The All-Time Champions League: A Second and Ten Dynasty

Next month will see the 42nd Superbowl ever played. And there's always discussions. How the classic Packers team would do against the teams of today. Could the Steel Curtain stifle the Greatest Show on Turf? And most importantly, the eternal question, what was the best team ever? This dynasty will attempt to answer that question:

The breakdown: 31 of the 41 Super Bowl Champions of the Past, along with Super Bowl XLII favorites, the 2007 New England Patriots were seeded by conference. The rule was if a team won two championships in a row, the first team in would get the spot in the Championship Tournament.

Here's the Breakdown:

First, for the AFC:

Early Division
1968 New York Jets - Joe Willie Namath and the famous guarantee.
1972 Miami Dolphins - The first ever undefeated season.
1974 Pittsburgh Steelers - The advent of the Steel Curtain
1976 Oakland Raiders - Ken "The Snake" Stabler finally broke through the Curtain
1978 Pittsburgh Steelers - Revenge of Steeltown
1980 Oakland Raiders - Jim Plunkett comes out of nowhere to lead the team.
1983 Los Angeles Raiders - The Last AFC team to win a super bowl for a decade and a half.
1997 Denver Broncos - Finally, Elway broke through and won the big one.

Later Division
2000 Baltimore Ravens - Defense, the name of the game
2001 New England Patriots - The one time where everyone was rooting for the Pats.
2003 New England Patriots 2nd time around for New England, against the Panthers
2005 Pittsburgh Steelers - Cowherd's Comeback Kids
2006 Indianapolis Colts - Finally, Peyton breaks through
2007 New England Patriots - Record Setting offense, can they make their way in for real?
1970 Kansas City Chiefs - the final NFL/AFL Championship Game Championship
1971 Baltimore Colts - The first combined Super Bowl Champions

Game 1: 72 Miami at 68 New York (Shea Stadium)

The Miami Dolphins of 1972 were perfect over 17 games. It only took one Champions League game to add a 1 to the loss column. Joe Namath threw for 267 yards, and the Jets rushing attack ran for 213 yards, and the Jets won the Champions League Opener, 31-10. The game was 17-10 with six minutes to play, but the Jets took advantage of the Dolphins defense to score again, and a fumbled snap gave the Jets the ball deep in Dolphinst territory for the final score.
