De Los Santos still pitching for Hammersmith in the bottom of the 10th..

He gets Estrada to fly out to center field..

Serrano steps up as a pinch hitter next and he flies out to center field...

Then Chaundy steps up and he .. you guessed it... flies out to the center fielder....

1-2-3 in the bottom of the 10th, and De Los Santos gets the win for Hammersmith!

Hammersmith 6, Ann Arbor 4 (10 innings)

Hammersmith is the 2028 Republic League Champions!

The 2028 FOOL Classic is set as neither of the regular season champions made it to the final series! ue to a better regular season record, the Winemakers gain homefield advantage.

Hammersmith Hooligans (86-76)
vs
Napa Valley Winemakers (91-71)

a Rematch of the 2019 FOOL Classic that Napa Valley won.

Hell of an assessment there. I liked him, but im not trying to win, or spend a ton of money. He def has nice stats though. Not sure why he slipped through the cracks....

In a tragic clerical error, both Napa Valley and Hammersmith end up getting flights to South Africa. As a backup choice, the FOOL Commissioner's office has decided that Baltimore will play vs Colorado for this year's title!

Umm in the interest of seeing how that plays out, I'm down!

P.S. It hurts just a little bit that you would choose both of the teams over me. Napa was going to make you an honorary part of the family.

Of course, i think I cut about half my team, so we're a bit under manned at this point ;-)

Actually, considering the guys we cut, we'd probably play better.

Napa Valley gets their first run of the game in the bottom of the 1st when Gathee scores on a throwing error by the catcher on a steal attempt. Lujan then follows him home when Chavez hits a RBI single to give Napa Valley a 2-0 lead. The Winemakers then get a third run in the bottom of the second on a Nate Wallace RBI single.

Doran hits a solo home run in the top of the 5th to get one of the runs back, but Napa Valley responds with one of their own in the bottom of the 6th.

Esquivel pitches well for Napa Valley, going 8 innings and striking out 9 while only allowing 1 run to score on 5 hits.

Heredia goes 3 for 3 with a RBI in the win for the Winemakers as well.

Napa Valley 5, Hammersmith 1

You know, I am coming to the opinion that Coleman is good enough against most teams, which is why he ends up with a high-4 or 5-ish ERA. But he gets absolutely slaughtered in the playoffs by good teams.

Well, okay, he hasn't pitched that bad, but it's not like I can count on him.

Oh well, at least it's a nine game series.

Napa Valley once again takes the early lead on a Velona RBI single in the bottom of the 1st that makes the score 1-0. A Sergio Lujan Solo Home run in the bottom of the 3rd makes it 2-0, but Hammersmith responds in the top of the next inning thanks to a sacrifice fly from Aguilar and a Miguel Rodriguez RBI Double that ties the game up 2-2!

Gathee hits a solo home run in the 5th for Napa Valley followed by a solo home run for Heredia in the 6th that puts the Winemakers up 4-2. In the bottom of the 7th Napa Valley puts the fork into the Hooligans as they score 8 runs on 6 hits, 1 error, 2 walks and a hit by pitch.

Gathee goes 2 for 4 with 2 Home Runs, 3 RBI in the win for Napa Valley

Napa Valley 12, Hammersmith 2

Napa Valley leads 2 games to 0.

Just hopping on. Lots of chatter tonight.

Napa Valley is really good. Congrats.

I'm happy to see Blackmore in the title fight. Old at 37 but shows no signs of slowing down. Pretty cheap deal too.

Trading is dead. I hate it. It's hard to get deals done when everyone desires the same things.

It is funny you mention this. The VIllage Idiot actually has an article discussing this phenomenon (not necessarily Coleman specifically) that is already written for the most part but didn't make it in this year due to the VI mailbag. It won't be in the next year's either due to another special feature.. so maybe some day you will actually get to know his thoughts on this subject!!

FOOL Classic Game 3:

Martinez vs Martinez!

Jorge for Napa Valley and Pedro for Hammersmith.

Thank goodness there aren't two players with Blackmore as their last names!

Hammersmith strikes first in the bottom of the 1st as Bignell hits an RBI single that scores Rosales, but Aguilar is thrown out at third to end the threat with only a 1-0 lead.

In the bottom of the third, Aguilar hits a RBI double and Miguel Rodriguez hits a RBI single to help the Hooligans go up 3-0. Napa Valley responds in the top of the 4th however with a Fen Sacrifice fly followed by a DIaz Solo home run that cuts the deficit to one.

The Winemakers jump into the lead in the next inning thanks to a Nate Wallace 423 foot 2-run home run and then a 3-run home run from Chavez is part of the 4 run 6th as Napa valley runs away with this one.

Napa Valley 8, Hammersmith 4

Napa Valley leads the FOOL Classic 3 games to 0.

I sure hope at some point I show up for this one.
