, you take it. It will likely be a disappointing NYC number compared to when these teams have played in this slot in the past though.

Iowa goes into a bye week. Then it is OSU, NW and Wiscy. Going to be a long month.

That is pretty sick. These teams have developed a pretty fun rivalry and this should be a good one to watch. Plus you'll be able to scout your possible future franchise QB.

Similar story... message board rumor says that he is going to be suspended for contact with an agent. Shit 0.01% of these end up being true but you still feel like an "insider" when you talk to the guys at lunch about what you heard and then it happens.

Correct. If it is blocked behind the line, and stays behind the line, Team A can run, pass, or punt the ball.

If a punt is blocked anywhere near the expanded neutral zone (3 yard belt) then touching by B is ignored and the play goes on as if it was never touched (blocked). So if A were to jump on the ball, B would get the ball at that point.

This technically should go in last week's thread but not many of you would see it. Before the game we have to be out on the field an hour before the game. I am standing in the one endzone where the home team is warming up policing the area because it is right by the visiting team's tunnel and they are about to come out.

I am scanning the crowd because it is right by the student section and I see this nice young lady exchanging banter with the opposing players in the tunnel. Then I see her lift up her shirt and flash them...talk about being at the right place at the right time.

Home game for UNLV vs. 0-5 Hawaii. We absolutely need to win this game if we want to have a shot at going to a bowl game this season. It *should* be an easy victory, but considering they won 48-10 last year, I'm not taking anything for granted.

I'm not so sure it's as much about Mizzou as it is about the depleted Georgia roster. They've got a ton of injuries right now. Here's an article from the GA Rivals site detailing the situation.

Dawgs forge ahead

The managing editor at that site (Anthony Dasher) has already said that he'd be "shocked" to see Gurley play at all.

It's a huge opportunity game for Mizzou given the lack of Alabama or LSU on the schedule. Win this one, and you can legitimately start talking about a division crown with USC and UF both coming to Columbia this year.

True.. but it is what it is. We had the injury bug last year and you can already tell we are a much better team than last season.

Even with all the Georgia injuries.. going there and winning would be a high spot in my Mizzou season.

Injuries or not, Missouri has played a pretty horrible schedule. Sure, the road win at Vandy should count for something, but it really doesn't. Vandy is terrible this year.

I expect UGa to win by at least 2 touchdowns.

It really pains me to say it, but Georgia is a legit top five, if not top two team. I haven't seen Mizzou play a down of football, but if it is a game in the fourth quarter I'll be quite impressed.

Ummm...no. Gonna have to disagree with you there. They have a loss. Clemson beat them. It was not as close as UGA fans claim. Alabama, Oregon, Clemson, FSU and Ohio State are all better than UGA. Maybe even Stanford. Sorry to burst your bubble there.

No bubble to burst. I am as predisposed to dislike UGA as much or more than anyone on this board. Let's see where we are at the end of November. My fear is that it is an 11-1 UGA team playing Alabama for a spot in the national title game.
