As usual, I will not be around for most of Monday, until quite a bit past deadline. So if you want to contact me about block or anything else, I apologize but I won't be able to get back to you until late Monday. Please just PM me, and I will respond when I can. Thanks!

Was meaning to do it this past weekend, but got busy with other things. I should have it updated by the start of '81.

Just a reminder, I'm running the sims starting tonight. If you have any questions or problems that need attention, please drop me a note. Otherwise the majority of things such as sim deadlines and such should continue as normal. (The one exception might be Sunday nights where I need 1 hour later, but I will figure that out this week).

The most important thing for everyone to remember is the upcoming changes in the league's financial model. Teams looking to get rid of extremely bad contracts probably should have done so last night. If for some reason you were unaware of that or completely missed the upcoming financial changes, you probably want to look at that thread before this season.

If for some reason you have a case where you have a team financial issue due to missing the upcoming changes, please let me know via PM by tonight before the sim to see if there is anything that can be done.

damn, i traded Manny Lopez. i probably coulda had back to back Pitcher of the Years. moved to a hitter's park so i felt it'd be better to aquire stud hitters than keep what was then an average young SP. hope he doesn't win too many more awards.

Wednesday, October 24th, 1979: FOOL News: Free Agents File
As midnight approached last night, would-be free agents across Front Office Offseason League lined up to formally file their papers, officially putting themselves on the open market.

General managers across the league enter the fray today with different approaches -- mortgage the franchise to snap up the stars or simply maintain the status quo?

Headlining the list of names filing for free agency are these players:

1. Walter Little, 28 year-old first baseman
2. Alan Poole, 27 year-old center fielder
3. Raúl Ramos, 37 year-old starting pitcher
4. Gustavo Betancourt, 32 year-old starting pitcher
5. Floyd Yarbrough, 37 year-old starting pitcher
6. Cal Austin, 37 year-old starting pitcher
7. Joe Morris, 38 year-old reliever
8. Pedro Silva, 26 year-old reliever
9. Ryan Cook, 31 year-old starting pitcher
10. Martin Austin, 28 year-old reliever

Sorry for the delay. For some reason OOTP is giving me a problem where it is not letting me make a trade unless I control a team.. I'll work around this and figure out why this is acting broken after the sim is complete.

If you sign a player before the offseason starts, the contract still counts for the present year and thus a 1 year contract is only for the present year. The player would then be re-released once free agency hit if you don't extend them.

In this case, I believe (I can't check since the game is in the process of packing up the file), it was the offseason and so the contract offered is for the next season, thus he should still be on NO's roster.

Ok, the file is uploading. This looks like it may take a while. I think I might spend some time tommorrow getting this set up on my desktop instead of work laptop so it should run faster

I'll let you know once the file is up.

I think he finally ended up giving up on the internal upload and using a standalone FTP client, Alan.

Might be your best bet.

Yeah, this is taking unearthly long. Killing it and uploading manually. Should be faster. Sorry for the wait. I'll get the hang of this by the end of this week. It's been a while since I have run online OOTP sims.

Hi there!

Just wanted to ask about getting the name and logos changed for Chicago...also, you can use my real name, Matt Clement as the manager.....Pike Smith, lol. nah thanks

Any of the available Black Sox logos is fine....and if it's something I do, let me know as I'm not entirely sure how it works!

Thanks!

I have some of these changed in the file I will be uploading. I'll give a list of updates once I get the file up. I have not done any requested logo changes however tonight. For the black sox logos, just drop me a PM with what you were wanting to use, or if you aren't very knowledgeable about how OOTP handles those, there are a few guys who can help probably get something put together for you. I'll work on the logo changes and such tommorrow before the sim so it does not make anyone wait any longer for the file tonight.

Ok, the file is up, sorry again for the wait. It is 20.58 MB.

I processed team files and trades.
Chicago was renamed to the Chicago Black Sox
Pike was named as manager of Chicago
Superhombre was named as manager of Wyoming.

I'll hang around a little while for people to download it. Please check to make sure it works ok for you. Want to make sure there are no issues with the various upload settings I used.

I did not have any issues just now in downloading the file, so it seems to be okay. Although I did have a handful of some other team's email messages (option decisions on players I don't have) in my inbox.

He shouldn't. Players signed after the classic have yearly figures starting in 1980 compared to 1979 before the classic. A team is limited to the amount of funds available for 1979, but the contract is for 1980.

Reminder of upcoming Rule/league changes:

At the end of this season, the new financial rules will be put into place. This will mean in a drastic drop in the amount of cash carried forward. Please take that into consideration when signing new contracts or contract extensions.

Next season, all non-FOOL (or FOOL minor league systems) leagues will be removed. This includes the VL, the College and Highschool leagues and the like. This will be done next season during the FOOL Classic sim, meaning that any players dumped from those leagues will be available for all teams (including FOOL Classic Participants) at that time, in case anyone wants to plan on saving some money for anyone they like currently in one of those leagues. (There are roughly 8-10 or so ok looking prospect types down there which may be of interest to people, which is why I am giving an advance notice).

Ihad no trouble getting the file, except:

Alan, can you either dig back to the thread where DC talked about his email/archive/something settings or ask him about it? For the past 2 or 3 seasons, my email has been correct, and now its all jumbled up again. Guys I hadn't offered anything to telling me they signed when they are still free agents, and no updates from people I was in conversation with. I recall he set soemthing to 200 but I don't know what.

Thanks. ps not upset at you, I understand there is a transitional curve.

Thanks. ps not upset at you, I understand there is a transitional curve.

yeah, that was my fault. With a new commish account on a new computer means new league file settings. Most of the uploading issues I was having last night was having to do that as well.

I made the same changes to my own system that I originally suggested to DarkCloud previously and hope it fixes the issue for us. Let me know if it doesn't however.

The sim might run a bit late, am still on a conference call for work. It has been a rather lousy day. Just wanted to give a warning.

Ok, if anyone needs any extra time tonight, say so. I'm going to try to get the sim started on time, even though it may take a bit longer than normal due to work.

Shirk work is my motto! Except not anymore, because of hte financial crisis and layoff worries and stuff.

I used to be able to run 20 player tournaments for this online card game I played and game mastered for, during work. I had a whole excel sheet that did swiss style pairings and everything. Now, I'm lucky if I can get headlines on Boston dot com without the net nanny kicking in and blocking content. Stupid rules! Fight the man, maaaaaaaaaan.

I work from home, so there is pretty good freedom regarding what I can do while at work.. but when something severe is broken, unfortunatly I have to fix it!
