I swear I never see anyone sign as many pitchers as DC, especially old pitchers.

Ok, those are all of the signings. I'm pushing the file up now.

Some really big names out there in the FA pool, including Mac Rasmussen, Joey Higman and many others. Should be a fun second day.

Hey, DC, who all did you cut? My game says you have $62 M payroll, and you just about cornered the market on old starting pitching right now!

I imagine Chicago had to release some serious talent to make way for 20 million worth of SPs.

You say old, I say effective. I had a strategy and I executed it. If it doesn't work, what I was going to do otherwise wouldn't have worked either. I tried to make moves, but the market doesn't move. So...I did something else.

And I did something else, that I believe, depending on how things go, will work quite effectively for the window in which we're trying to operate in.

But I guess, that's why they play the games...

Well crapola, this trip is gonna cost me. Its probably not a big deal though I didn't have much money to spend and would probably be left picking over day 2 leftovers anyway. Bring on the draft, please please please...

You released Fournier and Higman? That's $40 M between the two of them.

Okay, I say we get that financial plan in place extremely soon. That's just abusive.

Wow.

I was offering $2,000,000 a year. I guess he didn't want to sign on for 4 years.

Never feel obligated to export every night. I don't post that list as a poo-poo list, I just do it so no one asks "Did you get my export?!"

If you're done with your team or don't feel like wasting time with it or have other things to do, it's not big deal just not to export, so long as if you're fine with it in regards to your team.

It's cool.

superhombre will be taking over Chicago after this season. FOOL is okay, but...honestly, with a new job, trying to run a company and the other things I want to do, as well as running the league, it's just a bigger distraction than I want/need.

I've been hinting at it for a while, but...I feel like after moving this is the perfect time for me to finally give up a team after one more swan song season (I hope) and to start to focus my energy onto other pursuits, as I come home and literally sink hours into this night after night, unintentionally sometimes.

Good to know that we've got a league that addictive, but...I need to exercise more restraint. Running the league only, will make that easier for me.

Just figured I'd put it out there, though a few folks already knew because I'd told them, but this time it's serious. Not forever or anything, but at least for a decade or so.

If it makes you feel any better, I lost out on both of the semi-bigger targets I went after, too. I only signed some of the small stuff.

Maybe you need to cut $40 M in contracts.

Heh...did you tell superhombre about the Payton bomb before he took over the team?

I hope this turns out to be a good decision for you, DC. Good luck!

Those two players only had two years left on their respective deals. And people have been cutting big contracts here forever. I don't think I committed some big offense unto the Lord or something. I was just playing with the rules that are in place and used it to do something I'd been trying to do for a long time, which is, trying to assemble the best pitching staff I could assemble. If it doesn't work, oh well.

Everyone needs an Omar Minaya in Montreal's last season in their career, I guess.

Payton will be addressed before I hand the team off.

I've had a good run, but I spend too much time caring about stuff that doesn't matter and winning isn't as satisfying as it once was, when I feel like I have to explain every move I make. So that means I need distance from it and I vowed I'd invest less energy into stuff that doesn't actually yield me real life money, so I need to maintain that.

The team will be fine, the 70s will be remembered as the decade that Chicago arrived at respectability and I'm proud of the fact that I could accomplish that with a franchise that didn't really have a lot to work with before I got here.

Anyway....off to work. League HTML is updated right now.

See you all tonight.

i tacked on a lot of money towards my cap right before the season started last season, so i doubt i could've been the big player in free agency that i would've liked. i make it a point to make the Friday nite sim (most important sim), and try to get as many during the week as possible.

GL in your swan song season and to superhombre with some of the contracts coming up. Speaking of which if/when you do come back I think something needs to be done about the account you use when offering contracts. I noticed there are two seperate accounts, but I noticed that the game still allows you to side step checks in place for other owners. Granted I really do not believe this is done intentionally, but the thing that stuck out at me was the projected budget nubmers for Chicago after this year. Going up to 67.6 and 71.8. This is something that the rest of the owners are not allowed to do as we are limited to keeping it at or under $65.0 million every season.

On another note I think I finally figured out just when shorter or keeping the same amount of years is preferred and when going longer helps out more.

Not true. All of the project budget numbers come from the game's calculation of income from merch, ticket revenue and stuff like that. I'm not able to do anything in that regard than anyone else is. Mine is higher because I generate more revenue it seems...but I don't think I'm doing some super crazy thing that you all can't. We all can only spend to $65 million.

I do intentionally try to seek out financial advantages, but...not doing anything that anyone else can't do. I feel like that was out there a long time ago and that much like some teams do better because some owners grasp the quirks of OOTP better, I just know the financial system of OOTP really well because that's my favorite part of baseball.

