NFL Week 5 Thread

Starting the week with a barn burning match-up, Buffalo at Cleveland.

The Browns look like giant turds out there. Probably the reason they've never worn all brown in the history of the franchise.

Hoyer left the game midway through the first quarter with what looked like some kind of leg injury. Weeden is in.

I think I heard the collective sigh in Cleveland from here.

Nice punt return for touchdown by Travis Benjamin. Cleveland up 17-10 after falling behind by 10 points early on.

Who do you turn to when all your WR's keep getting banged up? New England Patriots sign veteran Austin Collie - ESPN Boston

No way this ends badly! Also, the "Zach Sudfeld is a sleeper fantasy TE" predictions are all officially done, as he was released today.

NOOOOOOOOOOOOOO! I love Collie. Remember seeing him at Colts camp. He was a rookie, but he stayed on the field to train when everyone left except Peyton. Impressed the heck out of me. I hope he does well, even in New England. Before his concussions, he was a very productive wide receiver. I thought he was our best 3rd down receiver.

Signed Hoyer as a bye week fill-in in my 2QB fantasy league. Got 4 minutes out of him.

Weeden kept the ship together later in the game, but a couple of great punt returns by Benjamin really kept the Browns together when everything could have fallen apart.

And their run game has essentially been terrible during those games.

Josh Gordon coming back and giving them a 2nd legitimate receiving threat has been huge too.

Saints have had problems going into Chicago to play. I hope that they win, but I expect that they will lose a close, low-scoring, game.

Bears defense is old and lacking a pass rush, and has been prone to the big play this year. Fortunate turnovers and some idiocy by opposing teams is what their defense has been relying on.

It's gonna be a shootout, unless Cutler does his best Bad Rex impression again - in which case, big blowout.

I have no idea why I have a soft spot for the Browns, but I do. I like it when they are winning.

I don't think the Richardson trade has a direct effect on this streak, but maybe it's a collective thing with them. The world thought it would lead to them tanking...and maybe pride is kicking in to some extent? That and I think the Browns finally have some leadership that can get them in the right direction. At any rate, they were damn entertaining last night.

Is there a life size cut out of the owner in the locker room, where they remove an article of clothing after each win?

When I was watching that play where Manuel got hurt, I was screaming in my head from him to get out of bounds after he made the first down... I could just see that hit coming.

I am in a fantasy league that has defensive players and I will tell you that Agent Kiko Alonso Mosely is a beast.

I still think the Browns success is going to unjustly get tied to Richardson being gone when the biggest issue was what was going on with the passing game. I can't imagine Weeden being the guy in the end, but at least he has the rest of the year to prove he can play.

I guess they don't want to see playoff football in Cleveland, during the winter.

According to ESPN, EJ Manuel is out "a few weeks" with a lcl sprain. They are actively looking for a QB that can start for them October 13 vs Cincinnati. If you know someone who is interested in the position (I'm looking at you Josh Freeman), send your resume to:

Doug Whaley
Ralph Wilson Stadium
1 Bills Drive
Orchard Park, NY 14217

Browns still have Stafford, Rodgers, and Brady on their schedule, I am going to be very interested to see if their defense can continue to play well against better offensive opponents.

Is this entry level or are they looking for someone with experience? I have a BA in Political Science and have played 300+ seasons of FOF.

Depends a lot on the offense. If Hoyer hadn't gotten hurt, I'd say they'd have a shot. The defense will struggle, though, if the offense can't keep some of the pressure off. Surely Weeden has to realize this is his last chance to impress anyone, not just the Browns.

I wouldn't tie it to him being gone, more that they don't miss him at all. And I know it's only two games and with a brand new team in the middle of the season, but he hasn't had a performance yet in Indy that has the Browns missing him.

Very surprised it hasn't caused serious injuries by now.

At the Colts game and they look terrible. Everything is off. Luck and his receivers are on different pages. Reggie has dropped two passes. Hell, even the cheerleaders tried to run onto the field during the Seahawks' extra point. Might be a long day...

How is that not a safety? They don't blow the play dead, the back gets away and runs further into the end zone before finally being tackled, then they blow it dead.
