The FOOL league leader in HRs and RBIs doesn't make the All Star Team?

(or at least as of June 30, he was)

Number 2500 for Hudson
Wednesday, July 19th, 2084: Dave Hudson's bat made good contact with the ball as he has many times in his career, but this time it added his name to an elite list of players with 2500 hits. The Boston shortstop went to the plate 5 times and racked up 1 hit to gain the honor. But the Settlers couldn't pull off a win -- they fell to the Apex Assassins, 4-1.

Over his 1984-game career Hudson has compiled a .325 batting average and collected 2500 hits, 123 home runs and 812 RBIs.

Having an OBP below .300 probably didn't help his cause too much, but I agree generally you would see the HR leader at the All star game even if he was hitting .200

Kim Baffles Tokyo
Thursday, July 20th, 2084: After his 4-0 shutout win against the Cyclones, Young-pil Kim said, "I went out there to try and eat up innings and help out our bullpen. I felt I had my good stuff... and it turned out my command was solid and my breaking balls were good."

They were better than good as the Charm pitcher put up 3 strikeouts, surrendered 2 walks, allowed 2 hits and kept the bullpen phone quiet all day long.

So far this season Kim has 10 wins and 3 losses and a 3.65 ERA.

July's RL Top Pitcher is Harpooners Rivera
Tuesday, August 1st, 2084: When Héctor Rivera takes the hill, there's a good chance for a Hartford victory. At least that's the way it was in May.

He excelled with a 4-0 mark and a 1.89 ERA in 5 starts, tossed 33.1 innings, fanned 35, and held enemy hitters to a .210 average.

That's why the Harpooners star was honored today as the Pitcher of the Month by the Republic League.

In 21 starts this season Rivera has notched a 10-3 record and a 3.38 ERA.

Continental League Names #1 Pitcher in July
Tuesday, August 1st, 2084: Maxime Leblond is at the zenith of his career and today he was selected as the Continental League Pitcher of the Month for July.

He made 11 relief appearances for Napa Valley last month, throwing 11.1 innings and collecting 6 saves, a 3-1 record, 16 strikeouts and a 0.79 ERA.

Leblond has nailed down 20 saves to date. In 54 innings he has fanned 57 batters and walked 10. His pitching record is 7 wins and 5 losses with a 3.00 ERA.

Thus far this season Clark has hit .280 with 23 home runs, 76 RBIs and scored 63 times.

CL Honors Tarn, #1 Batter in July

Aoki Gets RL Rookie of Month Honors
Tuesday, August 1st, 2084: July was a month Ann Arbor first baseman Hidemichi Aoki is not likely to forget very soon. Not only did he hit .302, he was also named the winner of the Republic League Rookie of the Month award.

He nailed down the honor with a .302 average, 26 hits, 3 home runs, 10 RBIs and 8 runs scored during the month.

So far this year Aoki has hit .298 with 8 home runs, 46 RBIs and 63 runs scored.

Boston Center Fielder July's Top Rookie
Tuesday, August 1st, 2084: Youngster Christian Johnston emerged as the latest Continental League Rookie of the Month today. The young man from Boston deserved the honor, batting .295 with 2 home runs and 8 runs batted in. Is the month of July a harbinger of things to come or just a fluke? We'll find out someday, but for now, we'll just let Johnston enjoy the limelight.

Johnston has collected 99 hits for the Settlers this year, 10 of them home runs. He has also netted 42 RBIs and scored 46 runs while batting .263.

Doesn't seem to be a particularly strong year for rookie hitters (no word on pitchers, the ROY almost never awards a rookie pitcher with a ROTM award).

In my opinion, its been like this for about 4-6 seasons now for the most part. I haven't seen many really impressive hitter rookies for a bit. I think that is because for the past 5 years the young rookie pitchers have been surpassing the rookie hitters as far as development goes as the pendulum swings back that direction. I think that is also why now 5-6 years later we're seeing it actually widespread across the league as far as stats go too.

Pyth record just 1 GB of 2nd place of Ann Arbor.
5 games under .500 at home, 5 games over .500 on the road.

3rd place, 8 games out of the playoffs.

Yup, that's Hammersmith baseball, all right!

Estrada Reaches 300 Mark
Saturday, August 5th, 2084: Hammersmith's outstanding right fielder Manuel Estrada joined the 300 home run club today at Harpooners Ballpark III with a booming blast in the Hooligans win over the Harpooners. They topped Hartford 8-5.

On his milestone day Estrada had 1 hit in 5 at-bats with 2 runs batted in and 1 run scored.

Tongue-in-cheek he told the press, "Don't tell me when I get close to the next milestone. Just tell me after I reach it. It will be easier to hit that way."

Over his career Estrada has batted .236 and collected 1180 hits, 300 home runs and 1091 RBIs.

Carneirinho Holds Devils Scoreless
Sunday, August 13th, 2084: Donato Carneirinho of the Halifax Winter Wolves spun his magic on the Georgia Devils today. He blanked them 5-0 on 2 hits, registering 3 strikeouts and 1 walk.

