TEW: Extreme Championship Wrestling 1997: The House of Hardcore -- FOFC Interactive

The landscape of wrestling in 1997 was about to change the face of the industry. Bret Hart was just screwed by Vince McMahon, the nWo was in the middle of a mega hot run and in a little Bingo Hall in Philadelphia people were being wrapped in barbed wire and put through tables set ablaze.

As talent scouts searched high and low for talent, Paul Heyman started his ECW House of Hardcore. It didn't promise fame and glory, but it did promise blood and tears in exchange for the opportunity to headline WrestleMania or Starrcade or even November to Remember.

The application for the House of Hardcore was printed in Pro Wrestling Illustrated and is as follows:

Name (Wrestler Name)
Birthday (Month/Year)
Nationality:
Based In: (USA, Canada, Mexico, Europe, UK, Japan)
Active In: (Where can he wrestle, pick any or all of the above)
Main Area Of Competiton: (Where he will wrestle most starting out, ie Tri-City, Southwest, Southeast, etc)
Wrestling Style:
Size:
Personality:
Attitude:
Face Gimmick:
Heel Gimmick:
Language Skills (Can be fluent in up to three)

Main Finisher: (Name .. Pinfall/Submission)
Other Finisher: (Name .. Pinfall/Submission)

Describe the type of wrestler you envision to be (Comparsions to present wrestlers are helpful):

Biography: (A few lines about yourself)

I'll be running this using the Montreal Afterman Mod set in Dec 1997 as ECW. I will try and use guys created here but I won't automatically make them stars. As I chronicle my attempts to lead ECW to the top I'll do reports on your created guys.

Pre-Show Dark Match
Kid Kash defeated Mikey Whipwreck in 7:44 by pinfall with a Dead Level (C-)

Pre-Show Dark Match
Lance Storm and Justin Credible defeated Dudley Boys in 7:54 when Lance Storm defeated D-Von Dudley by submission with a Canadian Maple Leaf (D)

Shane Douglas hits the ring unannounced, displaying his ECW World Title triumphantly. He grabs the mic and in a shocking announcement, tells the world he is leaving ECW to head to New Jersey and he's taking this title he made with him! Tommy Dreamer hits the ring without music and says theres "No fucking way" he is leaving with this belt and tonight Dreamer is going to bring it back where it belongs! (C)

Taz defeated Jerry Lynn in 10:46 by pinfall with a T-Bone Suplex. Taz makes defence number 1 of his ECW World Television title (D)

In the back Tommy Dreamer is beyond incensed at the news of Douglas trying to leave ECW with the title. Dreamer tells everyone he'll die before letting that happen. (C+)

The Sandman defeated Axl Rotten in 8:58 by pinfall with a Flying Leg Drop (D+)

As Shane Douglas waits in the ring to start the Main Event, Tommy Dreamer is nowhere to be found. "Man in the Box" keeps playing but still no dreamer. Finally we cut to the back where Dreamer is a bloody mess on the ground trying to figure out what the hell happened to him (B-)

Tommy Dreamer drew with Shane Douglas in 19:26 when the referee lost control and stopped the match. Shane Douglas makes defence number 1 of his ECW World Heavyweight title (B-) The match was thrown out when Bam Bam Bigelow came out and attacked Dreamer. The Sandman hit the ring to even the odds, which brought out Sabu and Rob Van Dam. Finally, ECW Television Champion Taz came out and it became a 3 on 3 donnybrook as Shane Douglas escapes to the back with his ECW Title as the show ends (B+)

Show Rating: C+

- Dreamer was show MVP for sure. The convoluted finish was set up for something down the line potentially involving a return of the Franchise.

- A 3 on 3 match is set for next week as Dreamer, Taz and Sandman will take on RVD, Sabu and Bigelow.

