Friday, July 29th, 2039: Winged Lingerines Shut out Hooligans, Wichers Winner
Richard Wichers had an impressive outing today. He hurled the Ann Arbor Winged Lingerines to a 1-0 shutout victory over the Hammersmith Hooligans, yielding 3 hits with 10 strikeouts and no walks.

"He threw strikes and he was always around the plate," the Hammersmith skipper said. "The ball was doing everything he wanted it to do. We hit some balls hard, but they were all right at the fielders."

So far this season, Wichers has logged a 10-8 record with a 3.87 ERA. He has started 20 games, hurled 125.2 innings and registered 103 strikeouts and 33 walks.

Monday, August 1st, 2039: Garza Wins RL Rookie Award
Almost everyone agreed -- fans, teammates, peers -- and BNN sportwriters, too -- that Pepillo Garza was worthy of the Republic League Rookie of the Month award.

In the month of July the Ann Arbor right fielder was a bigtime threat. The 22-year-old Ann Arbor right fielder played in 23 games and hit .337 with 4 doubles, no triples and 4 home runs. Garza also scored 19 times and drove in 15 runs.

Garza is batting .284 with 23 home runs and 66 RBIs this season.

Monday, August 1st, 2039: July's Best Rookie Honored by CL
José Santos is still a bit shy, but then, who could blame the newest Continental League Rookie of the Month honoree? He hasn't been around the league long enough to fully know the ropes yet, despite the fact that he's putting up veteran-like numbers.

In July the Newark hitter tagged opposing pitching for a .337 average with 32 hits, 1 home run and 7 RBIs.

This season in 99 games Santos is batting .262 with 4 home runs, 25 RBIs and has scored 59 times.

Taking a quick break to check on my daughter (2-3 minutes) and give folks time to post up players they want to see. I'll put up all of the stats in about 5 minutes.

two things i've noticed (i just got in)
1. Tough year for rookies in the CL...I can't believe Caulfield hasn't one a ROM award yet even though he's been hanging out near of the top of the wins.
2. I can see Cuevas is a full fledged Hyannis Patriot yet as he's still wearing the assassin uniform.

That is normal. I don't rerun the photos until after the full season sim. So the uniforms in their photos don't update until after tonight. (It makes the daily files much larger if I do it daily.)

Baltimore Rookie pitches a no hitter!

Monday, August 8th, 2039: Hernández Gets No-Hitter Against Newark
Baltimore is abuzz in the wake of a masterful no-hitter by Oliver Hernández against the Newark Terriers. In a dominating 9-0 performance at Charm Ballpark, the 26-year-old hurler had 3 strikeouts and 2 walks. Not one batter managed a hit.

The Newark manager said after the game, "You could tell early on it was going to be a long day for us. He made us look real bad. He was that good. And still going strong at the end of the game."

"Yeah, this was a special day for me," said Hernández. "I had my good stuff and good movement... good location, too. Even when I was off and made a mistake, I got away with it today."

Currently Hernández has a 10-13 won-lost record in 27 starts with a 5.67 ERA. He also has 107 strikeouts in 155.2 innings.

According to Marcos Rodríguez of the Boston Settlers, "There are three important elements in pitching success: location, location, and location." He told his pitching philosophy to sportswriters in the postgame interview after his 8-0 victory over Apex.

His manager echoed his comments, saying, "He hit his spots time and time again."

Friday, September 2nd, 2039: Dawson Hitless, Streak Ends at 27
His 27-game hitting streak is over. Frank Dawson failed to get a hit today against the Hartford Harpooners and had his consecutive-game hitting streak broken. The 32-year-old Rebels first baseman went 0-for-6 in his club's 4-3 victory over the Hartford at Rebels Ballpark.

This season Dawson has hit 35 home runs and posted a .337 batting average.

Monday, September 5th, 2039: #300 for Jiménez
It was a great day for Xavier Jiménez, but not a good one for his Hyannis Patriots. The 35-year-old third baseman reached a personal milestone with his 300th career homer, but it wasn't enough to beat the Hammersmith Hooligans, who came away with a 9-5 victory. Jiménez finished the day with 1 hit, 1 run batted in and 2 runs scored.

"Well, I've conceded the fact that you can't will yourself to hit a home run," he said. "I tried hard for the last few days. It was getting to be embarrassing with the crowd standing up every time I came to the plate."

To date Jiménez has a .287 career batting average and has totaled 300 home runs.

With 36 games to play, I only need to win 9 to exceed last year's win total. Huzzah.

Wednesday, September 7th, 2039: Razor-Sharp Rodgers Blanks Tokyo
On the hill John Rodgers stood out and was the master of the moment as he blanked Tokyo 13-0.

At bat the Cyclones floundered, fizzled and failed to score.

"His fastball moves and he mixes in the slider," the Tokyo manager said. "He kept us off-balance."

The Edmonton pitcher hurled a 4-hit shutout in an exceptional effort. He gave up 1 walk and had 11 strikeouts.

"I felt good," Rodgers said. "That's probably the best fastball I've had all season. I was able to locate it pretty well. They were super-aggressive, which helped me."

Looking at his season stats, Rodgers has won 14 and lost 10, collecting 207 strikeouts and 51 walks in 242.2 innings with a 2.93 ERA.

Monday, September 19th, 2039: Che on Fire: Burns Apex with 3 HR
Cong Che was sending souvenirs to the sun gods all game long in the Baltimore 8-3 triumph over Apex, launching not one, not two, but three home runs into the stands. Nobody who was at Charm Ballpark will forget this home run outburst anytime soon.

The Baltimore right fielder went 4-5, rung up 7 RBIs and scored 3 runs on his record-setting day.

He told the press corps after his three home run binge, "One homer's good, two's great, three's out of sight. I can't wait until tomorrow's game. I really feel good at the plate."

C. Che hit an RBI single in the 1st, struck out in the 3rd, hit a solo-shot off D. Taylor in the 5th, hit a three-run home run off L. Griffin in the 6th and hit a two-run home run off J. Chaput in the 8th.

Thus far this year Che is batting .278 with 32 home runs, 107 RBIs and 91 runs scored.

Saturday, October 1st, 2039: Ann Arbor Starter September's Best Pitcher
Whether Tamrat Chelanga stays in Ann Arbor beyond this season remains to be seen, but while he's here he's making the most of it. In September the 32-year-old certainly pulled out all the stops by winning the Republic League Pitcher of the Month award.

He put up some fancy numbers with a 4-1 record and and an ERA of 2.89. In 37.1 innings he struck out 36, surrendered 37 hits, 8 walks and proved to be a solid performer in 5 starts last month.

In 2039 Chelanga has a 11-11 record with a 4.84 ERA.

Saturday, October 1st, 2039: Lemieux Gets CL #1 Pitcher Trophy
It was a very good month for Renaud Lemieux in September. The 35-year-old veteran starter for the Napa Valley Winemakers outpitched everybody -- young and old -- to claim the Continental League Pitcher of the Month award earlier today.

Lemieux ran up a 6-0 record in his 7 starts during the month. In 58.1 innings he fanned 46 and recorded a 1.23 ERA.

In 2039, Lemieux has chalked up 20 wins and 10 losses in 38 starts with 209 strikeouts in 268.1 innings and a 2.82 ERA.
