Ok, watching these reports roll in is more exciting than it has any right to be.

Just wait for Friday night when the entire regular season is done in one night and you watch your team right on the edge of winning before it all slips away while you sit there knowing there is nothing you can do but watch it all go down in flames... that is where the real fun is!

He was going to be the one piece I was going to go after. I had a lot of cap space, with my financials set for a few years.

Instead I changed my mind and tried to land 4 lesser pieces.

Good Gawd. That's a lotta money.

What's the highest someone has been paid so far for a year in FOOL? Anyone know?

Miyahara woulda gotten $16 M this past season if I let him (I didn't).

Spindola went for a bit more than I thought he would. Hope that doesn't bode ill for my other offers.

For the record I hated Steve Sax... I still do... and Pedro Guerrero and Steve Garvey.....

Jay Johnstone was ok though because he was funny.

I do. But I did find it funny that as soon as I read your post, my mind immediately flashes to Knoblauch and Sax. And they were both second basemen, too.

Well, he probably got over a million per year on name recognition alone (man, how the mighty have fallen).

When you're in second place for a few years, and the team that plays just over 200 miles south of you semi falling apart, you have to make a move.

Heh...right backatya. Could not stand Templeton or Maddux or Justice or any of those early Braves guys.

Loved the Murphy-Horner Braves, though.

I have both Yamazaki and Lang for 17.5 million a season.

On another note I think it would have been hilarious if Higman got that contract as it would have meant that this years 3 highest paid players all played for Brooklyn last year.

I paid SP Benny Myers 17 mil for like 6 years and he was the highest paid for his contract... Lotta good that did me

I'm assuming you mean Pendleton instead of Gary Templeton (former Card and Padres SS). I didn't mind the Justice, Ron Gant, Glavine, etc Braves as it was an end to endless suffering for me as an Atlanta fan (not only Braves fan, but Braves, Falcons, Hawks) finally seeing a team actually with a chance to win...

But My number in Softball to this day is still #3 which is what Dale Murphy wore. My all time two favorite baseball players are Murphy and Brett Butler (which to this day is the only time I have ever cried because of baseball was the day Butler was traded from the Braves.. I believe I was 7 years old then).

Also it looks like CF Sanchez of TEX is due to make 19.425 million his final year, but he has no incentives. Where as Yamazaki could theoretically make $25 million with incentives in his highest year.

Yup, Pendleton, good catch. Templeton was okay.

I was cool with Gant. Liked his story. I actually did not like Brett Butler at all until he joined the Dodgers. Then seeing him every day made me appreciate him more. He became a guy I liked quite abit.

Of course, this is all from the Dodgers are a distant #2 for me. You think I dislike the early 90s Braves, imagine how I feel about the Bash Brother A's or the ARod-Griffey-Unit M's.

Murphy always struck me as a class guy. As one of the premier celebrity athlete Mormons out there (and devoutly so), Murphy is a little more visible for my family since my brother converted to LDS ten years ago. He (my bro) actually missioned in Boston, hung out with Murph and caught a game with him at Fenway. How about that, eh? Good stuff.

I still feel like Murphy deserves to be in the Hall, even though I know the numbers don't really support it.

I think you should trade him to DC for a 4th rounder.

5 - 2 (Higman, Lopez)
4 - 3 (Mendoza, Zijm, Withecombe)
3 - 6
2 1/2 - 10
2 - 17

Has Garcia come down from his lofty expectations yet?

Of course, since Bath got his money, it wouldn't surprise me to see Garcia get his.

Speaking of those Pirates, I always really liked Van Slyke. I was never a fan of his outfield mates, but Van Slyke rocked.

Wow what is interesting is it looks like NO ONE offered Higman a contract. Unless he has not received any yet.

No way, really? That's insane. So everyone was scared away by the expected competition? I find it hard to believe even the AI teams didn't offer him something.

This is going to test muns' willpower big time.

On another note I call shenanigans! It appears Yamazaki is being tampered with. Apparently 3 AI teams offered him a contract. Good thing I have him tied down to such a low rate as one of his emails suggest.

He was my favoite player. Always showed up and played hard. Everyone in Pittsburgh loved the guy. He just looked tough with that big chew he always had in.... Was sad to see him go to St.Louis when he did

I wasn't scared away by others, but it was more of a case of me needing 5-7 different guys and if I went after him, I would be left with way too many holes in my team.

Obviously he would improve any team he joined, but I had other more pressing needs.
