I had about $10 M available four years ago, and Daniel Gil was out there. So I picked him up for money purposes (he was doing the HR chase) and played him three years. Then when his numbers fell off enough, I dropped his option and spent the money on Blackmore.

Coleman pitches for Hammersmith (1-1 5.79 ERA this postseason)
vs
Esquivel for Napa Valley (0-1 12.27 ERA this postseason)

Napa Valley gets their first run of the game in the bottom of the 1st when Gathee scores on a throwing error by the catcher on a steal attempt. Lujan then follows him home when Chavez hits a RBI single to give Napa Valley a 2-0 lead. The Winemakers then get a third run in the bottom of the second on a Nate Wallace RBI single.

Doran hits a solo home run in the top of the 5th to get one of the runs back, but Napa Valley responds with one of their own in the bottom of the 6th.

Esquivel pitches well for Napa Valley, going 8 innings and striking out 9 while only allowing 1 run to score on 5 hits.

Heredia goes 3 for 3 with a RBI in the win for the Winemakers as well.

You know, I am coming to the opinion that Coleman is good enough against most teams, which is why he ends up with a high-4 or 5-ish ERA. But he gets absolutely slaughtered in the playoffs by good teams.

Well, okay, he hasn't pitched that bad, but it's not like I can count on him.

Oh well, at least it's a nine game series.

A Sergio Lujan Solo Home run in the bottom of the 3rd makes it 2-0, but Hammersmith responds in the top of the next inning thanks to a sacrifice fly from Aguilar and a Miguel Rodriguez RBI Double that ties the game up 2-2!

It is funny you mention this. The VIllage Idiot actually has an article discussing this phenomenon (not necessarily Coleman specifically) that is already written for the most part but didn't make it in this year due to the VI mailbag. It won't be in the next year's either due to another special feature.. so maybe some day you will actually get to know his thoughts on this subject!!

In the bottom of the third, Aguilar hits a RBI double and Miguel Rodriguez hits a RBI single to help the Hooligans go up 3-0. Napa Valley responds in the top of the 4th however with a Fen Sacrifice fly followed by a DIaz Solo home run that cuts the deficit to one.

The Winemakers jump into the lead in the next inning thanks to a Nate Wallace 423 foot 2-run home run and then a 3-run home run from Chavez is part of the 4 run 6th as Napa valley runs away with this one.
