Thursday, July 6th, 2045: Pichette Goes Yard 3 Times
Gaël Pichette of New York slugged three home runs against the Ann Arbor at New York Grounds. Nevertheless, he couldn't win the game all by himself. The Winged Lingerines spoiled his record-setting day by defeating the Heroes 14-11.

His manager said afterward, "The loss puts a damper on his outstanding game, but Gaël still will get his name in the league record book. That is some consolation. But knowing him, he would have preferred a win."

Commenting on his explosive day, the New York first baseman said, "The first two I got all of them and it was no doubt they were gone. The last one I got lucky. It seemed like the wind helped it a little. Old Mother Nature helped me get into the record books. I wish she had helped us win the game, too."

For the game Pichette was 4 for 4 with 7 RBIs and 4 runs scored.

G. Pichette walked in the 2nd, hit a GRAND SLAM off X. Manzanar in the 3rd, singled in the 5th, hit a solo-shot off J. Phelps in the 7th and hit a two-run home run off J. Phelps in the 9th.

This year Pichette has 20 home runs and a .304 batting average.

Wednesday, July 19th, 2045: Adrian Tomlinson Gets Hit Number 2000
"It would have been a lot nicer, if my 2000th hit had won the game," lamented Adrian Tomlinson after the Newark Terriers had been tripped up by the Napa Valley Winemakers, 8-5, spoiling his big day. The Terriers right fielder gained access to the exclusive 2000-hit club by going 2-for-6 in the game played at Zion Stadium.

"The standing ovation by the fans is not something I will ever forget," Tomlinson related to the press after the game. "I think even the Winemakers fans were cheering me."

During his career Tomlinson has compiled a .311 batting average and collected 2000 hits, 66 home runs and 671 RBIs.

Tuesday, August 1st, 2045: Chao - July's Top Starter
When Chua chay Chao takes the hill, chances are good for a Ann Arbor victory. At least that's the way it was in May.

He excelled with a 3-1 mark and 2.38 ERA in 7 starts, tossed 53 innings, fanned 53 and held others clubs to a .238 average.

That's why the Winged Lingerines star was honored today as the Pitcher of the Month by the Republic League.

So far this season Chao has compiled a 12-7 record with a 3.61 ERA.

Tuesday, August 1st, 2045: Red-Hot Rookie Rewarded in July
Félix Cantú is still a bit shy, but then, who could blame the newest Republic League Rookie of the Month honoree? He hasn't been around the league long enough to fully know the ropes yet, despite the fact that he's putting up veteran-like numbers.

In July the Chico hitter tagged opposing pitching for a .291 average with 30 hits, 8 home runs and 22 RBIs.

This season in 100 games Cantú is batting .269 with 25 home runs, 74 RBIs and has scored 58 times.

Tuesday, August 1st, 2045: Kobayashi Tabbed CL's Top Rookie
Akinori Kobayashi's eyes seem to light up whenever he sees the baseball. The young Boston second baseman has been hitting everything in sight for the better part of a month.

In July he was voted the Rookie of the Month Award.

During the month he hit .358 with 10 doubles, 3 triples and 2 home runs. Kobayashi also scored 17 times and drove in 9 runs.

In the 2045 season Kobayashi is batting .283 with 124 hits and 4 home runs. He has scored 59 times and batted in 28.

Tuesday, August 1st, 2045: Venagas Rips 3 Homers Against Patriots
António Venagas, right fielder for the Colorado Rancheros, had a whale of a game, rocketing three balls out of Ballpark of Colorado against the Hyannis Patriots today in their 7-5 victory.

After the game he said, "I got some good pitches to hit and I creamed them. The first was a big, fat fastball and the last two were hanging curves... all three were mistakes."

For the game Venagas was 3-3 with 5 RBIs and 3 runs scored.

Venagas added, "There's a fine line between hitting home runs and line drives. Today I found the home run stroke."

A. Venagas hit a three-run home run off T. Moore in the 1st, hit a solo-shot off B. Horning in the 3rd, hit a solo-shot off N. McKerchar in the 5th and walked in the 7th.

In 2045 Venagas is hitting .314, batted in 86 runs with 26 home runs and 78 runs scored.

Friday, August 4th, 2045: Colorado's Ledrew Reaches 2000 Hits
The box score from yesterday's game will show that Colorado beat the New York Heroes, 6-5. It will also show that first baseman Justin Ledrew went 3-for-5 for the Rancheros. It will not show, however, that Ledrew reached the 2000-hit mark for his career.

The 35-year-old Ledrew reflected on the achievement after the game. He mused: "In one respect, it's a real milestone, I guess. Yet, it's just a base hit like any other base hit."

In 1986 career games Ledrew has hit .296 with 2001 hits, 217 home runs, 980 RBIs and scored 1078 runs.

Thursday, August 10th, 2045: Hat Trick of Home Runs for Hamilton
What did Mike Hamilton eat for breakfast prior to his game against Hyannis? Whatever it was, it provided some surprising power as the Chico right fielder smacked three balls up and out of the park at Rebels Ballpark. His power surge sparked the Rebels to a 4-2 victory over the Patriots.

