Landry Crowned CL Top Rookie
Tuesday, October 31st, 2209
Michel Landry, third baseman for the Brooklyn Brownstones, has been honored with the Benny Myers Rookie of the Year Award in the Continental League.

He batted .317 for the Brooklyn Brownstones and racked up 195 hits, 14 home runs, 69 RBIs and 79 runs scored to capture the award.


Carson Is RL's Top Rookie

This year's outstanding rookie has been chosen and the honor goes to Tokyo catcher Paul Carson. He received the 2209 Republic League Benny Myers Rookie of the Year Award for his consistent play and solid numbers.

He finished the regular season with a .280 batting average, 29 doubles, 4 triples and 23 home runs. The 23-year-old Carson also had 85 RBIs and scored 78 times.

2209 CL Gabriel Prado Award Chosen

The Gabriel Prado Award for 2209 has been presented and the Continental League winner is Samuel Bujold of Apex.

"It's always nice to receive an award like this," said Bujold. "I just hope I can improve on my performance next year and be in the running again," the Assassins star told reporters.

Bujold excelled with an impressive 17-10 record in 32 starts. In 239 innings he yielded 183 hits and 42 walks, while striking out 207 and compiling a fine 2.22 ERA.


Top Pitcher Trophy Won by Indians Kipkoech

In the twilight of his career, Mubale Kipkoech has no intention of going anywhere anytime soon. The 36-year-old Indians starter hoisted up the Republic League Gabriel Prado Award earlier today, silencing critics who thought it was time for the "old man" to retire.

Kipkoech crafted an ERA of 2.55 as he won 17 games, dropped 12, fanned 159 and gave up 64 walks in 243.1 innings of work.

Bruce Dickson Nabs Best Bat Trophy

Bruce Dickson went on a year-long hitting rampage against Continental League pitchers and collected the Hideaki Tanaka Award for 2209.

The Noblesville left fielder battered the opposition for 218 hits, 36 doubles, 3 triples, 23 home runs and 96 RBIs, while scoring 105 runs. He hit .361 and posted a .414 on-base percentage.

Alfonso Vélez of the Hartford Riverhawks proved that you can step out of the shadows and onto the stage if you've got the talent and the drive to hone your skills. Hard work, long hours and a tireless resolve paid off for him today in the form of the Republic League Hideaki Tanaka Award.

Vélez hit for a .318 average while collecting 199 hits, 42 doubles, 10 triples, 5 home runs, 66 RBIs and scoring 87 times.

It's a tough way to go, I know. Especially since you usually have to lose pretty bad for a year or two to get the top end young pitching talent in your system. And that's also hoping they pan out (for me, they often don't).
