Gutiérrez Awarded April's CL Top Bat Prize
Sunday, May 1st, 2168: There's nothing like putting up good, solid numbers in the last year of your contract. Today Pedro Gutiérrez helped his contract negotiations by nabbing April's Continental League Batter of the Month honors.

The Brooklyn shortstop put together a .350 batting average with 8 home runs, 17 RBIs and 23 runs scored.

Someone will surely be opening up the vault this offseason if Gutiérrez continues at this brisk pace.


Lewis Cops RL Batter of the Month Honors
Sunday, May 1st, 2168: John Lewis of the Chico Rebels stood out in April with a .405 batting average against Republic League pitchers to land him the Batter of the Month award.

The 27-year-old center fielder totaled 6 home runs, 15 RBIs and 15 runs scored. He also chipped in 9 walks for a .474 on-base percentage.

Continental League Announces Top Starter
Sunday, May 1st, 2168: António Fernández hasn't been around the big leagues long enough to know that youngsters shouldn't be winning Continental League Pitcher of the Month. But when you put up numbers like his, you're going to get some notice.

In April the Apex starter earned a 4-1 mark in 5 starts. He threw 38 innings, struck out 29 and compiled a solid 2.13 ERA.


RL's Top Starter is Simpson
Sunday, May 1st, 2168: Despite the number of years he's been in the league, Stanley Simpson still gets excited when he puts together a quality stretch like he had in April. The 31-year-old starter for Ann Arbor was named Republic League Pitcher of the Month earlier today.

Brooklyn's Catron Chosen CL Batter of the Month
Wednesday, June 1st, 2168: Seasoned by several years of professional experience, 28-year-old Ángel Catron put together a solid offensive month for Brooklyn and was crowned May's top batter in the Continental League.

He batted .327 with 11 home runs, 27 RBIs and 21 runs scored.



Looking at his stats this year, Catron has compiled a .297 batting average, while hitting 14 home runs and driving in 45 runs. He has played in 53 games and scored 30 runs.


Feliciano Wins Best Bat Award in May
Wednesday, June 1st, 2168: Prospective free agents love to have hot streaks and Alejandro Feliciano is no exception. The Ann Arbor right fielder capped off a fine month by hauling in Batter of the Month honors in the Republic League.

In May Feliciano hit .306 with 12 home runs, 29 RBIs and 20 runs scored.

Feliciano is batting .279 with 15 home runs and 45 RBIs this season.

Young Earns CL's Best Pitcher Honor
Wednesday, June 1st, 2168: Ralph Young's been around the league long enough to appreciate the honor he received today. After going 4-1 in May, the 34-year-old Apex hurler has been named Continental League Pitcher of the Month.

He fanned 23 in 39 innings, logged an ERA of 1.85 and allowed opponents to hit .209 against him.

Checking out his stats for the season, Young has registered 6 wins and 3 losses in 11 starts, 3.40 ERA and struck out 53 batters in 79.1 innings.


May's RL Top Pitcher is Rebels Magalaes
Wednesday, June 1st, 2168: Juan Magalaes is at the zenith of his career and today he was selected as the Republic League Pitcher of the Month for May.

He made 12 relief appearances for Chico last month, throwing 16.2 innings and collecting 4 saves, a 3-0 record, 15 strikeouts and a 1.62 ERA.

So far this year Magalaes has delivered 9 saves. In 20 relief appearances he has 22 strikeouts in 27 innings with a 2.00 ERA and a 4-1 won-lost mark.

Wednesday, June 1st, 2168: José Guzmán of the Brooklyn Brownstones collared May's Rookie of the Month honors in the Continental League.

Last month he put up a .294 BA, 25 hits, 6 home runs, 13 RBIs and scored 9 times.

So far this year Guzmán is hitting .257 with 9 home runs.


Republic League Names Rookie of Month
Wednesday, June 1st, 2168: Conrad Graham was toddling around on his tricycle when some of the guys he's playing against were in their prime, but the 23-year-old center fielder definitely knows how to get to first, second or beyond. Today he was chosen May's Republic League Rookie of the Month for his remarkable month of hitting.

In 27 games Graham batted .306 for Ann Arbor, slapping 34 hits in 111 at-bats with 4 home runs, drove in 17 runs and scored 14 times.

So far this year Graham is batting .274 with 6 home runs.

Muñóz Wins CL's Best Bat Award
Friday, July 1st, 2168: The Continental League has made it official -- Manny Muñóz is the winner of the Batter of the Month trophy.

In June, the Napa Valley right fielder starred with a .359 batting average, 7 home runs and 22 RBIs. Muñóz also had 13 walks, posted a .434 on-base percentage and scored 22 times.

Thus far this year Muñóz is hitting .313 with 17 home runs, 51 RBIs and 58 runs scored.

Friday, July 1st, 2168: When guys like Toronto's Ramón Morín win Batter of the Month awards, it just makes you feel good. In a productive June, the longtime Republic League veteran toyed with opposing pitchers all month long, collecting 32 hits in 91 at-bats.

