I'm getting ready to import.. thinking I'll do it right before the playoffs this time since there is a new fancy schmancy playoffs screen now.

I just ran the draft for my v13 league, you know, the one that resets the order to alphabetical or random other than actually having the correct order. I'm sure it's a feature though.

Like I said before - I will most likely buy it eventually, but......it just doesn't excite me anymore.

Just fooling around with it now. Haven't really decided what I want to do yet. I wish there was a quickstart with college and high-school feeders already set up (with logos and all). That is what I really want to do, but I'm just not in the mood to fight with the set-up.

I will import my long-running league with 200+ years of history into OOTP14 when I get home. Or maybe I already did it during beta and just need to save it to the web? Either way, will release this evening.

Imported my league from v13 (started with v11) with 6 games left in the regular season.
Went well, had to import my ballparks and then they showed up fine. Went into all teams and added the cool ballpark picks that are now shown in the webcast view. I love the expanded webcast screen as you watch all the games too! Facegen looks really life like now. I like the new increased font options. The playoff screen is FANTASTIC!!! Haven't been able to check out the new international free agent addition yet. I'm sure there are many things I have yet to discover. |

Decided to check out the team picture option, pretty neat. There are 26 players because I'm in late September. Your 2026 St. Louis Cardinals!

Debating whether to go into universe creation mode. I came up with a pretty good one last year. Inevitably I spend a month putting together and testing complex universes. No leagues in Swaziland but I do like to come up with some elaborate universes somewhat based in reality.
I wish the game would ship with more ready to go quickstarts. |

I'm doing a fictional/historical run, using the Harrisburg-area Twilight League as a model. And I've had a West Shore team (Cumberland Valley) win the last five league titles (including the last three City Championships), 12 of the last 17, and 23 of the last 30. They won every year from 1983-93, then 1997-2003, then 2009-13. They had a terrific rivalry with neighbor Mechanicsburg, who won four of five from 2004-08.
Oh, and CV won from 1973-77. They've managed to stay forward-thinking and get franchise players consistently. It's been stunning to watch. And now I have just watched my own borough team (Camp Hill) win their first league title since 1950 (it's now 2014) after being tied going into the final week of the season, and being in a five-way fight for the title at the end of August. Their chances don't look good against Middletown and Ty Holland (19-4, 154 H, 165 K in 218 IP), but perhaps there's some magic left. I love this game. |

In again like every year. Still the best "bang for the buck" game I've every bought. Imported my league started in v4 (2002) and will continue on. Played every inning of every game over 24 seasons.

Loving the new features in version 14 - the playoff screen for me was so much needed and is so great for adding to the playability of a league.

In year four of the MLB quickstart, It takes about 2 minutes to get offers for a player. I can usually only play about 5 seasons of any OOTP game before it slows down fairly well

Started a new 2013 game and moved the Astro's to Salt Lake and took over the team.
Holy shit do I have my work cut out for me. Picked up Anthony Rizzo in a trade to add some pop to the lineup and he has responded with a .111 average, 1 HR and 4 RBI through 12 games as we sit 4-8. It will be a long rebuilding process. On the bright side also picked up Cole Gillespie .435-0-4 for a prospect and just added Craig Gentry from Texas in another trade, so the outfield is stronger. Of the holdovers Bud Norris is 2-0 3.15 after 3 starts and is definitely our ace. One feature I love is the pitch count limit you can assign to pitchers. I signed Roy Oswalt as a FA and in his first and only start so far he was nails through 7, giving up 4 hits and 1 run. The manger let him go out for the 8th and the wheels came off as he was charged with 4 runs and took the loss, so he immediately went on a 100 pitch per outing limit. Also cool seeing some legacy players in the farm system as I have Delino DeShields Jr. and Lance McCullers Jr. in double A and single A respectively right now. |

is ootp14 more like FOF or FM or something totally different?

