Continental League Selects April's Best Batter

It was a successful month for Max Weston of Washington. He won the Continental League Best Batter Trophy for April.

Weston batted .356 average, hit 10 home runs, drove in 20 runs, scored 16 times and compiled a .404 on-base percentage.


RL's Top Hitter Announced

José Grafals had quite a month with the bat in April and the Spring left fielder was crowned Republic League Batter of the Month for his outstanding efforts.

To win the honor, he batted .333 with 26 hits, 6 home runs, 19 RBIs and 13 runs scored. He also drew 12 walks to post a .424 on-base percentage.

Zamora Picks up CL Monthly Pitching Honor
Thursday, May 1st, 2104
Despite the number of years he's been in the league, Enrique Zamora still gets excited when he puts together a quality stretch like he had in April. The 34-year-old starter for Plantana was named Continental League Pitcher of the Month earlier today.

He collected 3 wins and no losses with 19 strikeouts in his 4 starts, putting up a fine 0.70 ERA in 25.2 innings of work.


April's #1 Hurler Announced: Pistone Wins Award

Etienne Pistone has been around the league long enough to know that relievers are often overlooked. That has never stopped him from doing what he does best -- and he did it extremely well in April and stole away with the Republic League Pitcher of the Month award.

The Wildcats bullpen ace collected 4 saves and 16 strikeouts in 12 innings, holding the opposition to a .209 average and posting a 1.50 ERA and a 3-0 record.

Rookie Wiz Gets April Award in CL

The top-ranked Continental League rookie in April was Washington's first baseman Man-yoon Kim.

Last month he played in 22 games and hit .328 with 3 doubles, no triples, and 1 home run. Kim also scored 4 times and drove in 10 runs.


Republic League Names Rookie of Month
Thursday, May 1st, 2104
Youngster Ignacio De La Cruz emerged as the latest Republic League Rookie of the Month today. The young man from Maricopa deserved the honor, batting .307 with 2 home runs and 10 RBI. Is the month of April a harbinger of things to come or just a fluke? We'll find out someday, but for now, we'll just let De La Cruz enjoy the limelight.

Luján Snares CL Top Batter Award in May

Havana Banana Sluggers 25-year-old right fielder Rafael Luján hit his way to a .330 batting average and the Continental League Batter of the Month award in May.

He had 7 home runs, 14 RBIs and 21 runs scored for the month.

So far this season Luján has gotten 53 hits in 194 at-bats for a .273 batting average with 11 home runs. His stats include 23 RBIs and 34 runs scored. He has played in 50 games.


RL's Best Batter Selected

Mauro Sandoval battered Republic League pitchers all May and wound up taking home the Batter of the Month Award.

"I've been around FOOL-X long enough to know you really have to work hard day in and day out to be able to put up this kind of consistency," the 34-year-old Sandoval told reporters. "I put in a lot of work, even on the days I might not take the field, and it's always nice when everything comes together for me like it did this last month."

In 28 games, Sandoval hit .336 with 8 home runs, 27 RBIs and scored 18 runs.

This year Sandoval has hit at a .313 clip with 60 hits, 12 home runs, 35 RBIs and 28 runs scored.

CL Pitcher of the Month Goes to Johnston

It doesn't happen often, but it did in May. A reliever, Ed Johnston, is the recipient of the Continental League Pitcher of the Month award.

The Mullets bullpen ace starred with 6 saves in 11 relief appearances with a 4-0 record, logging 11.1 innings, 6 strikeouts, 6 walks and a 0.79 ERA.

To date, his season stats show Johnston has 13 saves with a 4-0 mark and 0.83 ERA.


May's Best Starter Named in RL

Juan Luna's been around the league long enough to appreciate the honor he received today. After going 4-1 in May, the 30-year-old Ann Arbor hurler has been named Republic League Pitcher of the Month.

He fanned 39 in 43.2 innings, logged an ERA of 1.85 and allowed opponents to hit .192 against him.

This year Luna has a 6-3 record with a 3.39 ERA.

