Some things to watch for this season:

Will Luis Sowards find himself a team before opening day and get the 121 hits needed to become FOOL's first player with 4000 hits in his career?

Hector Romero only needs 44 runs scored to become the third player in FOOL history with 2000 runs scored.

Lawrence Carroll needs only 41 hits to become the third player in FOOL history with 3500 hits.

Bartolo Rodriguez only needs 5 wins to become a member of the 250 win club.

Juan Sierra is 180 strikeouts away from joining the 3500 Strikeout club.

Leon Lopez of Chico only needs to pitch in 38 games to become the 7th pitcher in FOOL history to appear in 1100 games. He is only 18 saves away from 2nd place all time in FOOL history (541 saves). The record is an amazing 734 saves by Denny Hennessey formerly of Hartford fame.

Yeah, kind of large oversight on my part there. Of course the Quero watch will be in full force!

I was going to make an offer for Sowards but I didn't think I could get him enough playing time to make 4000. If so, it would have been cool to have 2 monumental records in Tokyo's inaugural season.

Yea i was sad to see him go myself. There comes a time to where its time to cut ties with players and it was time for him. We had a nice run with him. The one thing I've learned from the FOOL setup is how much fun it is to watch players career play out over the long haul. I found myself sad that it was time for him to go.

Damn Chico Rebels are cheating losers and are $85k over the salary cap. Woops. One sec as I have to send one of their players down and then the season will start.

Wednesday, April 4th, 2029: Hernández Reaches 2000
By going 1-for-4 in the Edmonton 5-4 win over Napa Valley, Arturo Hernández reached the 2000-hit mark. The Edge Ballpark fans, friend and foe, burst into applause and Hernández's teammates hugged and congratulated him on his achievement.

"The guys began the countdown weeks ago," said the newest member of the 2000 Club. "I don't know who was more excited -- them or me."

Hernández has played in 1946 games with a .257 lifetime batting average. Among his 2000 hits are 537 doubles, 75 triples and 266 home runs. He also has scored 1117 runs and driven in 1099 runs.

With a huge grin on his face, the 34-year-old Rodríguez told reporters after the game, "Now I got to get real busy -- and start working on my next 250 wins."

Tuesday, May 1st, 2029: Rodríguez Takes RL #1 Pitcher Trophy
As Bartolo Rodríguez hoisted up the Republic League Pitcher of the Month trophy for April, rumors have already begun to swirl about whether he will leave Ann Arbor once his contract is up at the end of the season.

Rodríguez put pressure on the Winged Lingerines to keep him around by posting a 5-1 record and an ERA of 2.78 over 45.1 innings last month. He also rolled up 33 strikeouts, increasing his value both to Ann Arbor and to every other team in the league.

In April, Renaud Lemieux tore through the Continental League like a seasoned veteran -- quite impressive for a player only 24 years old.

The young Napa Valley starter posted a 4-1 mark and an ERA of 1.03 to earn the Pitcher of the Month award. In 52.1 innings he collected 53 strikeouts while limiting the opposition to a .185 average.

Tuesday, May 1st, 2029: RL Selects Rookie Star of the Month
Alejandro Castaneda was toddling around on his tricycle when some of the guys he's playing against were in their prime, but the 24-year-old first baseman definitely knows how to get to first, second or beyond. Today he was chosen April's Republic League Rookie of the Month for his remarkable month of hitting.

In 26 games Castaneda batted .374 for Ann Arbor, slapping 37 hits in 99 at-bats with 5 home runs, drove in 24 runs and scored 14 times.

Tuesday, May 1st, 2029: Continental League Names Rookie of Month
A boyish Mike Sherman emerged as the latest Continental League Rookie of the Month today. The young man from Baltimore deserved the honor, batting .260 with 1 home run and 7 RBI. Is the month of April a harbinger of things to come or just a fluke? We'll find out someday, but for now, we'll just let Sherman enjoy the limelight.

Ann Arbor's Linseman Gets 3000th Hit

The box score from yesterday's game will show that Ann Arborbeat the New York Heroes, 10-4. It will also show that shortstop Alec Linseman went 1-for-3 for the Winged Lingerines. It will not show, however, that Linseman reached the 3000-hit mark for his career.

The 41-year-old Linseman reflected on the achievement after the game. He mused: "In one respect, it's a real milestone, I guess. Yet, it's just a base hit like any other base hit."

Linseman has a lifetime .292 average with 3000 hits, 662 doubles, 63 triples, 131 home runs and 1064 RBIs to date.

Monday, May 14th, 2029: Hit Streak Over, Rancheros Stop Estrada
His 26-game hitting streak is over. Jesús Estrada failed to get a hit today against the Colorado Rancheros and had his consecutive-game hitting streak broken. The 26-year-old Winged Lingerines right fielder went 0-for-3 in his club's 2-0 victory over the Colorado at Ann Arbor Grounds.

In 41 games this year Estrada has posted a .412 average and put up these numbers: 2 home runs, 23 RBIs and 37 runs scored.

Friday, June 1st, 2029: Hooligans Starter Wins RL Pitching Award
Gilbert Edwards hasn't been around the big leagues long enough to know that youngsters shouldn't be winning Republic League Pitcher of the Month. But when you put up numbers like his, you're going to get some notice.

In May the Hammersmith starter earned a 5-1 mark in 7 starts. He threw 49.1 innings, struck out 33 and compiled a solid 2.92 ERA.

This season Edwards has compiled a 6-5 mark with a 3.84 ERA in 14 starts.

Friday, June 1st, 2029: Keyte Wins CL's Best Bat Trophy
Ben Keyte battered Continental League pitchers all May and wound up taking home the Batter of the Month Award.

"I've been around Front Office Offseason League long enough to know you really have to work hard day in and day out to be able to put up this kind of consistency," the 35-year-old Keyte told reporters. "I put in a lot of work, even on the days I may not take the field and it's always nice when everything comes together for me like it did this last month."

In 29 games, Keyte hit .383 with 10 home runs, 25 RBIs and scored 25 runs.

So far this season, Keyte has recorded a .373 batting average with 82 hits, 19 home runs, 49 RBIs, 44 runs scored and a .437 OBP.

Tuesday, June 19th, 2029: #300 for Durán
The New York Heroes had something to celebrate today even though they dropped a 9-8 decision to Ann Arbor. The reason -- the splendid slugger Gabriel Durán hit his 300th career homer in today's contest at New York Grounds.

"I'm fortunate to be here," Durán told the media after the game. "The Heroes have a classy organization and some great fans. Homer #300 was for them."

In his career Durán is batting .280 with a total of 301 home runs.

Napa Valley second baseman Sergio Luján put the wraps on a fine April by capturing the Continental League Batter of the Month honors today.

He put up a .345 batting average and .424 on-base percentage last month while racking up 10 home runs, 26 RBIs, 22 runs scored and 9 walks.

And Muns was confused when I didn't just hand him over.
