IMPORTANT: FOOL And FOOL-X please read

I am encountering some issues this week with my hosting for this league. Long story short, recently when some users had some extended issues connecting, I asked them again to look into what had caused the problem. They got back to me this week and told me that backups were running well beyond the intended duration and it was partially my fault evidently. This ended up kicking off some kind of audit by the host of my environment, and they contacted me this week.

Their summary basically was that despite me having an unlimited storage account, they quoted the following to me from their acceptable usage policy:

Quote:
Accounts on any shared hosting account may not have an excessive number of inodes. Any account found to have over 100,000 inodes may be removed from our backup system to prevent overload. Any account seen to be exceeding 250,000 inodes is at risk for suspension. A warning will be sent and if no action is taken to resolve the issue, the account may be suspended. Every file on the account is counted as 1 inode. This includes mail as well as webpage content.

According to their audit, the amount of files that I have are well over 715,000 and they are threatening account suspension. Looking at their report even closer, each of our leagues have over 250,000 by themselves.

I've been working since yesterday trying to find old stuff to delete to try to see if I can get it within reasonable levels. I'm still continuing to delete files that I do not believe to be vital, and once done I am planning on seeing if it is within acceptable levels for their audit team.

Once done with that, I'll run today's sims but then likely will take a break for the rest of this week just to deal with this further. Currently they are threatening account suspension on October 1st if I don't delete over 80% of the site.. which I don't think is going to even be possible. I'll keep you all updated as I go.

Sorry for the bad news.

Oh man... that stinks Alan. Sounds like a big pain in the you know what. Is there a way FOOL players can donate some $$$ to go to another server without any "restrictions"?

Would a cure all be to take the leagues files to Fidel? I'd be willing to chip in.

EDIT: Maybe your hard earned money going someplace else will wake them up.

Count on me for some financial backing if it comes to that.

Now we know how the chubby guy denied entry to the all-you-can-eat buffet feels!

I really didn't eat much that time. They didn't buy it when I told them I don't eat as much as my belly indicates. They were alarmed that since I was in a electric wheelchair it didn't cost me any energy. I guess able bodied people have problems with energy going up to the buffet bar. If it matters any my wrist does hurt.

As for a break from FOOL. Whatever it takes.
It might give me a chance to get reaquanted with my family, cut the lawn, feed the dog, shower...etc etc...you know, all the things that get back burnered during FOOL season.

Hey guys, just an update. Over the last 36 hours, I've deleted somewhere around 350,000 files from the site, but the host still states I am more than double the allotted number. So, I am still trying to work with them on this.

Wow. That is a ton of files gone to neverland.

Seems like they would give you more room to use since this site is so popular. Kind of crazy to limit you so much.

Hi Alan, I just went through this same issue with the host provider of my league fullcount. My solution was to suspend and delete all league reports for the time being. 100,000 is actually quite generous, I think my host suspends anyone over 50,000 inodes. Where are you hosting? One potential solution is to move over to OOTP12, which I am doing shortly. The league reports are the biggest culprit of inodes, and having the data populated off a mysql database is going to be a huge help. I figure I can host a league with 25k-50k inodes when using a mysql database for reports.

All right, starting to go through FOOL withdrawals. Not pleasant.

Screw these guys, let's go to a new server. We have enough people willing to contribute.

It's not even server specific. Alan, actually has a huge hosting plan.

Alan, out of curiosity is FOOL-X causing more troubles than FOOL for the size alone?

According to the data that they provided me, both FOOL and FOOL-X would be beyond their allowed limits if they were on their own and separate of each other. Having both of them there together just makes it that much worse in dealing with them.

I have been exchanging emails with them for the entire week, and the last information that they provided was that if things are left as is, the account will be suspended. That they recommend that I "upgrade" my account to pay for a dedicated server and hosting instead of using a shared server.

The price of dedicated servers end up usually costing nearly as much per month as I currently pay per year. Looking around, there are other cheaper dedicated service plans that have questionable reliability though as a trade off.

Another issue is that I just paid for the full year hosting as well as other various charges that I pay every year to keep the league going back in August. I'm not entirely sure that my wife is going to let me double dip and pay that all over again to move it elsewhere. So my last email basically suggested if they plan on suspending the account that I already pay for, I assume that they will fully refund the money that I have spent on it as well.

Not so great news so far.

I love how there is always an option to make things work, but it always involves paying 10 X the money. I hope things find a way of sorting out.

Ok, Ill put my money where my mouth is. Fuck this server... how much cash can I supply to keep this league rollin'? It seems we have over stayed our welcome. Let's move on to a new home/host and pick the league back up.

I am like a crack fiend without crack.

Yeah, I kinda said the same thing in PM with hyde. Hell, if no one else wanted to provide the cash, I was ready to foot the bill myself, lol.

