FOOL 2041 Regular Season Thread

So who is going to win it all this season? I'll kick things off in about 15 minutes. Running a little late thanks to the Angels vs Yankees going long.

I'm around. Watching the Dodgies, playing Tiger Woods, and drinking like a camel...very windy on the golf course today, and didn't bring enough water. Then ate super salty lasagna at the banquet afterward.

Good luck everyone.

Tokyo's success depends on how dominant my starting rotation can be. My relief pitching and lineup are average at best so the rotation will need to carry us.

Saturday, April 6th, 2041: Gilbert Holds Chico Scoreless
In an outstanding outing, Justin Gilbert tamed Chico on a 2-hit shutout. The Colorado hurler went the distance, finishing with 10 strikeouts and 3 walks in the 6-0 win.

"He had a lot of first pitch strikes and kept us off balance with a lot of off-speed stuff," according to the Chico manager. "We just didn't get too many balls squared up today."

Newark's Naofumi Ueda breezed through the Assassins lineup today, collecting a 2-hit shutout and a 9-0 victory along the way. Ueda fanned 5 as well.

In 6 starts this year Ueda has posted 3 wins while suffering 3 losses. He has pitched 39 innings, allowed 35 hits, struck out 26 and has a 3.92 ERA.

Saturday, May 4th, 2041: Velona Reaches 2000 Milestone
It was a banner day for Ersilio Velona, who collected his 2000th hit in the Chico 6-5 win over Colorado. Velona went 1-2 in the game as both Rebels and Rancheros fans cheered Velona, when he reached base after his hit.

"It feels great to get #2000," Velona said afterward, "especially since we won the game."

Velona currently has a career .266 batting average with 2000 hits, good for 334 home runs, 1173 RBIs and 1349 runs.

Thursday, May 23rd, 2041: England Hits for the Cycle
You might say Roland England wore out his welcome with the Apex Assassins. The second baseman gave them fits in today's 12-1 Newark victory by hitting for the cycle. "To hit for the cycle" is one of the rarest of feats in a baseball game. This occurs when a player hits a single, double, triple and homerun in the same game, getting every type of hit possible. England ended the day with 4 hits in 5 at-bats, 3 runs batted in and 3 runs scored.

Talking to reporters in the postgame interview, he said, "After the first three hits, I thought to myself, This could be the game I hit for the cycle. And I got lucky and did it."

R. England struck out in the 1st, hit a two-run home run off E. Ferretti in the 2nd, tripled in the 5th, doubled in the 7th and hit an RBI single in the 7th.

So far this year England is batting .272 with 4 home runs, 28 RBIs and 26 runs scored.

Ueda becomes the 26th pitcher in FOOL history to reach 250 wins.

Saturday, May 25th, 2041: 250 Wins for Ueda
What would you do after you had just won your 250th game? Run around Zion Stadium doing cartwheels, jumping for joy and waving to the crowd? Well, maybe you and I would do that, but not Naofumi Ueda -- that's not his way.

After he notched number 250, the 36-year-old Newark hurler spoke to the press like he always has -- in a soft, quiet voice. He wasn't doing any cartwheels or even anything resembling a jump for joy. "Obviously it feels very good," Ueda commented. "To win this many games, you've got to have a lot of help."

Ueda got his milestone victory by beating the Baltimore Charm 7-6. He held them to 4 hits in 5.2 innings and rung up 4 strikeouts with 1 walk.

After sharing his thoughts with the press, he went to the clubhouse. There he was greeted by the guys who had helped him get #250. His teammates showered him with champagne and then gave him a rousing round of applause. That got to him -- for the first time today, Ueda's face broke into a big smile.

In his career Ueda has gone 250-166 with an ERA of 3.86, picking up 3167 strikeouts in 3727.1 innings pitched.

The funny thing is, his name is Sjoerd "Broadway" Soethout.

I can already see people call him "Broadway Joe"

Tuesday, May 28th, 2041: Yang Reaches 2500
What a day for Yin-fat Yang. The 39-year-old Newark third baseman reached the 2500-hit mark today and the Terriers whipped the Edmonton Edge 8-7.

Yang told reporters, "It's good to finally get it. The closer you get to 2500, the harder it is to get there. Now the pressure is off and I can go back to just playing ball."

He went 2 for 4 in the game to reach the milestone.

