Hog QB had a great game. Hope he continues to get chances to shine.

Bengals vs Texans recap and final score for NFL Week 16 shootout - Cincy Jungle
Quote:
Brandon Allen’s health was unclear going into the game, but he proved to be in great shape. He completed 29 of his 37 passes for 371 yards and two touchdowns, with no interceptions or sacks. Not only was his yardage total a career high, but it was the second-highest total for the Bengals this year, behind only Joe Burrow’s 406 yards in Week 7 against the Browns.

I'd like to see Allen as the backup next year. He might get some early season playing time given Burrow's injury. If they also add a veteran that can mentor both Burrow and Allen at least through camp, they'll be in decent shape.

Well not quite yet. Anyone who picks him up has to pay 4 million.

The Giants got a lot of shit from people for picking Daniel Jones over Dwayne Haskins, even some flat out calling them a racist organization, and even though Jones is looking very much like he's not going to end up being a franchise QB, it sure looks like the "Jones is a better prospect than Haskins" part of their evaluation was correct.

Ah yes, Stephen A. Smith was in big on the the Giants being racist thing, but then he also revealed his own racial bias when he called Haskins a "running Quarterback" (after a season in which Haskins threw for almost 5,000 yards and rushed for 100).

How many successful NFL QBs has Urban Meyer developed? Alex Smith is far and away the best and it took him 8 years of NFL coaching to reach a pro bowl.

Those Niner teams and coaching staffs were absolute garbage which didn’t help much.

Heard an amazing stat today. Depending on how things break the giants can make the playoffs or get the 3rd overall pick.

Insanity.

So I have no idea if the Dolphins' approach is "breaking Tua" or whatever. That's next year's problem.

But isn't this the perfect way to use Fitzpatrick, even if they kind of ended up backing into it?

His greatest attributes are that he's loose, he's YOLO, he takes risks, etc.

But as he ends up getting too comfortable, he crosses from risk-taking into insanely reckless. Which is how he ends up going from throwing for 400+ yards per game to throwing 4+ picks in a half and getting benched.

So, by keeping him on the bench and in a backup role, the Dolphins have kept him from getting too comfortable. Instead, he's right where you want him to be as the playoffs are starting: YOLO, but not too YOLO.

Looking over Fitzpatrick’s numbers and longevity, it’s interesting to think about what type of career he would have had if he’d ended up playing for a stable franchise.

It kinda reminds me of the Woodley-Strock combo the Dolphins used in 81-82, except Tua is way better than Woodley.

So happy to see the Bills playing so well. Diggs was totally worth the draft picks and Allen apparently loves throwing to him.

If Belichick is such a genius, I’m questioning why it’s taken him this long to see what he has in Stidham, when it’s been obvious for 6-8 weeks Cam is completely shot.

So Cards/Rams next week is looking like winner takes a playoff spot, and both starting QB's may not start-Goff had surgery on a broken thumb today and Murray was injured at the end of the game yesterday. Both backups are QB's I've never even heard of before. Should be "fun"

He knows he has no shot and is playing for a better draft slot.

I will say I have made a small fortune this year betting the under in passing yards for Cam.

They will be picking around 15th. Hard to think Stidham would have had them with a better record and would have hurt the draft position.

That division winning thins is a pretty easy one:
NYG beats Dallas and Washington lose at Philadelphia. It will create a 3-way tie with DAL, NYG and WAS all 6-10 and the head-to-head-to-head tie-breaker will make NYG's 3-1 record trump WAS' 2-2 and DAL's 1-3.

That 3rd overall pick part will require a lot of games falling their way, at minimum:
Atlanta beats Tampa Bay
Philadelphia beats or ties Washington
Houston beats Tennessee
Cincinnati beats or ties Baltimore
Detroit beats or ties Minnesota or after a loss has a better SOS

Carolina and Denver have 'clinched' a better SOS, they are out of the 3rd pick race.

Detroit (121 wins) currently has an SOS that is half a win worse than NY Giants (121.5 wins) and both teams will as a result of games played see an increase of 5 to their respective SOS. There are four games remaining that can get Detroit 'ahead' of NY Giants: the games of their four common opponents. Atlanta and Washington can increase Detroit's SOS, Chicago and LA Rams can increase NY Giants SOS. To get here, we'll need Atlanta to beat Tampa Bay (see above), which will give Detroit an additional win to their SOS already. Philadelphia has to at least tie, which means Washington can at most add 0.5 with a tie to Detroit's SOS. As a result, to get to the 3rd pick, NY Giants also need help from a losing LA Rams and/or losing Chicago.

If they end up tied on SOS, the team with the worse strength of victory will get the 3rd pick, which regardless of all the results will be slightly worse for Detroit and giving them the 3rd pick.

Was not a Josh Allen believer coming out of college. AT ALL. Good for him. Buffalo is a franchise that's hard to hate, so it's fun when they're good. Good luck in the playoffs.

#26 on the Cowboys should be ejected. Well after the play slammed the crown of his helmet into the facemask of a Giants player. Was flagged for 15 yards but no room for that kind of behavior.

Looks like Mike Evans may have just torn his ACL in a mostly meaningless game for the Bucs. Tough break for them, wonder at what point they just sit Brady.

Ugh. I saw that. Had he caught it would also have the record for consecutive seasons on 1K yards to start a career.

Yep saw that Lathum and I agree, especially after he was laughing about it afterwards-and where was the coach pulling him off the field by his helmet for such stupidity?

Surely there must be a rule against leading with the helmet into the middle of a defenceless receiver’s back? That looked nasty

I think there is a lot of value in finishing 5th and playing the NFC East champion, rather than finishing 6th and going on the road to play Green Bay, Seattle or New Orleans.

Having said that, the Bucs need to lose and the Rams without Goff need to beat the Cards to bump Tampa Bay out of the 5 spot.

Tua got a massive bail out on that 4th down PI penalty... otherwise that slide short of the goal line in a must win game looks pretty ugly.

And yeah, I know he’s the only real QB on the roster, the future of the franchise and he’s had injury issues but why call a designed QB run if he’s not going to actually fight to get into the end zone there.

How much do these officiating consultants on the broadcast make for saying, "the important thing here is that this was the call on the field. The officials need to see something to overturn that. If the call was different on the field, then I could see it going the other way. But it's the call on the field that's really important here."

(Especially since I think the replay rule doesn't even say that. They're just tasked with making the right call).

In all fairness, based on the replay angle of Gallman having the ball in his arms before it was ripped back out, that was a pretty good call.

The hot takes about how Flores mishandled the QB situation will continue for a long time I'd imagine. The narrative sucks because realistically Fitzmagic wasn't winning today with the defense playing like that anyway... but it will be interesting to see how Tua bounces back and if he can quieten all the noise next year.

Man this Cards/Rams game sure would have been nice if it was Goff/Murray rather than the disaster in the making we got.