Alan, I say take a look at the other sites now and look at how much they cost. Then email me or matt or some of us others with details on how to open an account and what settings/options to choose. Then when we get a password/access, we'll forward that to you and you can move everything over. That way, you don't have to worry about talking your wife into anything.

As for the current site, well, they better dern well give your money back. Two months is not a full year's service.

I wish I could call the host for you. I love calling and talking to account holders. My wife says when I call she has to leave the room because its so funny. If you keep them on the phone they give in sooner or later. Just keep talking till they get tired of listening. Stay respectful though or it don't work. Tell the person on the phone that you know its not them that you have a problem with but they get paid by the people you do have a problem with. See what sports team they like and tell them about the said team. I'm telling you it works each and every time.

This can't be a new issue to them....it's quite shady of them to wait until just AFTER you renew for a year to notify you of their issues!

Hey everyone,

There is something in the works. There should be an announcement soon. Alan's working with some of us longtime fogies on a solution. We should have something to present to you all shortly.

Thank you all for your patience. This is why FOOL's great. We have managed to put together some awesome owners in our two leagues.

Hey everyone, as Chief mentioned, there has been some discussions going on in regards to where we are and where we are going.

The basic summary is despite my efforts, we pretty much are losing the current hosting (if it has not already been shut off already). Directly related to that, I am afraid to announce that after a very rough summer that was full of turmoil for me in regards to the leagues, OOTP as a product and my Real life work getting crazy that I am pretty burnt out at this point and need to take a step back.

The one great thing about the FOOL Community that I have always praised is that this is not just a league run by one person, but instead is a community that has grown together over several years together. FOOL did not start with me, was not my brain child and I did not start as the commissioner. I would like to think that I was a steward that did the best I could to take care of it over the last few years however. It has painfully become obvious to me that my continuing to run things would actually be a detriment to this community though. Instead of things ending here with me, we are going to do what has always been done, and that is the community is going to come together to move FOOL on to its next generation.

After talking with several of the current members of FOOL or FOOL-X that have been in the league since almost as long as I have, the direction that we are going in is very clear now. Hyde4us11 is going to step up and take on the commissioner role for the FOOL leagues. He cares as much about FOOL as anyone here, has as much or more spare time than anyone else here and most importantly is dedicated enough to help get what is needed done. I am hoping that everyone in both leagues will show him your support in remaining as interested, excited and involved in the league as before, feel free to approach him with questions or thoughts as you always have with me and help him keep FOOL alive the same way you all have always offered to help me. I am sure he will very shortly be posting with an update on what the plan is and also bring up any assistance he might need from the rest of you.

In the mean time, as for me.. You aren't part of a great community like this for as long as I have been and then just cut it out of your life like you would a messy divorce. I will still be trying to assist Hyde in the background as best I can when he has questions for me, and maybe at some point if/when I catch up I'll even go back to managing a team again like I once did or such.

I felt that everyone was owed some words from me to let everyone know what is up, what has been happening and what will happen next.

Thanks Alan for the kind words and thoughts. Its a true honor to know that you trust me enough to take over YOUR baby.

As some of you know I'm a morning and afternoon person and was just getting ready to head out for the night. First thing in the morning I'll update everyone with my plan and see if you all agree.

Alan - I want to personally thank you for all the effort you have put into the FOOL community to make this my #1 online gaming experience ever. You have always gone beyond expectations to make Fool/Fool-X the best OOTP leagues one could hope for. I hope in time I get to finally compete against you if you decide to manage a team! Thank you again!!!!!

Hyde - Thank you for taking the "plunge" and dedication of your time to take over. I was thinking a couple days ago that these great leagues may be over - and I became very sad Whatever you need us to do to make the transition as easy as possible then please let us know.

Looking forward to PLAYING BALL again!!!!

Might be premature to ask this, but are we still doing the realignment?

I believe everything Alan said would happen will still happen, though I'll have to comeback to it in a couple weeks.

Okay everyone, there is one problem I have in doing this right now, but others have offered help so I'll start with that. As most of you know, I'm disabled and don't work (hence why I have time). I therefore am on a tight budget. In this, I can't swing the whole site cost on my own. The cost of the server can be paid in monthly installments, 6 months, or by the year. As big of a task as running the leagues will be, I was hoping to pay for the 6 month plan. The cost of each leagues site for that plan is $60, so a total of $120. After I have a basis of how much I have, I will go to him and see if I can have a little break since I'm bringing 2 leagues. I, of course can pitch in some of that as well. If anyone can pitch in please PM me how much you can contribute by paypal and I will give you the information you need. No one is obligated to help. If I have to I can just go the monthly route and swing it myself. Everything feeds off of this so this has to be the 1st step.