Gonzáles Voted CL's #1 Rookie

The premier Continental League rookie in May was Omaha's left fielder Manuel Gonzáles.

Last month he played in 28 games and hit .284 with 2 doubles, 2 triples, and 3 home runs. Gonzáles also scored 16 times and drove in 19 runs.

Thus far this year Gonzáles is hitting .249 with 5 home runs, 28 RBIs and 28 runs scored.


RL Selects Rookie Star of the Month

Ignacio De La Cruz earned May's Rookie of the Month honors in the Republic League for last month's performance. The boyish Maricopa third baseman might be wet behind the ears, but he's proving that he has what it takes to play at this level.

De La Cruz hit .264 with 1 home run, 12 RBIs and 9 runs scored this past month on his way to winning the award.

Currently De La Cruz is hitting .282 and has collected 3 home runs, 22 RBIs and scored 19 times, while playing in 48 games.

Orton Wins CL Batter of the Month

In the last year of his deal with Manchester, Glenn Orton has created some waves by winning June's Continental League Batter of the Month title today.

He put up a solid .299 batting average with 13 home runs, 25 RBIs and 23 runs scored. He also worked CL pitchers for 10 walks and a .387 on-base percentage.

If he keeps churning out numbers like these, the 33-year-old is sure to draw some attention, when contract time rolls around.

This season Orton has hit at a .257 clip with 54 RBIs, 22 home runs and 43 runs scored. He has played in 76 games.


Portland's Holland Collects June Batting Honor

June was a very productive month for Forrest Holland, and today the Portland right fielder was rewarded with the Republic League Batter of the Month honors.

He clobbered enemy hurlers for a .392 average, 10 home runs, and 30 RBIs and scored 24 runs.

This year Holland has collected a .352 batting average to date with 113 hits in 321 at-bats, 56 RBIs, 17 home runs and scored 47 times. He has played in 75 games.

Brewer Named Top CL Hurler

Veteran Tom Brewer put together quite a successful stretch in June for the St Louis Hops, earning himself the Continental League Pitcher of the Month award.

Brewer racked up a 4-0 record in 6 starts, posting a 1.99 ERA over 45.1 innings and striking out 26.

On his stats sheet for the year Brewer shows a 10-2 record, 15 starts, 105.1 innings, 63 strikeouts and a 3.25 ERA.


Castillo Stands Out, Choice for Best Pitcher

Freddy Castillo nailed down June's Republic League Pitcher of the Month award today, adding pressure on Spring to get a deal done before the 32-year-old becomes a free agent.

Castillo seems unfazed by the talk. "We get a deal done or we don't," he told reporters, "I'm not worrying about next year. Worrying about next year isn't what wins awards, you know?"

He fashioned a 5-1 record, reeled off 46 strikeouts, worked 41.2 innings and held batters to a .261 average for the month as he posted a 2.38 ERA.

On his stats sheet this season Castillo shows a 8-6 record, 16 starts, 108 innings, 128 strikeouts and a 2.33 ERA.

June's Premier Rookie Named by CL

Jeff Duncan's eyes seem to light up whenever he sees the baseball. The young Manchester right fielder has been hitting everything in sight for the better part of a month.

In June he was voted the Rookie of the Month Award.

During the month he hit .330 with 4 doubles, 3 triples and 6 home runs. Duncan also scored 18 times and drove in 19 runs.

This year Duncan has hit at a .286 clip with 33 RBIs, 9 home runs and 39 runs scored.


António Trujillo Triumphs in RL Rookie Vote

In June, António Trujillo knocked Republic League pitchers all over the ballpark all month long and put up numbers good enough to be voted the Rookie of the Month.

Last month the 27-year-old Portland shortstop played in 22 games and hit .347 with 1 double, 1 triple and 3 home runs. Trujillo also scored 11 times and drove in 14 runs.

Looking at his present stats, Trujillo has compiled a .295 batting average in 62 games with a .335 on-base percentage, while hitting 8 home runs and driving in 33 runs.