"The bottom line was I just kept the ball down," Carneirinho said. "My breaking stuff was down. Everything was down."

Talking to reporters in the postgame interview, the Halifax skipper said, "We got solid pitching, good defense and we took great team at-bats in a lot of different situations. This was just a solid performance by everyone."

This year Carneirinho has posted a 12-8 mark in 22 starts and has a 2.86 ERA.

Hall Dominates Devils in Shutout
Wednesday, August 16th, 2084: The Georgia Devils were almost helpless today in their 9-0 loss to Baltimore hurler John Hall. He kept them confused the entire ballgame and spun a 2-hit shutout.

The Georgia manager said in the postgame interview, "Tip your hat to Hall. He kept us off balance all night."

Hall said, "It just happened to be one of those games where even when I made mistakes, they either fouled them off or someone would make a fine defensive play. It was just one of those games that things went my way."

He had 1 walk and 5 strikeouts in a strong performance.

So far this season Hall has compiled a 11-8 record with a 3.57 ERA.

Brenton Twirls Settlers to Shutout Win
Wednesday, August 30th, 2084: Paul Brenton of the Boston Settlers shut out the Georgia Devils 1-0, held them to 2 hits with 2 walks and 4 strikeouts. Brenton said, "I could throw any pitch on any count."

The Georgia skipper called his game a jewel, saying, "The way he was pitching, it would have been tough for anyone to beat him."

This season Brenton has a 10-7 record with a 3.15 ERA.

Okay, former slow developing, long time Hooligan Carneirinho is officially annoying me with his success this season, success he owes to the franchise that kept him employed far longer than his performance had given him the right to be.

On August 1st, Georgia was just 1 1/2 games out of a playoff spot. Three straight news stories of them being 2-hit in games can't be a good sign of the health of their offense though. Will it be enough to knock them out of contention in the standings though?

If anyone wonders about the overall offensive numbers in the league, they have stayed roughly the same as last season, perhaps a little more favoring the batters, but not much.

oddly enough though, the RL is scoring 1/2 a run more per game as some of the young studs from last season have fallen back to earth. In the CL pitchers have stepped it up and teams are scoring almost 1/2 a run less per game.

Merritt at His Best, Blanks Ann Arbor
Friday, September 15th, 2084: Reid Merritt of the Toronto Marlboros shut out the Ann Arbor Winged Lingerines 12-0, stopped them on 2 hits and had 8 strikeouts and 5 walks in a strong outing.

After the game his manager said, "He just came out and was on the attack from the first pitch he threw. When Reid stays ahead in the count, he does well. That's the key."

Season-to-date Merritt has rung up 9 wins and 5 losses in 28 appearances. He has an ERA of 4.70 and has fanned 117 batters in 180 innings.

You know, you would think out of sheer luck, I would finally get a team back in the playoffs. I mean, how can someone put this much effort into it and continue to suck? Wow...

...I am going throw such a huge party when, A) I finally make the playoffs again in FOOL, or B) we finally move on from OOTPX and never use it again.

I hope A happens before B.

McLehose Breezes to Shutout Victory
Saturday, September 23rd, 2084: Joe McLehose effectively shut down the Winemakers today, blanking them 6-0 on 3 hits, ringing up 3 strikeouts and allowing 4 walks. The Assassins pitcher appeared to get stronger as the game went on.

"I don't know if I was getting any stronger," McLehose said after the game, "I feel like my mechanics were getting better. I was able to make some adjustments and get a little more comfortable out there."

The Winemakers skipper said, "We had some opportunities, but weren't able to execute. We just didn't swing the bats very well today."

McLehose has gone 6-11 this season with an ERA of 4.27 and 87 strikeouts in 177 innings pitched. Other clubs are hitting .251 against him.

Are you sure it is a person and not an animal? I can't set my trash out at night because various dogs/raccoons/whatever go through it. So I always put it out first thing in the morning.

Wow, that happens where you live? If someone were to make a mess on my property, I think I would go ballistic that they even came onto the property. Now, if they're picking through my trash on the street curb, fine, that's public property and I have already basically thrown it away. But on the property? Man...

Ávila Tosses Shutout Against Winged Lingerines
Friday, October 6th, 2084: Tony Ávila spun his magic in a 2-0 shutout victory, allowing 1 hit while totaling 1 walk and 3 strikeouts.

To this point in the season Ávila has 1 save in 36 relief appearances with a 5-7 record and 7.62 ERA.

Baltimore has a magic number of 4

Halifax is still alive in the playoff chase

Ann Arbor and Toronto are both in the playoffs. They are deadlock in the fight for homefield advantage in the RLCS

To end the season,

Napa Valley has 1 game left @ Georgia
Halifax has 2 games @ Apex before finishing the season with a 3 game series @ Baltimore.

Due to the Baltimore vs Halifax series to end the season, I think it is impossible for Napa Valley to not make the playoffs despite not having mathematically clinched it yet.

Toronto has 3 games left vs Hammersmith
Ann Arbor has 1 game left @ Hartford

Bad news for Toronto. We're playing them at their place.
