When Tokuhei Mizutani takes the mound, a Hammersmith victory is usually the result. At least that's the way it was in May.

He excelled with a 4-0 mark and a 1.82 ERA in 5 starts, tossed 39.2 innings, fanned 13 and held opposing batters to a .190 average.

That's why the Hooligans starter was honored today as the Pitcher of the Month by the Republic League.

This year Mizutani has compiled a 6-2 mark with a 3.04 ERA in 10 starts.

Huh. Happy to see this. A little surprised. I projected him to have numbers like this when he first came up. But he has been, shall we say, inconsistent.

The Republic League has given Hitomaro Okamoto the Batter of the Month Award.

In May, the New York right fielder starred with a .462 batting average, 10 home runs and 27 RBIs. Okamoto also had 5 walks, posted a .487 on-base percentage and scored 31 times.

This season Okamoto is batting .423 with 21 home runs. He has scored 59 runs and driven in 59.

Haven't had a Triple Crown winner at least 6 or 7 years. Okamoto might be the one.

Over the past month the 23-year-old center fielder for Chico hit .336 with 37 hits, no home runs and 8 RBI. He also logged 13 walks and compiled a .447 on-base percentage.

This season Ritter is batting at a .261 clip with no home runs and 14 RBIs.

Heh...I wonder if this annoys Tasan at all, with Gallagher getting it?

Reminds me of two seasons ago, when I just knew Chavez was the best rookie out there by a long shot, and he wouldn't get a ROM award (I think he won 4 of 6 for the RL in 2039).

Okamoto has an OPS of 1.253 currently. The single season record is Felipe Aguilera from 1997 with a 1.176

9-3 away this time, an exact turnaround from April. 7-5 at home.

I would make sense of it if I could.

Hammersmith is giving Sanchez 5.25 Runs of support per game. That will help any pitcher win alot!

Yeah, he gets the Run Support Award of the Year so far.

I have to think (hope?), though, that a guy who was one of the top favorites for the Prado last year is going to bounce back, and that will make that record even better.

Actually he isn't. But the top three are all Hammersmith pitchers

Ardito 6.46 runs of support per game
Betancourt 5.87
Sanchez 5.25

Tuesday, June 24th, 2042: Álex Quiñones Gets Hit Number 2000
The day belonged to Álex Quiñones of the Apex Assassins as he became the latest player to reach the 2000-hit plateau. He did it in Apex's 9-2 win over Baltimore.

"It's a moment I'll never forget," said Quiñones after the game, "2000 hits is a lot. It puts you in a very select group. I never expected to be around long enough to reach a milestone like this."

He finished the day with 2 hits in 5 at-bats.

Quiñones's career batting average stands at .310, and he has 236 home runs.

Tuesday, July 1st, 2042: RL Top Pitcher Award for June to Hsi
Kuei-lin Hsi took home the Republic League Pitcher of the Month honors in June. After all these years playing ball, the 35-year-old veteran still enjoys the game as though he'd just broken camp for the first time a month ago. He's a bit older now with a few more aches and pains, but the old man has reason to celebrate, having gone 4-1 for Ann Arbor last month and claiming the Pitcher of the Month award.

He tacked up a 3.07 ERA in his 7 starts, tossing 44 innings and striking out 28.

To this point in the season Hsi has 7 wins and 6 losses and a 4.97 ERA.

Monday, July 7th, 2042: Blowey Rips 3 Homers Against Rebels
What did Pat Blowey eat for breakfast prior to his game against Chico? Whatever it was, it provided some surprising power as the Ann Arbor second baseman smacked three balls up and out of the park at Ann Arbor Grounds. His power surge sparked the Winged Lingerines to a 15-7 victory over the Rebels.

He told BNN reporters, "When they throw it in your wheelhouse, you got a shot at a homer. I got three shots today and nailed them all."

On his 3-homer day he went 3 for 6, scored 3 times, drove in 3 and put his name in the league record book.

P. Blowey grounded out in the 1st, hit a solo-shot off R. Salazar in the 3rd, flied out in the 5th, hit a solo-shot off J. Harris in the 7th, hit a solo-shot off J. Harris in the 8th and grounded out in the 9th.

In the 2042 season Blowey has hit .299 with 16 home runs, 62 RBIs and scored 66 runs.

You're tearing the league apart.

And yet I have a better Pyth record than you do.

Up until last year, I consistently had a negative Pyth record (10 of the previous 12 seasons before 2041). Looks like I have returned to that.

Nice to see Sanchez in the All-Star game. He was a big pickup for me, I think.

Monday, July 14th, 2042: Cruden Goes Yard 3 Times
Bombs away!
Apex bombardier Jon Cruden set his sights on the stands and blasted three balls over the fence in a 12-0 win over the Baltimore Charm. It was a powerful performance that should keep the fans at Assasins Ballpark buzzing for days.

He spoke to the writers in the postgame press room and said, "I guess you could say I was a good guesser today... especially on the last one... I was ahead in the count, so I got set for a certain pitch... and got it... all of it."

For the game the Apex right fielder had 4 hits in 4 at-bats, drove in 8 and scored 3 runs.

J. Cruden hit a solo-shot off O. Hernández in the 1st, hit a two-run home run off O. Hernández in the 3rd, hit a three-run home run off O. Hernández in the 4th, walked in the 6th and hit a two-run single in the 8th.

This season Cruden has hit at a .264 clip with 46 RBIs, 11 home runs and 48 runs scored. He has played in 87 games.

Friday, July 18th, 2042: Hyannis Helpless Against Sánchez
Manuel Sánchez of the Hammersmith Hooligans was really in the zone as he mowed down the Hyannis hitters 5-0 in a sterling mound performance.

"I'm feeling good overall," he said.

"I'm executing my pitches, I'm able to hit my spots and I'm getting outs in key situations."

Sánchez shut down the Hyannis Patriots, blanking them on 2 hits while registering 8 strikeouts and 2 walks.

To date this season, Sánchez has a record of 9 wins and 3 losses and a 3.90 ERA. He has appeared in 19 games and struck out 130 in 134 innings.

Sunday, July 20th, 2042: Lozano Hitless, Streak Ends at 28
Andrés Lozano saw his 28-game hitting streak wither and die today during the Winged Lingerines 5-4 victory over Hartford at Ann Arbor Grounds. The 29-year-old third baseman was held hitless in 3 at-bats by Harpooners, but his Ann Arbor teammates produced enough offense to garner the win.

Talking to BNN reporters after the game, Lozano was upbeat, "Am I disappointed about the hit streak? Maybe, just a little bit. How could you be unhappy after you have hit in 28 straight games? I'm just glad it lasted as long as it did. And I am really happy that we won another ballgame today. Life is good."

Lozano is swinging at a .305 pace on the year with 11 home runs, 44 RBIs and 57 runs scored. He has played in 90 games.
