Looks like we'll have several higher seeded teams win this time around. Plus some really bad draws...a couple of match ups that I think both songs could have done pretty well in this thing if they hadn't had to meet up in the first round.

Agreed. 6 Underground is a great song and I had a crush on voice of the lead singer girl in the song.

Something in the Air and Magic with horrible draws. And I hate Puttin on the Ritz. Hope that one loses soon.

I agree...I wish one or both were in the bottom 4 songs. That seems like an exceptionally weak part of the bracket, and given the early voting returns I'm probably not alone in that assessment.

I'm going to form a dark money PAC to get Sneaker Pimps over the line here. This is an outrage.

This one is now closed...some thoughts on this round:

A few more voters in Group B over Group A

The winners were the songs I expected, but what I didn't expect was the margin of victory some of these songs won by. For instance, Kung Fu Fighting getting the most votes in the grouping was interesting, especially given it was going against a song that i believe most people weren't voting against. Also a bit surprised that Puttin' on the Ritz won so handily.

I didn't want to vote for Ritz but the other song left me no choice.

Deeper Thoughts (as described in Round 1 - Group A):

Big Country vs Robert Knight - I wonder how many of Knights 10 votes are actually voting against Big Country? If it is a bunch they could be in trouble in round 2.

The Chantays vs Mungo Jerry - I expected this upset, as I'm sure most everyone did. This iconic song is in a tough section of the bracket, but it may do some damage. The only item that might be a red flag for the song is, it got significantly less votes in round 1 that the other songs in the top half, and I don't believe it's opponent was as strong as some of the other songs.

Carl Dougless vs Pilot - The semi novelty song destroyed a solid 70s pop song, which I didn't expect. I thought Kung Fu would win, but never did I think it would get the most votes in the group and win by 32 votes. Looking forward to see how the next round plays out...

The Verve vs. Thunderclap Newman - Another classic song (Thunderclap) with a tough draw. I knew they wouldn't win, I did think they might keep it closer.

Norman Greenbaum vs Johnny Hates Jazz - Played out about like I expected, with Jazz receiving a respectable number of results, especially given the competition.

The Singing Nun vs Len - How did the singing nun get 5 votes...people that don't like the Len song? Probably...

Taco vs Sneaker Pimps - Extremely weak pairing...as I mentioned surprised Taco won so handily, but understand why. Will see how this song fairs against another song that appears to be a weak winner from round 1.

Merril Bainbridge vs King Missile - I wasn't sure how this would play out given I didn't expect either song to be particularly popular. Unfortunately, Bainbridge, eventually might be moving on to round 3.