The veteran left fielder hit for a .352 batting average and collected 4 home runs, 15 RBIs and 16 runs scored.

Friday, July 1st, 2168: Dennis Washington will be bringing June's Continental League Pitcher of the Month trophy home to Noblesville. He excelled all month long as he kept opposing hitters guessing, reaching and hoping.

Washington started 4 games, going 3-1 with 29 strikeouts in 41.2 innings as he compiled his 2.16 ERA.

This season Washington has compiled a 5-10 mark, 6.65 ERA and made 13 starts.

Friday, July 1st, 2168: Veteran José Garza Jr. put together quite a successful stretch in June for the Omaha Bees, earning himself the Republic League Pitcher of the Month award.

Friday, July 1st, 2168: Francisco Pomares's eyes seem to light up whenever he sees the baseball. The young Apex center fielder has been hitting everything in sight for the better part of a month.

In June he was voted the Rookie of the Month Award.

Friday, July 1st, 2168: Vicente Martínez takes the hill with uncharacteristic poise for a man of so few years. Martínez is just a lad, but he strung together some solid starts last month to win the Republic League Rookie of the Month crown.

CL's Best Batter Announced
Monday, August 1st, 2168: Bobby Phillips is in the final year of his contract with Napa Valley and today added a timely piece of hardware to his trophy case. Playing in 25 games in July the 29-year-old first baseman ripped Continental League pitchers for a .363 batting average, nabbing him the Batter of the Month award.

He also rang up 12 home runs, 30 RBIs and 23 runs scored.

If Phillips keeps up this pace, he'll cost someone a lot of money.

To date Phillips has chalked up a .257 average with 20 home runs, driven in 62 runs and scored 58 times.


RL's Premier Batter Picked
Monday, August 1st, 2168: Fans, friends and family were cheering today when Harvey Homer received July's Republic League Batter of the Month Award.

Homer stung the ball all month, posting a .388 batting average with 7 home runs, 21 RBIs and 20 runs scored.

Currently Homer is batting .299 with 19 home runs and 68 RBIs.

CL Picks July's Top Pitcher
Monday, August 1st, 2168: Sixto Nedomuceno was the anchor in the Baltimore bullpen last month and snatched up the Continental League Pitcher of the Month honors for July. The 30-year-old is in the prime of his career and pitching like he intends to stay around baseball for quite some time to come.

He threw 12.1 innings over 12 relief appearances and collected a 3-0 record with 12 strikeouts and 7 saves while etching his 0.73 ERA.

Nedomuceno's record so far this season is 6-and-2 with 20 saves and a 2.41 ERA. He has given up 35 hits in 56 innings with 61 strikeouts.


Toronto Starter Named RL's Premier Pitcher
Monday, August 1st, 2168: As Francisco Romero hoisted up the Republic League Pitcher of the Month trophy for July, rumors have already begun to swirl about whether he will leave Toronto once his contract is up at the end of the season.

Romero put pressure on the Marlboros to keep him around by posting a 4-1 record and an ERA of 1.83 over 39.1 innings last month. He also rolled up 18 strikeouts, increasing his value both to Toronto and to every other team in the league.

Season-to-date Romero has rung up 9 wins and 5 losses in 20 appearances. He has an ERA of 3.33 and has fanned 67 batters in 132.1 innings.

Best Continental League Newcomer Named
Monday, August 1st, 2168: Youngster Francisco Pomares emerged as the latest Continental League Rookie of the Month today. The young man from Apex deserved the honor, batting .327 with 3 home runs and 12 RBI. Is the month of July a harbinger of things to come or just a fluke? We'll find out someday, but for now, we'll just let Pomares enjoy the limelight.

Pomares is presently hitting at a .284 pace with 11 home runs and 47 RBIs. He has played in 96 games and scored 62 times.


José Noriega Triumphs in RL Rookie Vote
Monday, August 1st, 2168: José Noriega is still a bit shy, but then, who could blame the newest Republic League Rookie of the Month honoree? He hasn't been around the league long enough to fully know the ropes yet, despite the fact that he's putting up veteran-like numbers.

In July the Hartford hitter tagged opposing pitching for a .295 average with 26 hits, 1 home run and 16 RBIs.

Beaudoin of Brooklyn CL Batter of the Month
Thursday, September 1st, 2168: Carl Beaudoin earned August's Batter of the Month honors in the Continental League by reeling off a .366 average, going 37 for 101 with 11 home runs, 23 RBIs and 32 runs scored.

The soon-to-be free agent was hitting with great urgency in an effort to bolster his asking price in the Brooklyn clubhouse and around the rest of the league.

This season Beaudoin is hitting at a .322 pace with 34 home runs, 78 RBIs and has scored 108 times.


August's Best RL Hitter is Curt Woods
Thursday, September 1st, 2168: The Republic League Batter of the Month has been picked for August and the honor goes to the Omaha Bees Curt Woods.

