1984 Season Thread

I decided to take a break from work to usher in the new season.

So anyone wanna make predictions? In the RL? Hartford versus ??? Will this be Long Island's year? Will San Diego get to the RLCS again? Or will my Boston squad make the playoffs for the first time in their franchise history after playing in FOOL since its inception?

Speaking of tidbits, there are only 3 teams left in the league have never been to the playoffs. Expansion Wyoming, Long Island (formerly Boston) and Boston (formerly New Orleans, El Paso, Austin, Galesburg) and the latter two are clubs that have been in FOOL since the beginning. The Boston squad did end up tying for the RL title in '73, but lost in a tiebreaking best-of-five game playoff against Colorado

In the CL? Seems like it'll be a wide open race between Atlanta, Rio Grande, Napa Valley, New York and Brooklyn, too. Should be a zany year in those parts.

So let's hear it. And good luck to everyone.

Ummm....Baltimore??? Or did you mean that those teams are fighting for the wildcard while Baltimore coasts to the division title?

In the RL...I'm going out on a limb and am picking Hartford and Long Island.
In the CL I am picking Atlanta and Baltimore...

I didn't forget about you in my head, I just forgot to write you down. I made your Continental Cup banner and I know you're still just as good.

Where Carlos Gonzales goes, playoffs follow. In the RL, I think it will be Hartford and Boston. In the CL, I will say Baltimore and Atlanta

I'm hoping for a respectable 75-78 win season, I am tired of a 2 player first round draft list. But seriously, I think my team is much improved and have some thoughts about sliders to try out. I think this year I should get some information on what holes I have left to fill and how best to play my team. I have players in the majors this year fairly similar to what I am developing at the A/AA level.

I think we may surprise a few folks this year. My starters are a bit shakey, and the tail end of my lineup may be a bit suspect, but if some guys go off, we may put a hurt on some teams' plans.

I am new here but I have high hopes. If only 7 or 8 unexpected players perform above averages I will be right there. Sure its a long shot but it could happen. If not theres always next week.

I think Baltimore's official slogan for this year should be

"We will win more and more in '84"

i don't know about this team. it's obviously not #1 material, but i'm liking the trio of Long Island, The Whale's Vagina and Boston to compete all fucking season for #2. i think i improved my pen immensely, and i'm hoping that's what the doctor ordered.

i can't seem to reimport my gamefile. i gave extensions to the wrong players not leaving enough room to sign some other players, and the guy i didn't give extensions to are guys i'd rather keep.

everytime i try to import via FTP it says i have the wrong game date.

It probably is because your exported team file was from Thursday night and can not be used for Friday's sim. (the game dates don't match).

The only way I have found to "undo" mistake signings is to actually delete the entire league from your drive, and re-download it from scratch. That will give you a fresh friday file to work with.. but you'll have to re-do everything.. and I mean everything.. so it is kind of a scorched earth approach.

OOTP doesn't give you a way to "undo" contract offers, which makes sense for solo player, but doesn't as much for online league play. The better way for them to have done it would be that you can change your mind as long as the day hasn't advanced. But once the day advances, if you change your mind it forces the player to not want to sign with you perhaps.

Toronto's is "Straight to the floor in '84".

(It narrowly won the fan vote over the alternative "Stinkin like poopoo in eighty two two")

Wyoming at 16.1 Million doesn't set the all time record for lowest payroll ever.. but probably the lowest of the last 20 seasons!

1984's first game of the season features the Brooklyn Brownstones vs the Baltimore Gothams. Weston 'Terror' Steward throws out the first pitch of the 1984 season.

We'll get things started in just a few minutes after I finish making sure there are no rule violations.

The CL is going to be a HELL of a race this year. Those top 4-5 teams are so close to each other...I can totally wait to see how it pans out.

And yeah, Hartford is playing dead.

.098 winning percentage. Wow. Wyoming will see better days, I'm sure. But man, that makes what Rio Grande did a few years ago...seem...championshipesque.
