I know my name isn't DC.. but I did give the correct answer just for the record I'll even tell you who it is if you want! Kade Pruitt in Savannah for some reason has a contract value of 190k for 1 year that is counting on some reports. I'm not sure what this guy's history is as his entire history is blank for me and his personal contract screen is showing as minor league.. but he is the one throwing the values off if you are wondering. |

I think that was the same spring training record I had last year. I guess 11-13 is ok when I don't use most of my starting pitchers.

Wasn't the draft tonight? Or just no draft coverage? |

Sorry. The US Open and watching John McCain distracted me. FOOL.TV failed to cover the draft, citing poor ratings. You can see your draft from this year by going to History ---> choose your team's three letter abbreviation --> then click on "Draft History" and you'll see your 1974 picks. Sorry 'bout that. I'm still bitter about New Orleans eating into my regional profits. Back to Texas with them! |

For Hartford, New Orleans and Boston..that's file is up with the trades you made and those players on your squad.

Oops. Crap! I set up my draft order, but forgot to do an ST lineup tonight.
Ah well. Looks like I did OK regardless! Now to see how smart the AI was about using my boys. |

It will base things on whatever is left of your lineup from the previous year and then fill in the gaps. It will then apply spring training logic to the mix (such as pitchers going in smaller stints, players in the field playing less of the game, etc). I actually don't find that much difference between letting the AI run with spring training and you doing it in some cases. Really the main things that myself or other owners sometimes try to do is swap around the pitching rotation to make sure that young guys that you aren't sure of yet get more opportunities (or sure opportunities) to pitch, as well as in the lineup making sure that those fighting for roster spots get the chances to start the games. In the end, the AI still tends to use almost everyone, but you can shape which ones get the most starts or most innings or most At bats to try to have more information to base decisions on. (For instance, I rarely ever have my top 3 or 4 starting pitchers even listed anywhere at all, yet I bet without looking that each of them saw at least a few innings and a game or 5 during the spring anyways.) |

I use ST as a chance to get players who I want to play in a new position some experience in that position. Besides that, I use it to test out pitchers in unorthodox spots to see who those 23-25th guys on the roster ought to be in depth positions.
When I'm running a fixer upper team, I use ST as a chance to see how my team might be in the season and tinker a bit based on that.

Aye, Alan, it seems to have gone through my roster fairly well. I'll probably have enough information to make my season decisions.
That said... there's something a little off in this file. I seem to have mail from a number of other teams in my own inbox, and I'm missing some of my own -- no response to a contract offer, for instance... anyone else seeing this? Last edited by kaosfere : 09-04-2008 at 10:38 PM. |

Just a ping to let you know I'm still here. I'm still absorbing a lot of info and trying to get things going the way I want them/the way they need to be for this team. Hopefully next season I'll be a bit more chatty ;- )

It's cool. We figure you'll be talking in two days once the Rancheros are running away with the league again or something.

So ace of my staff SP John MacDonald decide he now only knows how to throw 2 pitches and had an ERA over 8 for ST. We'll have to see how that plays out over the season, but I'm definitely worried now...

I know my name isn't DC.. but I did give the correct answer just for the record I'm not sure what you mean, but thx for the info anyways. Maybe you're talking about the budget thing, b/c this is the 1st time I asked about the 190k diff. by Alan T It allows you to spend up to your cap. We had issues before where a teams budget was 57 million so your team could only spend 57 million instead of 65. You did tell me this, but I did not know how else my budget cloud be useful,... to pay off dead weight to pick up fresh blood. I still have lots to learn. This game has way too many nuts & bolts to fig it all out in just a few weeks of play, which is why I like it. later
