TEW: Extreme Championship Wrestling 1997

It's 1997 and Bret Hart has just been screwed out of the WWF Title by Vince McMahon. The wrestling world is still reeling and with Bret Hart debuting on WCW soon everything is about to change. Enter Paul Heyman and ECW. Wrestling is waiting to explode and that means there is room for a third National promotion. Will the guys based out of the Bingo Halls in Philadelphia be able to ride the wave of momentum they've gained into National prominince?

Where we stand we're going to lose a lot of guys to the big two and probably lose guys at different times to tours of Japan. We have some competition below us but our goal is to take their talent and build them up. We have to create stars asap as we're going to lose our top guys sooner rather then later.

Awesome - I'll definitely be checking this out.

It's definitely going to be a challenge - two Global North American companies who can take whoever they want from you at any time. Do you know if there's anyone particularly loyal to Heyman in that mod that won't leave?

As I told Danny on AIM, this one is not for the faint of heart, and is definitely not one that should be played on straight edge mode. When you have your world champ leaving 2 weeks in to be the booker of Jersey All Pro Wrestling, you are in rough shape.

From what I can tell, it's basically Dreamer. When the boards went down yesterday I got through December and Dreamer spurned every offer thrown his way.

Wrestle Observer Breaking News

In breaking news, ECW World Champion Shane Douglas has announced he has signed a deal to be Head Booker of Jersey All Pro Wrestling and will leave ECW effective in one week. When asked for comment, Paul Heyman said it was a travesty that Shane would leave ECW when they needed him most, but by hell or high water, he'll get that ECW World Title back.

PRE SHOW

Reckless Youth d. Trent Acid in 12:46 with the Stretch Plum. (E) Trent Acid improved his Performance skills. These two mesh well and both share a Punk gimmick. With guidance of Mikey Whipreck I think a three man stable of punk hoodlums may have some appeal on the lower card.

Ace Steels gives a promo backstage hyping himself. (E-) Ace has a long ways to go on the mic but he is an old school heel who can bring it in the ring. He may get a shot to do some garbage wrestling with New Jack for a while, so they both get something to do.

MAIN SHOW

Jerry Lynn defeated Rob Van Dam in 12:55 by pinfall with a Tornado DDT. (D+) This was match one in a best of seven series.

Taz is shown backstage berating Sabu. (D+) The two men continue their feud that is looking like it'll end in a violent battle inside a steel Cage.

Christopher Daniels defeated Little Guido in 8:48 by pinfall with the Last Rites. (E+) Daniels and Guido didn't click, but Daniels has a lot of potential. We're going to take the low marks early hoping it pays dividence soon as we need him to be a Star in waiting.

Bam Bam Bigelow attacks Sandman leaving him a bloodied mess in the back. He looks at Sandmans ECW World Title and tells the world it'll be his in a few short weeks. (D) These two are leading to a war.

Justin Credible is backstage talking about how last weeks loss to Dreamer was a fluke. Credible is the future of ECW and Dreamer needs to get the hell out of his way. (E+) Tommy Dreamer defeated Justin Credible in 8:49 by pinfall with a DDT. (C -).

Bam Bam Bigelow & the Dudley Boyz defeated the Sandman, Kronus & New Jack in 10:29 when Bam Bam pinned New Jack following a Diving Headbutt through a table. (C -) Bam Bam was the star of the match and is looking like the man who may be the focal point of ECW.

Show Rating: D

We have D+ popularity in New England so this show may hurt our overall popularity there. We have to find a forumla that works. Heyman wants 80% matches, so I am trying to cut back on the angles but we need to make our big shows work.

PRE SHOW

Mike Quackenbush defeated Reckless Youth in 5:38 by submission with the Lightning Lock (E+) These two didn't mesh. Youth has a hard time meshing with anyone with his style, definetly keeping that in mind.

Devon Storm defeated Trent Acid in 6:19 by pinfall with an Inverted DDT (E+) These two have the potential but they're going to be wrestling a lot of dark shows early on to get their feet wet. Acid is only 17 years old.

Ace Steel cuts a promo (E). Better then last week. Not saying much. I have something in mind for Ace however.

MAIN SHOW

Christopher Daniels defeated Kid Kash in 7:49 by pinfall with the Last Rites (D-). Their styles work but Kash has a character that is just stale. We're going to have to come up with something new for him because he is too talented to be relegated to this suck.

Chris Candido defeated Lance Storm in 9:21 by pinfall with a Blonde Bombshell (D) These two work well, probably better as partners, which is where they'll be heading eventually.

The Sandman is backstage looking for Bam Bam Bigelow. He finds Bigelow near his car and beats him down with his Singapore Cane. (C-) The heat is continuing to their Main Event match at House Party.

