The last time I had a conversation with a lady about porn it ended in her recommending I watch the work of Molly Cavalli.

Current album is double platinum in Canada, gold in the U.S.
Previous four albums combined for 26 platinum awards in Canada and 20x platinum in the U.S.

I'm gonna take a shot in the dark & think that has something to do with the booking.

I think it is tangentially related to mullets.

There are plenty are far better talented musicians in Canada. Matthew Good, for example.

I forget where I saw this the other day, but if fits with the recent discussion:

If you play Nickleback songs backwards, you hear satanic phrases.
If you play Nickleback songs normally, you hear even worse things: Nickleback.

Poor Nickleback.

I think I only know of one Nickleback song. It was catchy enough.

Why do people hate them so? Is it only because people don't like their music or are the members of Nickleback jerks/assholes in some way, like the lead singer from Creed?

I haven't noticed anything particular of that sort. I'm sure we could Google up a pull quote or two somewhere that might have been controversial but I don't think it's something that's a remotely prominent part of their image at all.

Success breeds a shitload of jealousy, and while their style definitely isn't everybody's taste, don't underestimate the impact of that either.

I think the closest corollary we have here regarding Nickleback is QuikSand's white hot disdain for Billy Joel.

From my perspective and many of the people I know (online or otherwise) who hate them, it's solely due to the fact that 2 or 3 or 10 of their popular songs are literally carbon copies of each other. I remember hearing a "new" song of theirs one day a long, long time ago and I was able to sing the "this is how you remind me" verses/chorus (or hum along anyway) over it, and they were virtually identical. I think the fact that a band can continually pump out regurgitations of the same songs and have people plop down their money for them seemingly oblivious to the fact that they just re-recorded the song you bought 2 years ago, AND the fact that they are so successful doing it, makes people hate them. AND their fans, for that matter.

And look, I hated Metallica for about a decade for doing the same thing on Load. They wrote a couple of songs copying the grunge style, they ripped off Danzig on another song, they wrote one of the worst songs ever, Ronnie, as some form of rip-off of Jeremy, and then shit out a carbon copy of Enter Sandman called King Nothing, complete with what must have been an inside joke "off to never neverland" reference - which, in fact, was pretty clever since it doubled as both a reference to Enter Sandman and Michael Jackson, who the song was about. But structurally, that song was nothing more than a variation on Enter Sandman. And it pissed me off that they recorded it.

So I don't really care who you are, I can't stand that kind of crap.

Got it. I didn't know that they sung that "this is how you remind me" song. So I now know of two Nickleback songs.

Somewhere along the way I went off on at least one tangent about NB being the ultimate formula band of the modern era ... but that it's a very successful and, for me, often entertaining formula.

They're not producing classics to the degree of, say, Iron Maiden ... but then again neither is hardly anyone else so it's tough for me to hold that against them.

One of the things NB has going for them -- indeed one of the reasons they've put up the numbers they've managed -- is that they know how to capture so many diverse listeners at least once in a year.

The latest single, Lullaby is about as sappy as you're going to find. Hot AC to AC song, once again a pure formula track (I knew the girl was gonna die within the first 15 secs of the video). Nice enough little song if you're into that kind of thing even if it's not my own taste. Simultaneously they're in the top 10 of both the Rock and Active Rock charts with This Means War. And that followed a fairly good arena rock drinking song (Bottoms Up). About all they haven't done is a country track (and I suspect that'll happen eventually ala Bon Jovi), an R&B track and a purely alt track.

There was a sequence back in 2005 that was an even better example. They went from Photograph to Animals as back to back singles. If you've heard the two songs, you know the tremendous leap in the material that represents.

Another thing that always added to their credibility with me was the song Side of a Bullet. That cut was a tribute to Dimebag Darrell ... and the solo was sent to the band by Dime's girlfriend and his brother. You get the Pantera seal of approval, you're not all bad as far as I'm concerned.

edit to add: I think the most legitimate criticism of them I can think of is that, because of the very intentional diversity they've shown, we really don't know who the band is musically. I don't have a real strong sense of what they would choose to sound like if they were guaranteed the exact same success & profit no matter what.

My son plays a lot of League of Legends. To play that game, a player constantly clicks the mouse to either direct the avatar in a certain direction, or attacking a tower, etc. In other words, he is constantly click-click-clicking for 30-50 minutes per game. Does anyone know of a mouse with a "silent click" (either permanent or as an option)? There are times he chases Mrs Tyke or I out of the room with the constant distraction. Thanks for any info!

