Just saw Murray's suit.

He looks like he fell outta somebody's Easter basket.

Looks like Eli won't be the only person exiting NY in the fairly near future.

I like Jones a lot, but to me you take Allen in that spot and hope to get Jones at 17. Such a reach.

The only positive is this signals Eli is officially done after this year

Fitted caps and jerseys with numbers. A conspiracy theorist would think this is staged.

Sounds like he was rising pretty fast so maybe not. Still don’t like the pick though. Long delivery, slow reads and some divided opinion on whether his arm is even above average. Plus everyone talking him up for playing at Duke with questionable talent but on the flip side he was coached by Cutliffe every day. I’m not sure I see the upside for a top 10 pick.

They've run segments showing the dude that's there putting names and numbers on jerseys.

When was the last time you bought a fitted cap? They're all that relaxed fit stuff now where they fit anyone pretty much.

The one good thing about it is he won't play this year, barring an injury to Eli, so he has a year to learn and develop. The Giants will also suck next season, so he will have 2 draft classes worth of high picks to surround him with.

Like I said, I really like him as a player, watched him a decent amount, I just hate where they took him as there were impact players on defense still left, and they could have either had him at 17 or made a deal for Rosen

Fant to Green bay to make more history in this draft. 1st time 2 TEs from one team both went in the 1st round of the same draft.

Off hand, anybody know who the highest drafted career backup might be?

I don't mean the total busts or the 6 games/2 starts guys, I mean, the ones who basically make an extended career approaching double-digit seasons as a clipboard holder.

I think we may have seen a contender emerge tonight.

Raiders.

If you think the QB is the guy you need to take him. The position is just too important. Is it possible Haskins is better? Maybe, but I think you take him if he is your guy

RG3? Byron Leftiwich or Matt Leinart? Idk, it's tough to find guys drafted top 20 who didn't at least get a year or two as a starter that weren't out of the league after their rookie contract. (At last in the modern era.) But it's also pretty hard not to see Jones getting an extended time to play in 2020-21.

Hackenberg has to be the highest who will never even be good enough to stick around for a few years as a backup surely?

I agree with the Raiders being the biggest reach. I don’t like the Giants pick but if you need a QB you take your guy. The Raiders passed up 5 or 6 higher rated defensive linemen and almost certainly could have got the same player 10 or 15 picks later.

I pondered that very question (as soon as I stopped LOL'ing at the NY pick). Raiders overpicked the likely slot by more positions so I think that gives them the nod for "bigger reach". That said, I think they get more from him (tho not 1/4 caliber) than the Giants do from their own reach.

So bigger reach but better pick?

Eh, I don’t think having a burner like Brown running around while Jackson keeps plays alive and throws things up in the air is the worst thing in the world.

What an incredibly underwhelming return for the Raiders. Turned Mack and Cooper into two decent players at non premium positions. Sweat at least would have had a shot at being a star and maybe a bit of a replacement but they got outmanouvered.

Draft Finder Query Results | Pro-Football-Reference.com

John Reaves Stats | Pro-Football-Reference.com

Seems like a decent option. 14th pick in 1972. 9 years in the NFL with only 17 starts. Seems like a couple years he wasnt on a roster, and he spent 3 years in the USFL before finishing up for the Bucs.

Tommy Maddox logged 9 NFL seasons over 13 years, with a break in the middle to sell insurance apparently, 36 starts, though he appeared in almost 100 games.

Between the concussion BS and the NFL teams not giving a shit about the type of people they're drafting into the league, I just might have to give up football. There's no morals. Winning and money is all that seems to matter.

I guess you could say that about a lot of things.

A group of folks I work with who are all big Colts fan paid a premium to hang out at one of the popular northside bars to watch the draft. The Colts traded out of the first round.

Some grumpy people walking around this morning.

Not the answer to the question, but Andrew Ware seems like the most depressing top 10 drafted QB of the modern area (aside from Art Schlichter.) Drafted #7, 6 career starts.

Rex Grossman is another good candidate, but he did have three years where he was clearly the #1 in his ten-year career.

I'm trying to be fair to the Raiders. Which situation would you rather have?

Situation 1:
Khalil Mack (then signs 6-141 mil)
Amari Cooper (pending extension)
3rd round (#66)
5th round (#141)
2020 2nd round
2020 5th round

Situation 2:
WR Antonio Brown (3-$50 mil)
RB Josh Jacobs (#24)
S Jonathan Abram (#27)
6th round (#196)
2020 1st round
2020 3rd round

I'm not sure it's that lopsided. Clearly Mack is the prize here, but Brown > Cooper. So it comes down to if you think the best RB in the draft, best S in the draft, Antonio Brown and a 2020 1st is a fair deal for Mack, Cooper, a 2nd and a 5th. I'd rather have the Mack side, but it's not a complete fleecing - especially when you consider the money Mack and Cooper got (will get).