In 2265 games, Yang is a lifetime .291 hitter. He has knocked in 1343 runs, scored 1031 times, hit 191 home runs, walked 532 times and has an on-base percentage of .338.

What I'd give to have lived that era of baseball in today's world. Broadway Joe, Mantle, Teddy Ballgame, and the likes in today's world would have been interesting to say the least.

Third cycle already in this short season thus far.

Thursday, May 30th, 2041: García Clips Cyclones for Cycle
António García of the Boston Settlers had an amazing day at the plate today in a game against Tokyo. Fans at Ballpark of Boston were treated to a hitting spectacle as he hit for the cycle. Yes -- the cycle -- one of baseball's rarest feats and spectator treats. The Boston right fielder hit them all! The single, double, triple and homerun came during his 4 at-bats as the Settlers downed the Cyclones 13-5.

"I would like to say it was skill, but I would be more inclined to say it was some luck, too. Triples are hard to come by."
García finished the day with 4 in 4 tries and raised his batting average a few points. He also had 1 RBI and 3 runs scored.

A. García singled in the 2nd, hit a solo-shot off J. Aitken in the 4th, tripled in the 6th and doubled in the 8th.

García is presently hitting at a .234 pace with 4 home runs and 21 RBIs. He has played in 50 games and scored 22 times.

Saturday, June 1st, 2041: May's Pitcher of the Month Goes to Klassen
Despite the number of years he's been in the league, Rick Klassen still gets excited when he puts together a quality stretch like he had in May. The 30-year-old starter for Hyannis was named Republic League Pitcher of the Month earlier today.

He collected 4 wins and 1 loss with 25 strikeouts in his 6 starts, putting up a fine 3.27 ERA in 44 innings of work.

Thus far this season, Klassen has worked 89.2 innings with 59 strikeouts en route to a 9-1 record and a 3.61 ERA.

Saturday, June 1st, 2041: CL Selects Ueda May's Best Starter
Naofumi Ueda took home the Continental League Pitcher of the Month honors in May. After all these years playing ball, the 36-year-old veteran still enjoys the game as though he'd just broken camp for the first time a month ago. He's a bit older now with a few more aches and pains, but the old man has reason to celebrate, having gone 5-2 for Newark last month and claiming the Pitcher of the Month award.

He tacked up a 2.25 ERA in his 7 starts, tossing 48 innings and striking out 41.

This year Ueda has gone 8-5 with an ERA of 3.00 and has 67 strikeouts in 87 innings.

Ouch 10-13 to start. Not to good. No doubt we will continue to slide and make my prediction even more laughable than it already is.

Saturday, June 1st, 2041: CL Best Hitter Trophy Goes to Juteau
Dave Juteau battered Continental League pitchers all May and wound up taking home the Batter of the Month Award.

"I've been around Front Office Offseason League long enough to know you really have to work hard day in and day out to be able to put up this kind of consistency," the 33-year-old Juteau told reporters. "I put in a lot of work, even on the days I may not take the field and it's always nice when everything comes together for me like it did this last month."

In 29 games, Juteau hit .352 with 5 home runs, 23 RBIs and scored 21 runs.

Juteau is batting .367 in 2041 with 14 home runs, 53 RBIs and 44 runs scored. He has 73 hits in 199 at-bats.

Saturday, June 1st, 2041: RL Spotlight Shines on Rookie Star
A boyish Elliot Ramsey emerged as the latest Republic League Rookie of the Month today. The young man from Hyannis deserved the honor, batting .304 with 5 home runs and 22 runs batted in. Is the month of May a harbinger of things to come or just a fluke? We'll find out someday, but for now, we'll just let Ramsey enjoy the limelight.

Ramsey is hitting .301 in 2041 with 37 RBIs and 7 home runs.

Saturday, June 1st, 2041: CL Rookie Hittin' on All Cylinders in May
António García is still a bit shy, but then, who could blame the newest Continental League Rookie of the Month honoree? He hasn't been around the league long enough to fully know the ropes yet, despite the fact that he's putting up veteran-like numbers.

In May the Boston hitter tagged opposing pitching for a .310 average with 27 hits, 2 home runs and 12 RBIs.

Thus far this year García is batting .230 with 4 home runs, 21 RBIs and 22 runs scored.
