Also just a hint for the future. FA's will not always sign during this period, so it may be wise to keep the amount you offered to yourself until after the player signs.

Nonetheless, its still funny that as a lefty, he hits 99 for contact against lefties and 33 vs righties

That should get him a cup of coffee at some point. He'd be an awesome platoon for someone.

I've been implying for 2 hours that I offered him 130 over 10. Or 82 over 8. Or, given recent trends, I went in and rescinded my offer and changed it to a minor league deal.

Oh, he'll be on my ML roster this year in some capacity, depending on, ya know, stuff. Its possible he is young enough to repair himself and be useful for a few years.

Sorry, the "Slider" watch was meant to be a tease that everyone would have to find out in the file. I ran into a snag because of a problem executing one of the trades. Otherwise I had intended the file to be up by now!

Give Toronto/Boston a few minutes and then I'll have the file up and you can see who won the contest for Sanu.

Precisely. At the cost of an extra roster spot, he punishes lefties for a reasonable price.

Since I screwed up, Alan, I don't want DC to feel the need to renegotiate under the pressure of everyone waiting for the file. Go ahead and put that trade on hold, we can work something out for the next sim.

No it wont. It would if he was placed on the MLB team, but he wont make the MLB team this year, so next year that will roll over to a MLC contract

Yeah, probably should have a seperate financial pointers/helpful hints thread stickied in an organized format that includes info such as this, how some free agents when asking for Minor league contracts will actually sign for those over major league contracts, the various way contract money is used at the end of the season, etc.

I can try to do something along those lines this week.

It's killer that he didn't sign. I'm out because I'm not offering more than I already did and it says he got a better offer. I guess I'm not surprised, lol.

UH-OH!

I dunno though Chief, it's gonna be tough to call. I thought my initial offer was stupid high enough that I couldn't not sign the guy, but as I am quickly learning, the premium on pitching here is astronomical.

Personally I think that EVERYONE should avoid bidding on the stud. Paying one player such a high amount will cripple your team and ensure a sub .500 team for many seasons. It is wise to pass on this player and spend your resourses elsewhere....and then "I" can sign him to a cheap contract...Oh wait, that last part was suppose to be my inside voice....

LOL. Help me, help me eh?

Joking aside, that is the issue at hand. Can one player, especially a pitcher, win enough games to pay for the astronomical sum it will take to do the job? On the one hand, a team like mine could really, really use a star to hang its hat on...but I got a good look when I started here at what a couple of overpriced guys can do to your team if they don't earn their money.

Decisions, decisions. Its a testament to the league, at least for me personally, that I'm in the middle of negotiating a real-world $500,000 contract and I'm sitting here thinking about FOOL.

This is always a fun question. If you are a big Bill James fan and believe in the value of "win shares" then statistically the absolute best players in the league single handedly account for only 10-11 extra wins. The top pitchers? an extra 6-8 wins.

I guess the deciding factor will be how many wins can you in turn pick up in multiple players if you spend the same amount of money elsewhere?