He compiled a .349 batting average with 37 hits and 10 home runs, along with 27 RBIs and 22 runs scored.

This year Woods is batting .246 with 29 home runs. He has scored 73 runs and driven in 78.

Pereiro Voted Best CL Pitcher in August
Thursday, September 1st, 2168: August's premier pitcher was Cisco Pereiro of Apex Assassins. He pulverized Continental League hitters all month long and picked up the Pitcher of the Month award. The Assassins star hurler fashioned a 5-0 en route to the honor.

He had 17 strikeouts in 36.1 innings and compiled a 2.48 ERA. Other clubs hit .205 against him.

On the year Pereiro has worked 150.2 innings with 90 strikeouts en route to a 10-5 record and 3.29 ERA.


RL #1 Pitcher in August is Omaha's García
Thursday, September 1st, 2168: August's standout hurler was Jesús García of Omaha. He muzzled Republic League hitters and held them in check the entire month to capture the Pitcher of the Month award.

To win the honor García compiled an impressive 4-1 mark and 1.63 ERA in 6 starts. The Bees star hurler also rung up 25 strikeouts in 49.2 innings.

Checking out his stats for the season, García has notched 11 wins and 13 losses in 26 starts, 4.32 ERA and struck out 92 batters in 183.1 innings.

Thursday, September 1st, 2168: He's only in his debut season, but Cisco Pereiro performed more like a veteran on the hill for the Apex Assassins and walked away with August's Continental League Rookie of the Month Award in the process.

Last month this young hurler recorded 5 wins and no losses in 6 starts. He threw 36.1 innings, giving up 9 walks, fanning 17 and compiling a 2.48 ERA.

For the year Pereiro has compiled a 10-5 record with a 3.29 ERA.

Cleveland's McDermid Bags CL Batting Award
Saturday, October 1st, 2168: In the last year of his deal with Cleveland, Jim McDermid has created some waves by winning September's Continental League Batter of the Month title today.

He put up a solid .347 batting average with 6 home runs, 21 RBIs and 20 runs scored. He also worked CL pitchers for 24 walks and a .520 on-base percentage.

If he keeps churning out numbers like these, the 28-year-old is sure to draw some attention, when contract time rolls around.

This season McDermid is batting .312 with 28 home runs. His totals include 104 RBIs and 108 runs scored.


RL Best Hitter Award to Hartford's Víctor Moreno
Saturday, October 1st, 2168: On the heels of a very productive September, Víctor Moreno received Republic League Batter of the Month recognition today.

The battle-tested left fielder hit .330 for the Hartford Riverhawks and racked up 8 home runs, 18 RBIs and 18 runs scored.

On the season, Moreno is batting .274 with 34 home runs and 108 RBIs. He has played in 153 games.

September's #1 Hurler Announced: Kokawa
Saturday, October 1st, 2168: It was a very good month for Masakado Kokawa in September. The 38-year-old veteran starter for the Baltimore Gothams outpitched everybody -- young and old -- to claim the Continental League Pitcher of the Month award earlier today.

Kokawa ran up a 4-0 record in his 5 starts during the month. In 35 innings he fanned 15 and recorded a 2.06 ERA.

Kokawa has a 10-9 season record so far. In 30 starts, he has fanned 104 batters in 176.1 innings with a 4.64 ERA.


Martel RL Winner, Top Hurler in September
Saturday, October 1st, 2168: The #1 pitcher this past month in the Republic League was Lucien Martel of the Colorado Rancheros. He worked the hitters over real good, finishing September with a superb 4-0 record and a 3.09 ERA.

The Rancheros star made 6 starts and surrendered 35 hits in 43.2 innings. He struck out 35 and walked 10.

Martel has made 31 starts, tossed 220.2 innings, struck out 145 batters and walked 48. His record is 9-8 with a 3.59 ERA and he has limited other teams to a .288 batting average.

CL Selects Rookie of the Month
Saturday, October 1st, 2168: In September, José Guzmán had an exceptional month at the plate and hit his way to the Continental League Rookie of the Month award.

Last month the 27-year-old Brooklyn left fielder played in 26 games and hit .302 with 7 doubles, no triples and 2 home runs. Guzmán also scored 13 times and drove in 14 runs.

So far this season Guzmán has gotten 115 hits in 450 at-bats for a .256 batting average with 14 home runs. His stats include 72 RBIs and 50 runs scored. He has played in 137 games.

Saturday, October 1st, 2168: Lorenzo Vázquez sure isn't playing like the rookie he is. The 24-year-old center fielder for Chico is rapping the ball like a seasoned veteran in the Republic League and today he took home the Rookie of the Month Award for his effort.

In September, Vázquez compiled a .289 batting average. He drove in 6 runs, hit 2 home runs and scored 12 times.

This season in 152 games, Vázquez has hit at a .265 clip with 166 hits, 11 home runs, 48 RBIs and 77 runs scored.
