Oh, BTW, you offered him much less than I did. Must be something in the water in New York.

That is all of the signings for tonight. Trades are processed as well. Am running an update on player pictures for their new team jerseys and then will pack up the file.

I pulled my Duffy bid when I saw I was ahead on "Slider" and found Fujii in the pool. I didn't bid a high enough average for Fujii though. I would have gotten Duffy. Oh well.

Not really sure you would have, actually. I offered Duffy $36 M over 5 years. He took $10 M from NY. Not sure money matters.

NICE...I got the two guys I wanted...Fujii and O'dell...Took a bit of a flyer, but it does give me some much needed young talent...I think it will cost me THIS season, but should help me a great deal in 2 or 3.
I missed out on 1B Bill Chapman to Chicago (who invited that guy to the party anyways) but offered to plan B Nolan Hunter who does have 100 contact vs righties, so at least he can platoon.

All in all, my greatest FA day ever (IMO)....but that doesnt say much because I hardly ever make a splash on Tuesdays...

I am Giddy in Baltimore!

That went well.

I got some guys I needed, which I said I would label a success. But.....I missed out on every impact guy I went after. Really going to have to study the contracts folks are doing, as my approach didn't seem to get it done.

So, I have a 29.5 mil payroll and no one to spend the cap space on. Sucks to be me tonight.

As for Slider, congrats to Colorado....I think. 18+ mil a year? Ouch! I ended making an offer that would give him an average of about 15.7 per year and convinced myself by about 6:00 PM tonight that I was crazy for having done so. Congrats on getting him though, as I'm sure he'll be a headliner for years to come.

Crap, I think I got most of the guys I went after except for Odell who I wanted back. Odell was one of those AAA guys I forgot to check on and became a FA. I had not let that happen for a while and I blew it this year.

Downloading the file now to see how the team is shaping up.

LOL

Yeah, he took a 50% pay cut too so there might be some underlying bitterness about that.....

I don't blame you for doing whatever you felt you had to in order to land him. I learned a hard lesson this week, that a solid offer isn't necessarily going to get it done! It's certainly something that makes this league all the more challenging, as in most leagues that I have seen, FA lasts a week with plenty of chances to fix your bid.

Congrats to all the big FA winners!

Invite? We don't need no stinkin' invite!

I agree you had a very good FA this week, I might even say the best of anyone considering all the awesome young guys you got. I'm relieved I got Chapman, as I think he's the only one I beat you out for. Fujii will be the better player though I think, so you certainly can't feel too bad!

The only other signing this free agency period is one that I am suprised I didn't hear more noise about. Even though he is 34 years old, he is the most decorated pitcher in FOOL history, also going to Napa Valley.

Napa Valley Winemakers: Signed free agent SP C. Gonzáles to a 4-year contract worth a total of $27,690,000.

I need a few minutes to review all of the signings for illegal contract offers and to get the draft ready.

Year #22 coming up, 15th in Rio Grande. Once he is in the HoF I may have to change the name of our stadium to Tanaka Field.

I tried for him and would have loved to have him. My offer was shorter and for less money then that though, so no sour grapes here.

Still had a few illegal contracts this season. Only one was for illegal incentives and it looks like an honest "Hit meet demand button" mistake.

The big offender this season is to do with team options on contracts and contract extensions. Remember that an option year can not be more than 20% higher than the highest guaranteed year in the contract.

So that means if you offer a player 4 years at $5million each, and want to offer him a 5th year as an option, you can not offer the option year to be more than $6million.

Likewise 4 years at $1million each year means the highest an option year can be offered at is $1.2million.

I'll be notifying the teams will illegal contract offers.

File upload is at 65%. about 1 1/2 minutes left for it to be up.

Still quite a few decent free agents available as well going into the draft and spring training.

Also as a reminder, anyone interested in the hall of fame, drop me a PM!

Someone asked via PM basically how much time would be involved for someone volunteering to join the Hall of Fame committee. I don't expect anyone to need to have to do a whole bunch of research or have players memorized. It also is not important that you had been here since the start either.

Sure most of the first batch of players might be before some of the newer owner's time.. but it will only be another month or two before the players you are familiar with or possibly had on your team start showing up. As for stats and details, I won't need anyone to do much research at all as I have all of the stats and information about players that will be available to the committee. Basically I am looking for a few people who can provide alternate opinions based on which players should or should not get in based on the information given.

I plan on providing to the Hall of Fame committee all of the standard career stats for the players as well as how many seasons they were among the league leaders in various stats. I'll have the Hall of Fame monitor, Hall of Fame standard , grey ink test and black ink test numbers for them all as well. I'll also have information regarding any awards or allstar teams the player was voted for. Then each member of the committee can choose which they feel are most important when deciding which players should or should not get in.

So if interested, just let me know. I'll have most of the info spoon fed to you. just want extra opinions from people interested in the process

Ok, starting up OOTP, no one asked for additional time to set spring training or draft orders, so starting things up.

While I get OOTP ready for tonight's sim, please take note of the following thread for a list of changes for the 1983 season. (Season after this upcoming one). All owners are being provided a year early notice to future changes that might affect them.
