Lionel Vital (Redskins running back from 1987)

I was kicking around Pro Football Reference and found this guy

Lionel Vital - Wikipedia

Anyone know his story. Played in three games--averaged 115/game (record for players with no minimum games played). And that was it.

Anyone remember this guy? Did he get injured? Seems really strange that a guy would average >100/game and never play in another game after that.

Was that the strike season?

Hmmm. I think it was. That might be it if he was a replacement player.

Yup, weeks 4, 5, and 6 in '87 were filled with no-names having big games (and a surprising number of strikebreakers)

Despite being a replacement player it is still a bit surprising he didnt latch on to another team with the numbers he put up especially against the REAL Cowboys in the 3rd game.

Looks like he got several runs on practice squads after the strike. He's had a great front office career as well.

Can you imagine if a strike like that happens now with fantasy football. Does everyone have to drop their strikers and sift through waiver wires picking up no names?