He told BNN reporters, "When they throw it in your wheelhouse, you got a shot at a homer. I got three shots today and nailed them all."

On his 3-homer day he went 3 for 3, scored 3 times, drove in 4 and put his name in the league record book.

M. Hamilton hit a two-run home run off C. Ayers in the 2nd, hit a solo-shot off C. Ayers in the 4th, walked in the 6th and hit a solo-shot off B. Horning in the 8th.

In the current season, Hamilton has put up a .250 batting average with 68 hits, 16 home runs, 47 RBI and scored 40 runs.

Saturday, August 26th, 2045: Kobayashi Shows Off, Hits for Cycle
Boston's Akinori Kobayashi accomplished what few others have been able to do -- he hit for the cycle. In baseball, a player hits for the cycle when he hits a single, a double, a triple and a home run in the same game, though not necessarily in that order. Collecting the hits in that order is known as a "natural cycle."

For the day he finished 5-6 with 2 runs batted in and 5 runs scored and helped his Settlers knock off the Napa Valley Winemakers 21-10 at Ballpark of Boston. In the postgame press conference he said, "I didn't even know I had hit for the cycle until after the game."

A. Kobayashi doubled in the 1st, was hit by a pitch in the 2nd, singled in the 3rd, hit a two-run home run off M. Villegas in the 4th, singled in the 5th, tripled in the 7th and flied out in the 8th.

Thus far this season Kobayashi has hit .296 with 8 home runs, 35 RBIs and scored 73 times.

Betancourt has made 26 starts so far this year and put up a 10-7 won-lost record with a 3.86 ERA. In 189 innings he has allowed 179 hits, walked 34 and struck out 162.

Sunday, September 3rd, 2045: Vélez Tags Number 300
Tokyo catcher Eduardo Vélez pounded a home run during the Cyclones 4-3 loss to Napa Valley yesterday. Despite the defeat the long ball was a significant achievement and raised his career home run total to 300.

The Tokyo star went 2 hits for 4 at-bats during the game, scoring 1 run and had 1 run batted in.

Vélez has compiled a career batting average of .251 with 1565 hits, 300 homers and 937 RBIs.

Saturday, September 9th, 2045: Thompson Collects Hit Number 2000
The Edmonton contest with Baltimore featured a real shining moment: Hugh Thompson, the Edge right fielder, collected career base hit #2000. That his team lost the game, 3-1, took away only a little bit of the luster. Fittingly, the 35-year-old Thompson, who went 2-for-4, received a warm ovation from the Edge Ballpark crowd.

Thompson is hitting .337 lifetime with 2000 hits, 313 doubles, 30 triples, 280 home runs and 1047 RBIs to date. He has scored 982 runs, walked 361 times and has a .384 OBP.

Friday, September 22nd, 2045: MacIan Whacks 3 out of the Park for Hyannis
Going... Going... Gone!
Callum MacIan did it three times in the Hyannis-Chico game at Patriots Place. Three home runs in one game -- but his team lost -- the Rebels outscored the Patriots 11-10.

"Gosh, it's a shame we didn't win this game. I get my name in the record book, but we lose the game."

For the day the Hyannis right fielder went 3-3 against Chico with 5 RBIs and 3 runs scored in a brilliant display of power hitting.

"I was in a groove," he said, "and every pitch they tossed up there looked like a basketball." Commenting after the game to the press, the semi-elated MacIan explained, "I tell you what, I was surprised because I didn't think the last ball had enough to get out. I thought it was just going to be a long out."

C. MacIan hit a solo-shot off J. Echegoyen in the 2nd, hit a solo-shot off J. Echegoyen in the 4th, hit a three-run home run off J. Pérez in the 5th, walked in the 7th and walked in the 9th.

This season-to-date MacIan has 14 home runs and a .257 batting average.

Tuesday, September 26th, 2045: Hit #2500 for Edge Matos
The day belonged to Norberto Matos of the Edmonton Edge as he became the latest player to reach the 2500-hit plateau. He did it in Edmonton's 6-1 win over Napa Valley.

"It's a moment I'll never forget," said Matos after the game, "2500 hits is a lot. It puts you in a very select group. I never expected to be around long enough to reach a milestone like this."

He finished the day with 2 hits in 5 at-bats.

Over his career Matos has batted .307 and collected 2501 hits, 165 home runs and 954 RBIs.

Sunday, October 1st, 2045: Ann Arbor's Chao RL Top Pitcher
Capping off a whirlwind month in which he went 4-0 with a 3.38 ERA, Chua chay Chao was selected as September's Republic League Pitcher of the Month today. Reporters caught up with the elated Ann Arbor starter as he left the clubhouse.

"I know it's difficult for pitchers -- when you have a bad start or two, people start wondering if you've lost it. Then you ride stretches like this one for all you can. You find it easier to come to the park every day because know you're contributing to the club, not just waiting for your turn in the rotation to make up for your last start."

Chua chay Chao definitely contributed to the club. He had 6 starts, throwing 42.2 innings, striking out 45, and holding the opposition to a .274 average.

This year Chao has fanned 272 in 261 innings and collected a 18-12 record with a 3.97 ERA.
