Tuesday, August 20th, 2041: Hartford Halts Little's Hitting Steak
Lady Luck was not on the side of Bob Little or his teammates today at Patriots Place. Everything went the Hartford Harpooners way. They not only came away with a 7-2 victory, but also held Little hitless in 3 at-bats to put an end to the right fielder's 23-game hitting streak.

"It was a good run," Little said afterward. "But it'd be much easier to take right now if we had won."

In this current campaign Little is hitting at a .331 clip with 11 home runs and 80 RBIs.

Wednesday, August 21st, 2041: Assassins Shut out Winemakers, Caulfield Winner
Arnie Caulfield of the Apex Assassins not only shut out Napa Valley 8-0, he made it look effortless. Caulfield stopped them on 5 hits to help the Assassins cruise past the Winemakers. His performance included 10 strikeouts and 2 walks.

This year Caulfield has compiled a 13-6 record with a 4.56 ERA in 24 starts.

Tuesday, August 27th, 2041: Number 2000 for Matos
Norberto Matos has gone through many bats during his playing career. None of them means as much to him as the one he used to crack career hit number 2000 at Edge Ballpark yesterday.

The 31-year-old Edge first baseman told reporters after the game, "I plan to keep this bat at home in my own private Hall of Fame."

It was a happy day for Matos from the standpoint of the 2000-hit milestone, but a little disappointing, too. Despite his achievement, Edmonton dropped the contest to the Napa Valley Winemakers 13-11.

For the day Matos finished the day with 2 hits in 5 at-bats.

In his 1561-game career Matos is batting .313 with 2000 hits, 136 home runs, 846 runs scored and 768 RBIs.

Sunday, September 1st, 2041: Martin Grabs RL Top Pitcher Trophy
Weston Martin's been around the league long enough to appreciate the honor he received today. After going 5-0 in August, the 34-year-old Hammersmith hurler has been named Republic League Pitcher of the Month.

He fanned 23 in 40 innings, logged an ERA of 1.80 and allowed opponents to hit .265 against him.

This year Martin has compiled a 13-7 mark with a 4.35 ERA in 25 starts.

Sunday, September 1st, 2041: Correa Garners CL #1 Pitcher Award
The Continental League named the winner of the Pitcher of the Month Award.
It went to Francisco Correa of Napa Valley Winemakers, who impressed the voters with a glittering 6-1 record in August.

The Napa Valley star hurler made 7 starts, allowed 53 hits in 53.2 innings, struck out 27 and had a 2.01 ERA.

In 2041, Correa has a 16-9 mark in 32 starts with a 2.98 ERA. He has given up 227 hits in 220.1 innings, struck out 126 and issued 36 walks. Opposing clubs have compiled a .268 batting average against him.

Sunday, September 1st, 2041: Okamoto Awarded August's RL Top Bat Prize
Hitomaro Okamoto, the New York right fielder, had a productive month in August. He put up some solid numbers with a .431 batting average (47 for 109), 8 home runs, 30 RBIs and 21 runs scored.

That standout offense earned him the Republic League Batter of the Month Trophy.

So far this year in 126 games Okamoto is hitting .359 with 41 home runs, 140 RBIs and 109 runs scored.

Sunday, September 1st, 2041: Moreno of Boston CL Batter of the Month
José Moreno, the Boston left fielder, certainly made a name for himself this past month. He banged out a .385 batting average with 42 hits, 5 home runs, 19 RBIs and scored 24 times.

That kind of hitting earned him the Continental League Batter of the Month honors for August.

In the 2041 season Moreno is hitting .326 with 16 home runs.

Sunday, September 1st, 2041: Hyannis Third Baseman August's Top Rookie
None of the pitchers could figure him out last month. Shiro Shibata was pure poison to them, lashing out hits with in such abundance he was voted the latest Republic League Rookie of the Month.

In August he hit the ball at a .343 clip, popping off 36 hits and 2 home runs with 15 RBIs and scoring 11 runs.

Hyannis opponents have to be thinking about pitching around this guy until he cools off a bit.

So far this season, Shibata has recorded a .348 batting average with 192 hits, 5 home runs, 71 RBIs, 94 runs scored and a .394 OBP.

Sunday, September 1st, 2041: Tokyo Rookie Star Sparkles
One of the Continental League's brightest newcomers, Richie Hankins was at the head of his class in August as he picked up the Rookie of the Month honors.

The 24-year-old Tokyo center fielder batted .317 with 3 home runs and 11 RBIs.

This year Hankins has hit 16 home runs and posted a .290 batting average.

Friday, September 6th, 2041: Drew Taylor Blanks Newark
"I had everything working for me out there. I used every one of my pitches, hit both sides of the plate really well and felt like I could do whatever I wanted."

With stuff like that, it was easy for Drew Taylor of the Assassins to handcuff the Terriers 5-0 and come away with a complete-game 2-hit shutout. He recorded 8 strikeouts and 1 walk in an impressive performance.

This season Taylor has compiled a 10-14 mark, 5.17 ERA and made 27 starts.

Hey everyone, I'm here. Everyone cheer!

Okay, fine, don't cheer.

I fully admit, I looked...but not at pitcher versus batter for Jimenez, but at the pitching leaderboards, starting at the top for most wins and working my way down. I knew Jimenez was in the RL, so that ruled out Quero and Hensley (both in CL), which were my first two guesses. And I suspected Hasegawa was already retired (he was, 2021).

My best guess from that is Chattaway--who was finishing out his career with my Hooligans when Jimenez broke into the league with New York.

This sounds like it would have been a fun game to watch.

Friday, September 6th, 2041: Gómez Bangs Out 6 Base Hits
It wasn't just another day at the ballpark for José Gómez. It was a very special day, one that many players never experience. But he did. Gómez went on a tear and cracked hit after hit off Tokyo pitching.

