Sierra figured out how to get wins despite having horrible run support!

Monday, September 1st, 2031: Republic League Announces August's Top Pitcher
This month when the New York manager wrote the name "Sierra" on the lineup card, he was pretty confident that he would get a good start out of him. Outing after outing in August Juan Sierra took command and usually got the win.

He dominated with a 3-0 mark and 0.48 ERA in 5 starts, piling up 37.2 innings and 36 strikeouts and holding opposing teams to a .250 average.

For his superb performance Sierra was named the Republic League Pitcher of the Month by the baseball writers.

This year Sierra has a 13-10 mark in 28 starts with a 2.35 ERA. He has given up 174 hits in 207 innings, struck out 205 and issued 30 walks. Opposing clubs have compiled a .230 batting average against him.

Monday, September 1st, 2031: Blankenship August's Best Hurler in CL
In August, when the name of Byron Blankenship appeared on the Baltimore lineup card it was a virtual lock on a victory. He started 7 times and chalked up 5 wins and no losses. With those stats it was a also a virtual lock that he would be named the Continental League Pitcher of the Month.

Blankenship shackled opposing batters on 39 base hits and a .228 batting average. He rang up 43 strikeouts in 48.2 innings of work, surrendered 24 walks and fashioned a sparkling 1.66 ERA.

In 34 starts this season Blankenship has rung up a 18-8 record and a 3.99 ERA.

Monday, September 1st, 2031: Gates Receives August Rookie Award
A rookie, Adam Gates is turning heads around the Republic League, especially since he just netted August's Rookie of the Month trophy.

The Colorado third baseman batted .350 last month and collected 21 hits, 3 home runs, 16 RBIs and 11 runs scored.

This could be the first of many such awards if he continues this torrid hitting, but he's definitely put himself in a good position to claim the Benny Myers Rookie of the Year Award later this year.

Gates is hitting .272 this year with 8 home runs, 35 RBIs and 40 runs scored. He has 72 hits in 265 at-bats, 19 walks and a .329 on-base percentage. Gates has played in 106 games.

Monday, September 1st, 2031: CL Rookie Star Shines
August was a very good month for Dave Juteau. The first baseman for the Tokyo Cyclones was named the best newcomer in the Continental League.

He captured the honor by hitting .337 in 28 games with 34 hits, 5 home runs and 23 RBIs.

In 2031 Juteau is hitting .353 with 183 hits, 29 home runs, 113 RBIs, .454 OBP and has scored 96 runs.

OK now that was funny. Talking about Napa's woes, and the two hitter award winners are both shown still wearing their Napa jerseys but winning for other teams!

I think the fun question is if he'll be close to winning the Tanaka award as well. Right now though Keyte and Lujan both look like threats, but it is so close I can't tell you who i think the computer will pick between the three.

Thursday, September 4th, 2031: Galló Jacks 3 into the Stands
Fireworks exploded with regularity in the Winged Lingerines-Heroes game, but it wasn't a match that set them off -- it was the bat of Ernesto Galló. He belted 3 home runs in an awesome display of sheer power.

In the 13-5 Ann Arbor victory Galló stunned the Heroes pitching staff for 3 hits in 5 at-bats and knocked in 4 runs.

After the game, Galló said simply, "I saw everything they threw at me. Hitting was a piece of cake today... with lots of extra icing on it."

E. Galló flied out in the 1st, struck out in the 2nd, hit a two-run home run off B. Schout in the 4th, hit a solo-shot off A. García in the 5th and hit a solo-shot off R. Parker in the 8th.

This season Galló has hit at a .275 clip and produced 117 RBIs, 37 home runs and 82 runs scored.

Saturday, September 13th, 2031: Archuleta Sizzles, Hammersmith Fizzles
A pitcher's main job is to keep the opposition off the scoreboard and Chico pitcher Félix Archuleta did just that today in a 8-0 victory over the Hammersmith Hooligans at Rebels Ballpark. He gave up no runs in his start, permitted 4 hits and had 13 strikeouts.

To this point in the season Archuleta has 10 wins and 18 losses and a 5.19 ERA.

Saturday, September 20th, 2031: Colorado Draws Blanks Against Chelanga
"He's got a bunch of different arm angles and his ball was really moving," said the Colorado manager after watching Tamrat Chelanga of the Chico Rebels humiliate his club 1-0 in a fine 4-hit shutout.

"If I make good pitches, I'm going to get some outs," Chelanga said after he befuddled the Rancheros. "I was making good pitches the entire game."

He whiffed 8 and walked 1 in the complete game effort.

This year Chelanga has compiled a 14-9 mark with a 4.30 ERA in 32 starts.

Saturday, September 20th, 2031: Anderson Bewilders Harpooners
The Harpooners can take comfort in knowing that they will not have to face Larry Anderson again for a while. The 22-year-old hurler pitched a 4-hit shutout to help the Hammersmith Hooligans beat Hartford 8-0. In the process, Anderson struck out 5 and walked 1.

This season Anderson has compiled a 11-11 mark with a 4.29 ERA.