Pre-Show Dark Match
Doug Williams defeated Mikey Whipwreck in 7:32 by pinfall with a Revolution DDT (D+)

Pre-Show Dark Match
John Kronus defeated Ace Steel in 8:24 by pinfall with a 450 Splash (E+)

Justin Credible defeated Axl Rotten in 8:32 by pinfall with a Superkick (D)

Rob Van Dam, Sabu and Bam Bam Bigelow defeated Tommy Dreamer, The Sandman and Taz in 17:15 when Bam Bam Bigelow defeated Tommy Dreamer by pinfall with a Power Bomb through a table (C+)

Paul Heyman comes out from behind the announce desk with the mic. Because Shane Douglas decided to F over ECW he has no choice but to vacate the ECW Title and put it up on the line in a Fatal Four Way at Holiday Hell. Because of his win tonight, Bam Bam Bigelow is the first participant in the match. The other three will be determined next week in qualifying matches where the winners get a shot at the title. (C+)

Wrestling Style:
Size: Heavyweight (6'6)
Personality: Leader
Attitude: Focused
Face Gimmick: Honorable against faces, but will fight fire with fire against heels (not necessarily cheating, but will dig deeper into the hardcore avenue of wrestling in these situations, using chairs/tables/etc).
Heel Gimmick: None
Language Skills: English, Russian, Japanese

Main Finisher: Deathgrip (combo Sharpshooter/Camel Clutch) - Submission
Other Finisher: Deathdrop (reverse DDT from the top rope) - Pin

Describe the type of wrestler you envision to be (Comparsions to present wrestlers are helpful): Sting meets Bret Hart, but bigger. A big man who relies mostly on technique and leverage, trying to maximize his power through proper form.

Biography: Starting in the Hart dungeon, TH has woven his way through the wrestling ranks on both sides of the ocean since he was 18. Unshakeable faith in himself and his abilities allows him to step up to any challenge, but also rarely allows him to walk away. Has yet to turn heel in his already lengthy career and while he may be semi predictable, sometimes that's more a deterrant than a weakness.

Pre-show Dark Match
Ace Steel defeated The Blue Meanie in 7:40 by pinfall with a Twist of Cain (D-)

Paul Heyman comes to the ring with an aggitated look on his face. Ripping the mic away from Gary Coppetta he goes into a typical Paul tirade. Dudley Boys defeated Tracy Smothers and Little Guido in 2:35 when Bubba Ray Dudley defeated Tracy Smothers by pinfall with a Power Bomb. Dudley Boys win the ECW World Tag Team titles (D) Little Guido was leaving tomorrow unbeknownst to me so I had to drop the titles before he left, he wouldn't have made the show.

Juventud Guerrera defeated Rob Van Dam and Sabu in 12:23 when Juventud Guerrera defeated Sabu by pinfall with a Dragon Suplex (C-) Juvy leaves the ring to a chorus of boos leaving Sabu and RVD to wonder what happened. ECW News

- We send John Kronus to FMW for a show in exchange for Will Bentley just to see what he can potentially offer down the road.

- Taz has signed with WWF on a PPA basis meaning we're going to be hurting down the line when his deal is up.

- Not much talent is out there right now that no one has hired yet so we're going to make due and just see what happens.

ECW News

- We head into February in a rut. It's hard to book with these guys I have on roster but we have to forge on.

- Starting every Wednesday we present ECW Extreme OD, a weekly house show that will be used to work on getting our prestige up in other territories while also serving our young guys a shot to get extended match time.

- We put out feelers for a new show to numerous small and very small outlets, as well as a few medium sized ones. We aren't holding our breath though.

You're telling me .. This is the most frustrating game I've played because I don't have the performers who can go out there and put on a good match on skill alone on a consistent basis. When Candido/RVD does nothing it's aganoy.

Tinker your promotion's product to cater to your roster's strengths.

Remember that match grade reflects more than quality.

If you have a small promotion, and you're running a show in a place where neither the company, nor the workers have much popularity, you're going to get a low rating, regardless of how much talent is in the match.

This varies on your promotion setting, but I'm guessing ECW has a pretty high "sports entertainment" rating (which means popularity is as important, or more important, than in-ring talent).

A D- show rating isn't necessarily a bad thing if your popularity in the region is an F. It's pretty much impossible to deliver A/B shows in a region where your popualrity is that low.

So focus on improving your popularity in your key regions, rather than trying to get any particular grade.

Yeah I know that. Sadly we have a C rating in Tri City and a D + In New England. We just don't have great workers. I'll figure it out but it's tough.

Maybe this is a gift but when clearing out old saves I cleared out this one by mistake (My fault for naming the game ECFNW and another one ECFNDUB) so I'm restarting. All the guys are officially in the game who posted above.
