Thursday, July 1st, 2038: Rodríguez #1 RL Pitcher in June
When Marcos Rodríguez takes the hill, there's a good chance for a Hartford victory. At least that's the way it was in May.

He excelled with a 4-1 mark and a 2.33 ERA in 5 starts, tossed 38.2 innings, fanned 28, and held enemy hitters to a .252 average.

That's why the Harpooners star was honored today as the Pitcher of the Month by the Republic League.

In season stats Rodríguez shows a 7-6 record in 16 games, 107 innings, 68 strikeouts and a 3.95 ERA.

Thursday, July 1st, 2038: Barbosa Takes CL #1 Pitcher Trophy
Alejandro Barbosa was the anchor in the Baltimore bullpen last month and snatched up the Continental League Pitcher of the Month honors for June. The 31-year-old is in the prime of his career and pitching like he intends to stay around baseball for quite some time to come.

He threw 11.2 innings over 11 relief appearances and collected a 1-0 record with 6 strikeouts and 10 saves while etching his 0.77 ERA.

To date in 2038 in 27 relief appearances, Barbosa has recorded 19 saves while posting an ERA of 1.59 and 19 strikeouts in 28.1 innings pitched. His totals for the year also include 2 wins and 2 losses.

Thursday, July 1st, 2038: Premier Rookie Named by RL
A boyish Eiichi Watanabe emerged as the latest Republic League Rookie of the Month today. The young man from Hammersmith deserved the honor, batting .270 with 5 home runs and 14 runs batted in. Is the month of June a harbinger of things to come or just a fluke? We'll find out someday, but for now, we'll just let Watanabe enjoy the limelight.

In 2038 Watanabe is batting .272 with 13 home runs and 50 RBIs.

Thursday, July 1st, 2038: CL Rookie Star Shines
Whenever Cyclones left fielder John Hardwick stepped into the batter's box last month, the 26-year-old meant business. With his .333 average he virtually ran away with the Continental League Rookie of the Month Award.

He collected 12 hits in June with 1 home run, 2 RBIs and 6 runs scored.

Thus far this year Hardwick is batting .248 with 3 home runs, 17 RBIs and 17 runs scored.

Heck if I know. Looks like bad luck more than anything that I can tell at first glance. They are pretty much middle of the pack in most categories.

-7 in the pyth so that does suggest bad luck, but I wasnt on Chiefs bandwagon this year. If you pitch them with a right hander they are a def different team they if you pitch em a lefty. Chief might have the most dangerous left handed team ive seen a while though.

It is more than just that. Hammersmith only has a .435 winning pct vs Rightys as well. Part of the issue is Betancourt and Gu are a combined 11-19 this season after being so dangerous last year.

The only thing I can tell is that Chief made a change on the left side of the infield defensively for the majority of the games where he doesn't necessarily have great fielders.

Friday, July 9th, 2038: Higashi Swings for the Cycle
The big buzz in the baseball world is about Horiuchi Higashi's performance today at Ballpark of Hammersmith against Chico. Higashi had 4 hits en route to hitting for the cycle, leading the charge for the Hammersmith 8-3 triumph over the Rebels. A cycle requires all of the four types of hits possible -- single, double, triple and home run -- a batter has to have power, speed and a little luck to do it.

"It was one of those games you dream about," Higashi told the press. "I never expected to do something like this when I showed up at the park today. All you really want to do is hit it hard and put it into play. The hits will come." And the hits did come today. The 24-year-old right fielder rounded out his superb batting display with 4 hits in 4 at-bats, 4 runs batted in and 3 runs scored.

H. Higashi hit a two-run double in the 1st, hit an RBI triple in the 3rd, singled in the 5th and hit a solo-shot off J. Harris in the 7th.

In 2038, Higashi is hitting .306 with 14 home runs and 53 RBIs in 78 games played. He also boasts an OBP of .358 with 24 walks and 44 runs scored.

I'm glad you asked. Looks like we have our first rollover bug victim in a very long time.

Aitken: 10-5, 3.48 ERA, WHIP = 1.33 (59/77/62)

Looks like it occured at some point recently as he hasn't had a really bad outing that you would expect from it yet. I'll fix it before we continue.

Saturday, July 17th, 2038: Gonzáles Jacks 3 into the Stands
Fireworks exploded with regularity in the Winged Lingerines-Patriots game, but it wasn't a match that set them off -- it was the bat of Carlos Gonzáles. He belted 3 home runs in an awesome display of sheer power.

In the 7-3 Ann Arbor victory Gonzáles stunned the Patriots pitching staff for 3 hits in 3 at-bats and knocked in 4 runs.

After the game, Gonzáles said simply, "I saw everything they threw at me. Hitting was a piece of cake today... with lots of extra icing on it."

C. Gonzáles hit a solo-shot off F. Borges in the 1st, was hit by a pitch in the 3rd, hit a two-run home run off F. Borges in the 5th, hit a solo-shot off T. Murphy in the 7th and walked in the 9th.

Batting .254 to date, Gonzáles has 27 home runs and 69 RBIs.

I'll fix them as soon as I notice them/see them. I understand your concern about the precedence I'm setting here and the "fairness" of it. If people have more concerns about it, lets take the conversation to PM and we can discuss it without having the 2038 season become about it.

Since this is the first one we've seen in about 20 years or more, I'm hoping it is simply something we don't have to worry about often.

With his performance thus far, you might want to consider asking him to pay you instead.

Sunday, July 18th, 2038:Le Makes 300 Mark
There was a big sigh of relief by Fa-tang Le after he hit his 300th career homer. The Chico first baseman told BNN, "Whew. I'm glad it's over... now I can go back to just playing baseball."

It was quite a day for Le. He got his name in the league record books, 1 hit, 2 RBI, scored 1 run and his team, the Chico Rebels beat the Hartford Harpooners 5-4.

Le knew it when he hit it. He raised his hands in the air, then ran the bases like a high school player clapping and grinning.

He told reporters in the post-game interview, "I was acting goofy running the bases... but it was my 300th home run."

"It was great," his manager said. "He stood there and watched it... we all did. You just felt it was coming... you just had a sense he would hit it soon... he has been having a lot of good at-bats. It was great to get it out of the way."

Lifetime Le has compiled a .286 batting average and collected 1466 hits, 300 home runs and 1025 RBIs.