Nothing is for certain about the 2104 FOOL-X All-Star Game. It might be dominated by top-notch pitching performances. Or it could turn into a home run derby. Who knows? Continental League Picks July's Best Batter

The top hitter in the Continental League in July was Plantana center fielder Miguel Sánchez.

He was selected the Batter of the Month after batting .379, hitting 11 home runs, scoring 24 runs and driving in 31.

This season Sánchez is hitting .303 with 125 hits, 22 home runs, 71 RBIs, scored 79 runs and played in 101 games.


Waikiki Right Fielder RL's Best Batter in July

When guys like Waikiki's Mauro Sandoval win Batter of the Month awards, it just makes you feel good. In a productive July, the longtime Republic League veteran toyed with opposing pitchers all month long, collecting 32 hits in 97 at-bats.

The veteran right fielder hit for a .330 batting average and collected 8 home runs, 27 RBIs and 21 runs scored.

This year Sandoval is batting .325 with 28 home runs. He has scored 65 runs and driven in 90.

CL Announces July's Best Starter

Chris Storey is the latest Continental League Pitcher of the Month trophy winner. The St Louis starter sparkled on the diamond time and again last month and finished July with an outstanding 5-0 record.

In 6 starts he tossed 42.2 innings, posted 34 strikeouts, and sported a 2.53 ERA.

Checking out his stats for the year, Storey has racked up 12 wins and 5 losses in 21 starts, 3.98 ERA and struck out 125 batters in 133.1 innings.


RL's Top Pitcher in July Is Pomerleau

July's top hurler was Eliott Pomerleau of Portland. He shackled Republic League hitters the entire month and claimed the Pitcher of the Month award with a sparkling 5-0 mark.

The 22-year-old Pomerleau added 36 strikeouts in 42 innings and 9 walks to his season record and compiled a 1.71 ERA. Other clubs hit .191 against him.

His record this season is 11-5 in 21 starts and Pomerleau has a 3.00 ERA.

Manchester Center Fielder July's Premier Rookie

A veritable toddler to the Continental League, Gilbert Cleveland just sewed up the Rookie of the Month trophy for July.

Over the past month the 25-year-old center fielder for Manchester hit .329 with 28 hits, 6 home runs and 15 runs batted in. He also logged 8 walks and compiled a .389 on-base percentage.

Presently Cleveland is batting .271 and has collected 17 home runs, 38 RBIs, .340 OBP and scored 58 runs.


De La Cruz Chosen RL's Best Newcomer

Ignacio De La Cruz is still a bit shy, but then, who could blame the newest Republic League Rookie of the Month honoree? He hasn't been around the league long enough to fully know the ropes yet, despite the fact that he's putting up veteran-like numbers.

In July the Maricopa hitter tagged opposing pitching for a .300 average with 27 hits, 1 home run and 7 RBIs.

In this current campaign De La Cruz is hitting at a .272 clip with 5 home runs and 34 RBIs.

Luis Mateo Named Best CL Batter in August

Luis Mateo received the Continental League Batter of the Month trophy earlier today for his efforts at the plate this last month.

"He might be getting older," Havana's manager told reporters, "But he's been around long enough to know what it takes to put a stretch such as this together... and he doesn't keep that to himself. He's always talking to the younger guys in the clubhouse helping 'em any way they'll let him. Luis's value to our team goes farther than the numbers he puts up on the field."

To win the honor Mateo put up a .387 batting average, 9 home runs, 25 RBIs and scored 23 times in August.

This season Mateo is batting .287 with 145 hits, 20 home runs, 63 RBIs, 45 walks, .350 OBP and has scored 70 runs. He has played in 131 games.


RL's #1 Batter Announced

Though his face is weathered and his hands are calloused, Mauro Sandoval can still get it done in FOOL-X. In fact, the 34-year-old right fielder for Waikiki was named the Republic League Batter of the Month today after putting up an impressive performance at the plate.