The Dudley Boyz defeated Bad Breed in 9:33 when D-Von defeated Ian Rotten by Submission. The Dudleys made their first defense of the ECW Tag Team Titles. (D) Ian Rotten is absolutely detested and won't be coming back.

Jerry Lynn defeated Rob Van Dam in 8:33 by pinfall with a Tornado DDT. (C-) Jerry Lynn leads their best of seven series 2-0. These two are always good for a solid match but the ante must be upped as a C- isn't cutting it.

Taz defeated John Kronus in 10:32 by pinfall with a Northern Lights Suplex. Taz makes defense #4 of his ECW Television Title (D) Kronus and Taz didn't click at all.

Show Rating: D

Another lackluster show, my own fault not booking Dreamer. He'll be on most shows from here on out as he constantly delievers and is very loyal.

PRESHOW

Kid Kash & Mike Quackenbush defeated Trent Acid & Devon Storm in 9:48 when Kid Kash defeated Trent Acid after the Dead Level (D-)

Reckless Youth defeated Mikey Whipreck in 5:47 with a Frong Splash (E+)

MAIN SHOW

Paul Heymn and Joey Styles hype up the House Party Main Event of the Sandman vs Bam Bam Bigelow with the Stipluations To Be Determined (C). This feud is slowly building up, finally. We are giving the fans something to look forward to, let's hope they deliever.

Tommy Dreamer comes out to the ring and lets Justin Credible know he isn't going anywhere and for Credible to beat him, he'll have to kill him first (C-). Dreamer is showing more charisma.

Tommy Dreamer beat Axl Rotten in a hardcore match in 12:01 after a Piledriver through a table (C-). Dreamer delievers two big back to back segments.

Taz and Rob Van Dam defeated Jerry Lynn and Sabu in 10:49 when Rob Van Dam beat Lynn by pinfall after the Frog Splah (C). Going into House Party, these four are all wrestling rematches from Holiday Hell, this time there will be real finishes. I like how they click.

Bam Bam Bigelow defeated New Jack in 7:24 following Greetings From Asbury Park (D). The crowd hates New Jack. He may be joining Ian Rotten on the unemployment line.

Ace Steel is seen backstage attacking Boo Bradley (F+).

The Sandman defeated Bubba Ray Dudley in 11:44 by pinfall with a Flying Leg Drop. The Sandman makes defense #1 of his ECW World Title (D). Sandman was tiring near the end of the match. We're going to need Sandman/Bigelow to be short and sweet.

Show Rating: D+

Nothing of note from the show, other then everyone hates New Jack.

In shocking news, Co-Holder of the ECW Tag Team Titles Bubba Ray Dudley has left ECW to head to AAA, an interesting fit to say the least. The titles have been immediatley vacated and how they will be determined has yet to be decided.

MAIN SHOW

Tommy Dreamer and Axl Rotten defeated Chris Candido and D-Von Dudley in 11:54 when Tommy Dreamer defeated Chris Candido by pinfall with a DDT (D+)

Chris Candido and D-Von Dudley don't work well as a team, their timing is all over the place. The colour commentary gave the match a boost. The great performance of Tommy Dreamer really stood out. Tommy Dreamer is improving in Performance skills. D-Von Dudley is improving in Technical skills.

Justin Credible and Lance Storm defeated Christopher Daniels and Kid Kash in 10:20 when Lance Storm defeated Kid Kash by submission with a Canadian Maple Leaf. (D)

The announcing quality lifted the match. The colour commentary gave the match a boost. Lance Storm looked good out there. This match brought the crowd's mood down. Kid Kash is improving in Performance skills.

A video is played showing the brutal encounters between Bam Bam Bigelow and the Sandman, leading into their ECW World Title match at House Party (C+)

Rob Van Dam drew with Sabu in 10:49 when the referee lost control and stopped the match. (D)

Rob Van Dam and Sabu just don't click at all, and it showed in their performances. The colour commentary gave the match a boost.

Taz defeated Jerry Lynn in 8:38 by pinfall with a T-Bone Suplex. Taz makes defence number 5 of his ECW World Television title.

The colour commentary gave the match a boost. Taz looked good out there.

Not a good go home show before our biggest show to date. Let's hope these guys turn it around.

Bam Bam Bigelow borded a plane today to head to Japan to wrestle for NJPW. Bam Bam was scheduled to fight Sandman for the ECW World Title but in an apparent disagreement over the outcome of the match, Bam Bam picked up his ball and went home. The entire backstage area is reeling as this was a highly anticipated match. The entire show is currently being re-written.
