Sometimes I think it'd be fun to be a cop, simply because I'd want to describe various criminal activities to people and finish it off with "That's where I come in. I carry a badge."

Damn. Not where I thought that was going.

Always sucks when your kid is sick. Especially since there's not a bloody thing we can give him aside from coat his chest in menthol rub and dose him with ibuprofen.

It was kinda funny that when we were about to leave he got all excited and decided to tell us the story about when he came home from WWII "You'll love this!" It kinda petered out & was just the story how he took the train home after betting his mom he'd be home for Christmas, then how he got there New Year's Eve & stayed up late before falling asleep. Kinda left you waiting for the punchline that never came.

He hadn't even heard that Michigan won. He looked for the game on the TV in the hospital, but the Big Ten network kept it from the commoners like us.

And when they do die, ask to be there when they close the casket.

When they closed it on my father's mother I realized I was the last person to see her face. That meant a LOT to me. Talk about choking back the tears...

I assumed also being a pall bearer at my mother's mother's funeral would be much the same. When I saw the closed casket I felt robbed & nearly demanded to have it opened back up.

Edit: And so goes my godmother. Rest in Peace.

® Spider & Scorpion Killer a residual product?">

Raid Max® Spider & Scorpion Killer’s residual action kills ants and roaches for up to 12 weeks when sprayed on non-porous surfaces.

Raid Max
® Spider & Scorpion Killer provides no residual effect when used on Black Widow Spiders, other household spiders and Scorpions. These insects must be hit directly with the spray to be killed.

This leaves me confused. If I spray my baseboards and shit will it kill the spiders when they emerge or not?

Edit: Then I see testimonials that say they see dead spiders long after they've sprayed an area. I'm all confused. And I hate spiders.

That doesn't seem that confusing. Seems like "no" for spiders pretty clearly according to the label at least.

Yeah, I guess the wording isn't so much what's confusing as to the fact that I would assume that a spray like that would be intended for control, when in fact it seems as if no control at all is what you'll get.

I will stop hating spiders when they stop spinning webs across my back door, between the driver's door of my car and nearby bushes, between our two cars, across our driveway, or anywhere else that they are hard to see but easy to walk into.

Played my last softball game of the season last night...woke up at 2 am with a fist sized cramp in my thigh...

I was flopping around in pain because it wouldn't stop. I hobbled to where I thought the muscle cream was. I opened it up, went to rub it on my thigh...and realized, man this smells and look at the tube, it was the hairball stuff for my cats...

Could have been RendeR's bottle of anal lube that he keeps nearby. That would have been worse.

It could be a lot worse. She was 88 & had a long, full life. Married 65 years.

In the same funeral home is a 17 year old girl, high school senior & honor student who died this past weekend. Her b'day would have been Monday. Her sister missed their exit on the highway & decided to just back up to it. She lost control & went into traffic. They were hit by a truck. The older sister who was driving was hospitalized with non-life threatening injuries. She now has to live knowing that by not just going to the next exit she killed her sister.

Didn't mean to be a downer.

Maybe this is more suited to this thread... When attempting to be Bruce Willis with a nerf dart & an office chair I found out that being 40 years old and overweight kinda sucks for doing stupid things. (the chair tipped)

Yeah, I think it's been something that's been whispered and insinuated at for a while, what is shocking is the scale of it all and that it could happen where it happened. It's eerily similar to Sandusky when you think about it.

My 11 year old daughter took a line drive to the face last night while pitching rec ball. Thankfully, she was wearing a mask like she always does, so she was shaken up, cried a little, and then struck out the next batter on 3 pitches

So many girls in rec/travel ball don't wear masks - we've already seen a girl lose some teeth on a ball hit to the outfield.

Been playing Slow Pitch mens league this summer and fall and several of the pitchers wear masks...

Woohoo, the new section of Texas 130 opened today! The speed limit on it is 85mph!

Toll road opens, breaking a speed limit barrier - San Antonio Express-News

Definitely going to check it out on my drive home from Houston tomorrow.

In 'Say Anything', was Ioni Skye really all that far out of John Cusack's league?

From a types perspective, yes. Granted, a bookworm girl who had zero social life probably would hook up with the first decent guy who gave her a shot. His issue was he had zero direction so it landed him in with the losers crowd. She gave him direction in sense.

P.S. I don't think they really ended up together but that's one of those fun things to debate.

I get it from a story perspective, but not a casting perspective. If you wanted someone out of his league in 1989 then Nicole Eggert, Elisabeth Shue, Diane Lane, Alyssa Milano, or Jami Gertz would have been better selections. I could see my 1989 high school junior self holding up a boombox playing 'In Your Eyes' to any of them, but not to Ioni Skye.

Is it time for old lady chat? I'd better alert the Drach! Have to say, Jami Gertz looked pretty good last night on The Neighbors (yeah, I know. The kids seem to like it).

Which brings me to the reason I checked in. Chris Jansing is 55? Not. Bad.

So last weekend my cousin and I took his boys to Six Flags Over Texas. His older son is 9 and has ridden the "big" rides before. This was his 6 year old's first trip where he could ride the "big" rides. We started off slow, riding El Sombrero aka the Mexican Hat ride. This one doesn't get more than 15 feet off of the ground.

Next we went to The Conquistador, which is the ship that goes back and forth until you end up about perpendicular to the ground. The youngster loved it. Then we went on La Vibora, which is a kind of bobsled ride. He too loved that one.

So we decided to up the ante and take him on the Shock Wave. At the time it opened it was the tallest roller coaster in the world, and the only one with back to back 360 loops. I rode with the 6 year old. He was real quiet as we began the climb to the top of the hill before the first drop. I told him as we reached the top we'd go slow for a few seconds, then the loops would happen. After we went through the back to back loops, I looked over at him, and he had no expression. No fear, no crying, no happiness, no excitement, nothing. Just a blank stare. He just shut everything down as a self-preservation act. He didn't change the rest of the ride. Once we got off, he said he had a good time, but when we asked him if he wanted to get in line and ride it again, he said no, he'd wait until the next time we went.

I'm pretty sure Nicole Eggert is below Llyod's standards at this point. I will say I went to HS with a girl very much in the Jami Gertz mold. She is an easy pick for lacking sanity in terms of the you pick two of three. Smarts and beauty being the others.

Sure, at this point. But back in 1989? No way. Pumpy is with me on this one.

I don't disagree. I still think a bookworm isn't busting her chops to date a guy who has been classified as a loser.

I forgot to ask my cousin how his son was in the days after. I was about his son's age the first time I rode the Shock Wave, not too long after it opened. I don't think I opened my eyes the entire ride.

I was around 10 years old when the Texas Cliffhanger opened. It was the world's first free-fall ride. After the first time I rode it, I remember having a nightmare that night that felt like I was falling for 10 minutes before I woke up in a cold sweat.