PS: Yes, we do have headphones, but that's besides the point...

I've noticed that my right eye kind of gets out of whack sometimes when I am at work looking at the monitor there. It is like my right eye wanders or something. Some days it happens a lot more than others.

My wife told me today that it happens a lot when we are talking and she is close enough to see it. I have never really noticed it any other time besides at work. Ever since she mentioned it, I notice it all of the time now and it is freaking me out.

Found a strange bump beneath the surface of my skin (it doesn't protrude, can't see it) in the area just above my collarbone, to the left of my neck. Doesn't hurt, a little discomfort if I lay on my left side and stretch my left arm out under the pillow as I typically do when I sleep.

Any medical thoughts?

My eldest son scored all 3 goals in his team's 3-2 U8 game. He's got four after two matches. Is it to early to edit him in as a youth prospect in FM? Very proud of him. Thank god he got his mother's side for the athletic genes.

So I took Jake (5) out to breakfast while we were out getting gas for the mower. I got eggs, hashbrowns and toast, and so did he. He likes his eggs scrambled - and mine were over medium. Anyway, I dip my toast in my eggs and notice he's watching me. And then he does the same. Obviously he doesn't get anything on his toast like I did, so he dipped it into his hashbrowns and ketchup. And looks at me and says .. "Daddy, that was just your daily reminder that you're my role model, and I watch everything you do. So please try your best to set a good example for me". --- OK, so maybe he didn't say that, but - it was what I heard.

Just a continuation of a cool weekend for me.

Saturday, went to the Padres/Phillies game where the Padres actually beat Roy Halladay. Then later that night, hung out with the very cool Robert Griffith and then just now had about a 15/20 minute conversation with Seth Green and on Friday, I am going to the Padres/Giants game. Oh, also finally got my passport yesterday, which was the last thing I was waiting for before I go on my trip to London in a couple of weeks.

Sigh,

I started in August for this company and I have outperformed every sales rep they have ever had. I am only 300K away from my quota and we are just finishing up April. I am on pace to shatter that and blow the quota out of the water.

I am now losing motivation though...they are dragging their feet paying me my commission.

Companies can be so stupid. I've always said, I want to have to pay my sales people a million dollar commission....because if I owe them that much, then they are making a ton of money for the organization...

Exactly! I am sitting here going...in the past 4 months I have closed 900K in AV and Video Conferencing business for you, at the margin they are getting...I am making them a lot of money..

Add into the fact that after I sell the job I have to run it as a PM, then I am severely underpaid.

The former coworkers at my last company have been calling me to try and get me back out on the road, I don't know if I can do it, I have enjoyed being at home way to much...

Got this gem of an email from my condo association, the city needs to shut the water off.

Quote:
Seattle Public Utilities has notified XXXXXXXX that there will be a main water shut off in the area, Friday, April 27th, between the hours of 1am and 5am. You will have no water during these hours.

What to expect:

When the water is shut off, you many hear what sounds like “draining” in your walls and ceiling. This is caused by water running out of the system.

When the water is turned back on, it is very likely you will see discolored water - yellow, orange, reddish or brown water. Discolored water comes from internal pipe rust and sediment getting stirred up. When this happens the water is still safe. However, the water may be unappealing. The water should clear on its own, but may take several days.

Avoid running hot water if the cold water is still discolored.
This will minimize filling the hot water tank with turbid water. If you are washing clothes at the time, it is better to stop the cycle while it is full and wait until clean water is available to finish. If you allow the water to empty from the washing machine and go into the spin cycle it is more likely to cause permanent staining to the laundry items.

I highlighted the interesting parts. So basically I may not be able to shower, bath my kid, wash laundry or dishes etc...for several days? Nice.

Dandelion Leaves: The leaves are more nutritious than anything you can buy. They’re higher in beta-carotene than carrots. The iron and calcium content is phenomenal, greater than spinach. You also get vitamins B-1, B-2, B-5, B-6, B-12, C, E, P, and D, biotin, inositol, potassium, phosphorus, magnesium, and zinc by using a tasty, free vegetable that grows on virtually every lawn. The root contains the sugar inulin, plus many medicinal substances.

Highly disappointed in the SNL porno.

Hate that Nissan commercial with the alarms going off with a frigging passion.

I'd like Jose Reyes to start hitting.

I wish RC Pro-Am had a 2 player mode.