When the dust settled on the diamond at Ballpark of Napa Valley, he had a career 6-8 day and something he will long remember. And the Napa Valley Winemakers had a 11-7 victory over the Cyclones.

"Yeah, it'll be something nice to tell the grandkids, but it won't get me a hit tomorrow," he joked in the postgame interview.

J. Gómez singled in the 1st, flied out in the 4th, hit a two-run single in the 5th, singled in the 7th, was hit by a pitch in the 9th, singled in the 11th, singled in the 13th, flied out in the 15th and singled in the 18th.

Presently Gómez is batting .265 with 150 hits and 9 home runs. He has knocked in 43 runs and scored 75 times.

Jimenez did indeed face Chattaway who was also part of the 2011 season. Not the pitcher I was talking about however. Jimenez did hit .316 lifetime against Chattaway in 38 at bats though. So I would give partial credit for the answer, but you peaked so that removes the partial credit. Since you claimed you cheated though, I'll give you 1 point for honesty!

Thursday, September 12th, 2041: García Wallops #300
Baltimore's 3-0 victory over Napa Valley was highlighted by Félix García's 300th career home run. His teammates congratulated him at home plate after he circled the bases.

"I didn't see all of them out there," García said with a chuckle, "until I rounded third base." He added sheepishly: "It was only a home run. It's not like I won us a World Series!"

In 4 at-bats the Charm center fielder collected 2 hits in his historic game, scored 1 run, and had 1 RBI.

García is hitting at a .258 rate over his 1372-game career. Lifetime he has 261 doubles, 30 triples and 300 home runs with 921 RBIs and 741 runs scored.

Sunday, September 15th, 2041: Okamoto Boosts Hit Streak to 25 Games
Hitomaro Okamoto of the New York Heroes just keeps going and going. The hot-hitting right fielder went 3-for-5 in his team's 10-9 victory over the Ann Arbor Winged Lingerines at New York Grounds and extended his hitting streak to 25 games.

"He is definitely on a roll right now" said a Winged Lingerines pitcher. "I thought I made some good pitches against him, but he's a good hitter and hit 'em anyway."

When asked about his performance, Okamoto said, "I don't care if I go hitless as long as we get the win."
H. Okamoto doubled in the 1st, singled in the 3rd, grounded out in the 4th, singled in the 6th and struck out in the 8th.

In the 2041 season Okamoto has hit .360 with 43 home runs, 153 RBIs and scored 121 runs.

I am going to go out on a limb here and declare that Okamoto is a pretty good player.

Whoa Chief! Did you bring all of your Napa Valley love with you or what?

Last season we had a crazy RL finish. This year appears to be the CL's turn.

Looks like I jinxed him.

Monday, September 16th, 2041: Hitting Streak Stopped at 25 Games
Late in the game Heroes right fielder Hitomaro Okamoto stepped into the batter box with his 25-game hitting streak on the line. Up to then he was without a hit. Sadly it just wasn't to be -- Okamoto did not get a hit -- and his streak was finally over. The Winged Lingerines had stopped him, not allowing him a hit in 4 at-bats. However, New York won the game 5-1.

"Winning the game took some of the disappointment out of it," Okamoto told reporters in the clubhouse. "Looking back on it, it was a great experience. Not too many players can say they had a hit in 25 straight games. It's something I will always remember."

This season Okamoto is batting .358 with 43 home runs. He has scored 121 runs and driven in 153.

Tuesday, September 17th, 2041: Edmonton's Jiménez Reaches 2500 Hits
It was a day of mixed emotions for Edmonton third baseman Xavier Jiménez, who collected his 2500th hit in the club's 2-1 loss to Napa Valley. Edge and Winemakers fans alike cheered Jiménez as he reached base after his milestone hit.

"I wish the score had been different," Jiménez said after the game, "but it was a great moment. The standing ovation was really special... even the fans wearing Winemakers caps were cheering me."

Jiménez was 2-4 on the day.

Lifetime Jiménez is hitting .287 with 634 doubles, 38 triples, 337 home runs, 1377 RBIs and 1327 runs scored. He has appeared in 2394 games to date and delivered 2500 hits.

Speaking of Jimenez, this is as good a place as any for the answer to my trivia question.

The pitcher I referred to that Jimenez had a lifetime .364 batting average against in 22 at bats whom also was a major leaguer in 2011 is:

Leon Lopez.

Lopez, second all time in career saves started for Napa Valley as their closer at the ripe young age of 19. He pitched for them for 12 seasons before coming to the Republic League where he pitched for Hartford and Chico (and thus faced Jimenez as well).

Tuesday, September 17th, 2041: Boston's Weston Gets 2000th Hit
Boston's Bernard Weston got the standing ovation -- but the Tokyo Cyclones got the win.
It was a special day for him at Ballpark of Boston. A day when Weston notched hit #2000 of his career. The fans went wild when he did. Even the Cyclones fans applauded.

The Settlers center fielder went 1-4 in a losing cause as Tokyo spoiled the party with the 6-2 victory.
In the postgame interview, a downhearted Weston told the media, "We lost -- It's not about individual accomplishments -- we lost."

When pressed further, he admitted his pride in reaching the 2000-hit mark, "A lot of great players never get there. I'm proud, but I would be happier if we had won."

A check of his lifetime stats shows Weston has a career .294 average with 2000 hits, 503 doubles, 68 triples, 122 home runs and 852 RBIs. To date he has scored 1034 runs, walked 696 times and stolen 365 bases.

When you said the amount of at bats I thought it would be a reliever but I couldn't think of one name from 1911 that wasn't a starter.

Impressive. He and Jimenez actually shared the league for 5 whole years.