In August he batted .347 with 11 home runs, 24 RBIs and 27 runs scored.

For the season Sandoval has produced 167 hits in 506 at-bats for a .330 average with 39 home runs and gotten on base at a .375 clip.

Martínez Top CL Starter in August

Juan Martínez really strutted his stuff in August with 4 wins and 1 loss and walked off with the Pitcher of the Month Award in the Continental League. The Omaha starter was good news for his club, but bad news for the opposition.

In 38.2 innings of work, Martínez limited opposing batters to 32 base hits and a .221 batting average. He totaled 33 strikeouts, issued 7 walks and had a 2.09 ERA.

This season Martínez has a 15-8 mark in 26 starts with a 2.64 ERA. He has given up 146 hits in 170.1 innings, struck out 148 and issued 29 walks. Opposing clubs have compiled a .227 batting average against him.

Man-yoon Kim earned the Continental League Rookie of the Month award for his fine play in August.

The 26-year-old Washington first baseman batted .389, smacked 7 home runs and drove in 16 runs. He also tagged 28 hits, scored 18 runs and picked up 9 walks for a .457 on-base percentage.

Kim is hitting .312 this season with 10 home runs, 47 RBIs and 48 runs scored. He has 109 hits in 349 at-bats.

Guzmán Awarded September's CL Top Bat Prize

Prospective free agents love to have hot streaks and Eduardo Guzmán is no exception. The London second baseman capped off a fine month by hauling in Batter of the Month honors in the Continental League.

In September Guzmán hit .309 with 8 home runs, 24 RBIs and 17 runs scored.

Currently Guzmán is batting .262 with 26 home runs, 102 RBIs and 85 runs scored.


Dugas Takes Home RL Top Batter Award

Seasoned by several years of professional experience, 28-year-old Corey Dugas put together a solid offensive month for Las Vegas and was crowned September's top batter in the Republic League.

He batted .385 with 1 home run, 9 RBIs and 22 runs scored.



To date this season Dugas is hitting .301 with 7 home runs.

Omaha's Stanley CL Top Pitcher

September was a very good month for Tucker Stanley of the Omaha Bees. He held opposing hitters for a .162 average and took home the Continental League Pitcher of the Month award.

In 5 starts he claimed a 4-0 record as he put up a 1.42 ERA and struck out 34 in 38 innings.

This season Stanley has registered 15 wins and 11 losses in 32 starts with a 3.38 ERA.


RL Selects Rosales September's Best Starter

Lúcio Rosales really put his best foot forward in September with 4 wins and 1 loss and walked off with the Pitcher of the Month honors in the Republic League. When he got the start for the Las Vegas Wildcats, it was good news for his club, but bad news for the opposition.

In 41.2 innings of work, Rosales limited opposing batters to 26 base hits and a .177 batting average. He notched 18 strikeouts, issued 8 walks and had a 2.16 ERA.

To date Rosales is 15-11 in 31 starts with a 3.63 ERA and has 121 strikeouts in 205.2 innings.

First Baseman Nabs CL Rookie Award

The batter wants to "hit 'em where they ain't." And that is just what Skip Lucas did all month long to net the Continental League Rookie of the Month Award.

In September he slapped 21 hits in 66 at-bats for a .318 batting average. Lucas also racked up 6 home runs, 17 RBIs, and 11 runs scored.

This year Lucas is hitting .296 with 22 home runs and 78 RBIs in 135 games played. He also boasts an OBP of .380 with 54 walks and 63 runs scored.


Great Month Gets RL Top Rookie Trophy

It was an excellent month for Lee Gill. He really swung into action! The right fielder for the Maricopa Rattlers was named September's best newcomer in the Republic League.

He captured the honor by hitting .324 with 23 hits, 2 home runs, 10 RBIs and 11 runs scored.

In his stats this season, Gill has posted a batting average of .254 with 109 hits in 429 at-bats, 3 home runs and 38 RBIs. He has also scored 42 runs, walked 31 times and compiled a .308 OBP.