Quote:
Rank Team Current Budget
1 Chicago Thunderstorms $129,232,991
2 New York Panthers $123,227,694
3 Colorado Rancheros $121,500,548
4 Brooklyn Brownstones $119,213,475
5 Compton Brothers $115,787,802
6 Atlanta Firecrackers $115,471,261
7 Long Island Violators $112,131,660
8 Valdosta Peanuts $108,935,288
9 Columbus Crusaders $108,568,863
10 Hartford Harpooners $105,383,424
11 Toronto Osprey $103,281,214
12 Rio Grande Roadrunners $102,882,513
13 Texas Travelers $100,742,961
14 New Orleans Wrens $99,203,995
15 San Diego Fathers $98,833,590
16 Baltimore Gothams $98,404,169

That said, I doubt I'll come back. At this point, I feel like I'm damned if I do and damned if I don't, to some degree. Because no matter how I handicap myself, when I find ways to get good again, I sometimes feel like folks are just looking for ways to diminish what I've done by saying, "OMGZ that's not fair" when I do stuff. (And don't worry, I'm not saying that in response to what you said, I promise. You bring up a fair point. It's just something I've felt for a while and have been mum about.")

I still maintain that it takes a pretty insane person to want to run a league like this and not play in it, it's just a lot of commitment for something that doesn't pay. But...I've won enough and I don't have anything left to prove really and I started it, so...I don't see any reason not to keep doing that. I do like the league and think we have a good crop of owners.

But I need to limit my time around here, for the rankling isn't good for my pressure. lol

I am stating the projected team balance not budget. For examle I was going to go over the $65 million threshold in year two of a deal this past off season and had to lower the year two amount to get under $65 million. After bringing down the year two salary my owner would only then allow me to offer the contract. As mentioned I do not believe it was intentional and maybe creating a new account that never had Commish capabilities would solve this issue.

Edit: I realize I mis-stated it in the earlier post. I was looking at the team salary reports.

I think you've been a fine GM & commish. So if you feel this is for the best, then do it. However, I just want you to know that it's all good: you & your team are ok in my book. Peace out, M#.

The Columbus Crusaders have announced 2 new logos for the 1979 season.

CrusadersLogo2.png

This is the new Crusader logo, which represents a more simpler approach than the first logo, which was introduced in the inaugural 1971 season. This will not replace the current "Crusader" jersey, but will be on a purple 3rd jersey for now.

CrusadersCap.png

This is the alternate logo, which will appear on the ballcap. The ballcap will be purple with a gold bill, opposite of the current colors.

What am I dissapointed in? I dont know, maybe its the fact that I just found out that we have two to possibly how ever many guys use a loophole to gain an advantage on the rest of us and have been using this loophole for god knows how long.

Maybe its the double standards that some of us have, like using this said loophole and then calling out other guys an hour or so later for doing nothing wrong, and for something we have been doing since the inception of the league.

Maybe its the fact that I thought we werent a cut throat league, and that playing here was for fun and community just as much as it was for kicking the shit out of "Chicago" (insert whoever team you want there) cause that guy is a rival and is good at building teams.

As much as I tried not to post this, and as much as I tried not to make waves this time, as much drama that we have had here, im torn still sitting here writing this.....

I just dont understand how in the world can we have a rule that says you cant CUT a player, and sign them in the same sim because its not fair to other teams, but yet bells arent going off in a guys head when you VOID an OPTION and then resign the said player before anyone has the chance to even know you voided the contract.. I dont follow how thats even remotely fair.

Once again you gotta love the OOTP quirks and dumbass German programming.....

Maybe its just me here but voiding an option SCREAMS from every possible angle, that you have ripped up the contract and that every other team out there should have the right to try and sign said player.

Just because "in game" it doesnt happen like it should happen, that makes it ok to do it???

I had no freaking idea this shit was happening and im on this board playing and talking to guys just as much as anyone here, and that might not even be the biggest issue here.

To sign guys to contracts with the void feature just so you can void it to have the ability to renig and keep the guy on your team longer??? Im amazed, I dont know how else to put what doing that is.... straight loophole.

Please show me the link to the post where this was pointed out to the rest of the league??? Better yet show me the link where its pointed out in a thread by itself instead of being burried some 8 pages deep in a thread that not everybody reads....

If someone has done this please accept my appologies now but to my honest knowledge I havent seen it.

Im not gonna keep going on about all this because well whats it matter?? This league, this game, Its either fun or its not...

Im in the camp where I love this league and concept, and ill be here no matter what goes on unless my time shrinks down to zero somehow. However im also in the camp and on record about doing stuff for this league that doesnt exactly have to benefit me and instead would or might even be good for the league. I would love it if we were the first league to ever have everyone on board with the same sentiment.

I know I know, saying that and doing that are 2 clearly differnt things and my pipe dream is exactly that, my pipe dream.

Please forgive me for posting this and im sorry that I just created more drama in a league that has already had its fair share, but I couldnt sit here and not answer the question anymore.
