Slot Cars

Anybody here into slot cars? I'm looking to get a set and wondering if anyone here has any preference. I see they make a digital set that looks pretty damn sweet...

This is what it looks like set up:

I have one set for my son, but he has not gotten into it much. If he does I'd sure look into that digital set. We do have an SCX set right now, just a basic figure-8 with two cars.

I used to love this stuff as a kid...here was my favourite Christmas present ever:

My little girls have no interest in cars...unless they are full of Barbies...so I doubt I'll ever be in the market for something like what you are looking into. But they certainly have come a long way and look REALLY fun!!!

I was scarred (almost literally) from the set I got for Christmas when I was 4. My parents told me to always make sure I unplugged the transformer from the wall when I was done playing with it. Well, one day the thing wouldn't unplug. So I went to my dad's toolkit and got a nail puller to pry it from the wall. I remember seeing a flash and feeling my whole body jolt.

I might finally be ready to take up slot cars again.

I don't know much about the newer digital sets but my friend has this one and it gets a lot of play. Description is below and if you are into Formula 1 you can set them up just like the real race.

Tomy AFX 4-Lane Super International$199.99
The Tomy AFX 4-Lane Super International is the best set you can buy. It offers a wide variety of track sections, four (4) fast Tomy AFX Mega-G cars and enough track to build any number of challenging 2- and 4-lane raceways.

The Tomy AFX 4-Lane Super International includes all of the track required to build 4-lane examples of 18 popular Formula 1 circuits.

The Layout Sheet included with the set includes instructions for building each of the Formula 1 tracks. You can of course, design your own raceway as well.
