This bracket has lots of pairs I've never heard either of (to my recollection)

Breeze 90s observation probably accounts for that.

Interesting that this bracket has a couple of songs that I just flat out hate (Macarena and Had a Bad Day). It was fun to vote against them.

If the bottom half of this plays out the way I would want, we'll have a great catfight to emerge from the sub-bracket. I'm not sure how I'd vote there, yet, I really like both songs.

Everyone at the sportsbar has stopped paying attention to the other games and is now watching the 8 vs 249 game and losing their minds every time a 5 ft 10 white kid from Ready to Go makes a three.

I wasn't surprised at the voting results but the Toadies song is such a good one.

This one is now closed...

Quick Summary:

We had our first tie, and it involved what in a typical 64 team field would have been a 2 seed vs a 15. However, in overtime (using the tiebreaker) Los Del Rios pulls it off and will move on.

The top half of this bracket was pretty hotly contested in round 1, but the bottom half looks to be the spot were things could be very interesting in round 2, with the top half looking really soft.

It was mentioned numerous times in the thread but Sinead O'Connor's big win over what turns out to be a strong opponent was very interesting. That match-up tied the most votes for a pair that we've had so far (early yet)...but the other one was Carl Dougless, where the total was carried by the strong performance of his song.

Deeper Thoughts:

Los Del Rio vs Republica - I really expected Los Del Rio would lose in the first round. I thought there would be enough people voting against this song that it would fall, and then when it got matched up with a decent opponent with a rock edged tune, I thought for sure it would lose. It nearly did...unfortunately, I started this without having a firm plan in mind to break ties (stupid I know)...so the only thing I could do was to break it myself - in this case I had to remove my vote, which allowed Los Del Rio to move on. It will be interesting in round 2 to see what the vote breakdown is, because I still believe their are Macarena haters that will vote against this song.

Sheriff vs Wreckx-n-Effect - Felt this would be a toss up, and it was close. This seems to be a pretty weak pairing - so it probably won't matter.

The Exciters vs The Gentrys - two oldies going head to head. I though the Gentrys would win because the song is more up tempo, but I knew it was going to be close.

Edwyn Collins vs Joan Osborne - this one surprised me. I figured the Joan Osborne tune was going to be more recognizable and that would push it over the top. Also I found this result odd when compared to the Edie Brickell outcome...I expected more synergy between those two songs. The Collins song must have been more popular than I expected. If it is, it could win this half of the bracket based on who is left.

Sinead O'Conner vs Toadies - As many pointed out the Toadies song is strong...and this was a terrible draw. The fact that Sinead won big against a song that clearly had numerous supporters indicates it will be a tough out.

Donna Lewis vs Wheatus - wasn't sure what to expect here. I thought Weatus would have a nice following, but the poppy Lewis tune won pretty easy.

Edie Brickell vs Daniel Powter - another one I wasn't sure how it would play out. Again, I expected it would be closer than it ended up being. Interestingly, it turned out very similar to the Lewis pairing above.

Chris Isaak vs Sneaker - huge blow out...no question about this one. Will be watching to see how Isaak performs against a much tougher opponent in round 2.