In-between. Visually far and away better than FOF, but not as slow or immersive as FM. No 3D representation as others have already mentioned. Best way to get a sense of it, is to download the demo and check it out for yourself because so many of us play wildly different than the others and you might get a variety of different answers. But it's not really like either of those games. It has elements of the deepness of FM and unlike FOF, it's updated every year. Still, there are things that if anyone has spent time with it for a long time will know about it and expect to be broken. Still it's worth it if you like baseball. Best way to tell is to fire it up, thoug. |

I think in OOTP's attempt to be like FM, they failed. They should stick to their own style and not worry so much about immersion. I do miss the having kids and seeing them make the ML too

Much deeper than FOF and I haven't played enough FM to really compare the two. Definitely my favorite text sim though, for me it's really immersive and since v11, it just keeps getting better. I do believe there will be some sort of graphical representation of some sort in v15, although I'm not sure as to what extent. |

Just ran a 42 year sim of OOTP historical random debut (that is, players from all eras, but naturalized to the stats of the time frame) from 1901-1943.
Some random things: Ed Delahanty is the hit king, with 3,835 hits, and hit .400 in a season three times (.423 in 1925, .435(!!!) in 1927, and .413 in 1930. He came so very close three more times, .399 in 1926, .391 in 1931, and .390 in 1938).. Still playing, but 1943 is likely his last year, as he only had 87 AB at age 38) The Big Hurt, Frank Thomas holds the single season record for homers with 42, and age 31, should get the 70 or so homers he needs to surpass the legendary King Kelly (who caused a rule change when he substituted himself into the game during the middle of a play to make a catch in real life) with 389. The 40 year old Kelly is still playing, however, so who knows if Kelly will reach 400. Catfish Hunter, who started in 1901, has the hard luck season, setting a record for losses by a pitcher in 1908, where he went 12-30 with a 3.03 ERA (which is not as good as it looks, remember, dead ball era) Modern Day Players who've already had their career come and go, and ended up in the hall of fame: Batters JD Drew Andres Galarraga Fred McGriff Paul Molitor Joe Torre Ryan Zimmerman Pitchers Pedro Astacio Boof Bosner (!!!) Bob Feller Lefty Gomez Carl Hubbell Scott Kazmir (!!!) Mike Krukow Andy Messermith Rube Waddell Kerry Wood (it's easier with all the pitching they do to get the stats required for HOF Induction)

When is the demo typically released? I would like to give it a try to see if I "need" to buy this version since I have OOTP13.

Posting in case someone else runs into the same problem I had trying to register the game. The moment I would hit okay after entering my serial number the game would crash. Turns out the issue for me on Windows 7 is DEP (Data Execution Prevention). I had to add OOTP 14 as an exception and everything is working fine.

I've ran a similar sim with random debut. I made it to 2009, Here are the top 10 single season HR leaders Rank Player HR YEAR 1 Babe Ruth* 86 1970 2 Jose Canseco# 85 2005 3 Mark McGwire* 83 1962 4 Matt D Williams# 82 2000 5 Eddie Murray# 74 2004 6 Barry Bonds# 72 1997 7 Jason D Thompson# 71 2006 8 Cory Snyder# 69 2001 9 Barry Bonds# 68 1995 9 Lee May 68 1996 9 Bob Horner 68 1987 9 Mark McGwire* 68 1965 That 1970 season Ruth was playing in Houston, Canseco was playing in Washington when he made a run at the record, McGwire set the record playing in Cincinnati, and Matt Williams hit 82 playing in Florida. McGwire is your career leader with only 1006 HR and Bonds trailed him with 930 and is still playing at the age of 42. Stargell, Reggie Jackson and Ruth round out the top 5 with 793, 786, and 763 HR.

Good grief, why not get the player's DNA makeup as well? Isn't that way too much information on a player for a text sim? I mean, I remember having to judge a player solely based on a few reduced ratings and his on-field performance. |
