1976 Off-season Thread (Opening Day File is up!)
Post-Classic file is up.
Exports will take place tonight as usual, just no Classic to be run. I'll be on the road most of the evening. So you'll export if you have players to re-sign or to release or any other business. I'll process the file once I get in, probably before midnight...I hope. I dunno yet. Quote:

DC,
I have to preface this by saying I am not trying to start drama. By simming the Classic early, you have progressed to the offseason now. Any teams that didn't export but had intended to release players now must incur those expenses next year. So going in tomorrow night and zeroing out expenses for next year is probably the best solution. I also thought that if you ran the Classic early you would only take exports from those teams participating. Last edited by graygoose12 : 09-14-2008 at 07:58 AM. |

I don't understand. I want to cut a player too, but I don't see why doing it tonight or last night would have made a difference to the 76 budget?? As long as it's done b4 FA, the players still get a shot at a contract for 76??

That is not true. If you look in the upper corner of the game, it should say: Saturday 9-27-1975 Selected League: FOOL Offseason Also if you go into your Front Office, and then Finances, in the middle column you will see that current year revenue and player expenses are zeroed out (minus merchandising revenue). Any player you cut now, his remaining salary (from 1976 to the end, less any option years) will count against your 1976 player expenses. That is why you need to release all players you don't want prior to the offseason (usually the export you send for Sunday night's sim-which has been affected by the early Classic sim) DC has sad that if you release players with tonight's sim, he will zero out the player expenses, essentially meaning that you released them prior to getting to the "offseason" stage. Also if you were to make the Classic, you would not be able to release players like everybody else would (unless you want to hurt your chances in the Classic). Because of this DC said that if this happens, and you want to release players prior to the offseason, let him know and he will also zero out the player expenses for the coming year. Does that make sense? |

The only reason it's an issue, is because if a team goes into the red, it could be a problem. Given it's never happened and it'd take an act of really reckless spend and release to do it, I don't imagine we'll ever see it. But...still good to enforce the rules.
I will zero out expenses for teams that release people. It's no big deal and I've done it in past years when we run into these problems. I'm getting ready to hit the road shortly anyway... |

I made a boo-boo, so if I don't export tonight I can just wait to early morning on Mon & import the new file, which should let me resign my guys b4 I leave for NYC, correct? I'll just have to be sure to export b4 I go.

I cut someone thinking that will free up $$ for resignings but it just gave me more $$ for FA's....Why does it not give us more $$ for extentions as well??

Does that player have a contract for 1976? If they don't then you are not going to save any money for extensions. |

Since Tasan couldn't export, I tried to do what I could for him over there. Victor Gonzalez decided he didn't want to resign with Colorado and wants to test the market. Besides that, I tried to make rational moves the best I could, but they're really pressed hard against the cap over there.
Getting the exports now. |

Hey guys, I'm without power at my house (remnants of Ike coming through Ohio), so I don't know how soon that I'll be able to get back at this. I'm at work right now, but I don't have the game here.
DC, is there a chance that you could look at my team and see if any of my good young minor league prospects are becoming FA's. If so, can you offer any of them that have a potential greater than 1 star whatever they demand. Those are the ones I'm worried about losing the most. I'll let everyone know when the power is restored and I can resume. Thanks! |

The FOOL Digest ~ October 7, 1975 ~ Vol. 1, Issue 1
BREAKING NEWS!!! JOEY HIGMAN TO TORONTO In a deal that we're still getting information about, the Toronto Osprey, defending Continental League champions have dealt for hard-hitting English infielder Joey Higman from Baltimore for three players. "He's a pretty, pretty penny, but I'm trying hard to make '76 an explosive year. He should have a key role in that," said Toronto GM kaosfere. Higman, 26, hit .291 with 22 HRs and 60 RBI in the anemic CL last year and should be a huge boon to the 2nd worst offense in the league last year in Toronto. Higman can play four infield positions, giving him added value, despite a contract with two years left on it that's due another $27 million. We'll have more about this trade once we get information into the FOOL News Desk. CHICAGO CLAIMS THE CLASSIC! In a swift six games, the Chicago Thunderstorms in the Quad Cities, claimed the first FOOL Classic title in their franchise history, capping a historic turnaround from boobs to champions. "It's astounding. I just don't have the words for what I feel right now," said owner and GM Dark Cloud, after his team captured the decisive Game 6 on the road at Atlantic Gardens in Toronto. When DC took over after the 1969 season, the team had just posted the worst season in FOOL history at 38-116. In fact, the Chicago franchise holds the record for worst seasons in FOOL history in '68 and then beat their own record during that '69 season. DC came in fresh building a league championship squad in Compton before falling out with ownership there and cobbled together his own resources to buy the moribund franchise in the Windy City. After moving the club three hours west to the Quad Cities, an area straddled along the Mississippi River -- much like a team he ran years earlier in St. Louis -- he embarked on a path to revitalize the team. His first season -- 1970 -- the team posted a 29-win improvement. In '71, the team finished just 5 games out of first, a tie for third in '72 and sole possession of it in '73 were the precursor to last season's RL championship victory before being dispatched in six games by the Valdosta Peanuts. But this time, it was the T-Storms who were victorious, bearing the name of the city that they wore when they were losers who few loved. "We just felt that if we were going to win it, we had to win it for Chicago and the Quad Cities. This is a title for the entire midwest," said pitcher Pete McKeane, who was on Dark Cloud's St. Louis Terriers FOOL Classic title teams in 1963 and 1964. Also along for the ride from that team was Benny Myers, one of two major free agents acquired during the '75 off-season. "We knew we needed veteran leadership and so, I was ecstatic to get those guys here," said D.C. Is a repeat in the cards for the T-Storms? Dark Cloud said after waiting 11 years for his third FOOL Classic title, that "we're not planning to give up. Our core is young, but the rest of the RL has it within their target. We intend to dodge it for as long as possible." BOSTON MOVES TO LONG ISLAND After spending their entire FOOL existence in the city of Boston, the Settlers have packed up and headed south. The Boston Settlers were sold to a New York investment group and will become the Long Island Violators in 1976. With a strong core that lost a tough 5-game playoff for the RL title in '73, the Violators with the right moves could easily be a factor in the Republic League this year. Said one GM who wished to be remain anonymous, "I think that team is gonna shock the world. They've got the right talent and a core that I'd swap my team for in a minute. I'm excited about what the new folks in there can do with them." |

I have NO idea how the files keep getting bigger and bigger. But they're now over 100MB. I have no idea WTF the game is doing, but I'll investigate, because it shouldn't be that big. At all.
I hate OOTP. So that's the reason for the slowsies tonight. Not that anyone is posting around here anyway.

Still having problems getting the game to cut the file size down. I have NO idea wtf happened. But it's driving me nuts.
I've created a .zip file that contains the newest .dat files, so you can at least update manually. Dump the contents of this zip file into your FOOL.lg folder and copy over the existing files and you'll be updated until I can figure out WTF German Engineering has caused us this time. That zip works for me (no reports or anything, of course, but at least I can adjust lineups). Need to head to bed... not been feeling well and the Nyquil's kicking in. Good luck getting the rest sorted.
