IR Greatest TV Show Tournament: Round 2, Bloc 3

A stunner in the second block of games saw #14 seed Monday Night Football knock off #6 seed The Office (US) by a comfortable margin. #4 Dexter also just barely fought off #5 seed Sports Night in the highlights of the four games.

Now we move on to the third block of matchups to determine who goes on to the Sweet 16.

First up, the Eaglesfan27 region, where #12 seed The Office (UK) hopes to fare better than its American cousin and simultaneously pull off an upset of its own against #4 seed The X-Files.

The Office (UK) Road Thus Far
Round 1: Defeated #5 seed Big Bang Theory 46-30

The X-Files Road So Far
Round 1: Defeated #13 seed Futurama 65-41

It should be a fairly comfortable win for the X-Files, as The Office's offense appears to have lost much of its mystique.

#1 seed The Wire headlines the Izulde region, as it squares off against #8 seed Mad Men in a battle of two critically acclaimed, popular shows with strong FOFC support.

The Wire Road Thus Far
Round 1: Defeated #16 seed Top Chef 61-17

Mad Men Road Thus Far
Round 1: Defeated #9 seed Beverly Hills 902010 56-44

Although the odds should favor The Wire here, backlash against tournament commissioner Izulde for his terrible scheduling could doom his beloved co-favorite of all time against Mad Men. It's a tough region to begin with, and Mad Men is quality opposition.

It's #7 Family Ties vs #2 South Park in the Solecismic.

Family Ties Road Thus Far
Round 1: Defeated Battlestar Galactica (new version) 58-26

South Park Road Thus Far
Round 1: Defeated #15 seed I Love Lucy 80-26

Don't let Family Ties' easy win over BSG fool you. South Park crushed what many felt was one of the strongest 15 seeds in the tournament in I Love Lucy and the Colorado kiddies look set to shut down Alex P. Keaton here.

And last, but never least, the Pumpy Tudors region with perhaps the block's most interesting matchup in #6 seed Married With Children against #3 seed The Cosby Show.

Married With Children Road Thus Far
Round 1: Defeated #11 seed Dr. Who 93-22

Cosby Show Road Thus Far
Round 1: Defeated #14 seed Newsradio 68-25

Too close to call in this fascinating battle between two family shows who couldn't be more completely different. The winner of this one will say much about the climate of the FOFC landscape.

Although I went with Cosby Show, I agree, it's a hell of a matchup.

Three easy choices (UK Office, Married with Children, South Park) and one matchup where I haven't seen either show.

UK Office and South Park are two of my all-time favorites, it's a shame that one will likely be losing at this stage in the tournament.

Wow, MWC and Cosby are going to go to the wire. Cosby was awesome, but MWC was groundbreaking, one of my favorite comedies of all time.

MWC and Cosby Show have had a ton of lead changes so far. Pretty cool to see.

It's a shame that an under-seeded Mad Men is going out in the 2nd round, but I cannot in good conscience vote for it over The Wire.

Reasons you should vote for Married With Children instead of The Cosby Show (even though that show was pretty awesome too).

- Cosby was a great show and hugely popular. But Married With Children was groundbreaking. Remember what sitcoms were like in the 80s? All squishy soft and family friendly? Married With Children was the show that changed that. Cosby was the last great family sitcom, but Married With Children was the first great grownup sitcom (in a long time). Give me the trendsetter. If you've enjoyed pretty much any comedy made since 1990, you should be voting for Married With Children. If you wish everything was still like Full House or Family Matters, then by all means go Cosby.

- Married With Children was also the show that put Fox on the map, and helped it survive the first few years. It also convinced Fox that grownup sitcoms that tried something original could work. So they tried a second one, and it was called The Simpsons. Do you like The Simpsons? If so, you need to be voting for Married With Children.

- You tugged it to Kelly Bundy. You did not tug it to Vanessa. I don't know you, but I feel pretty comfortable stating this as fact.

- The night of the Cosby Show's final episode, the LA riots happened. Now we can't prove that one caused the other. But we can't prove it didn't, now can we?

Seriously, vote for Married With Children or I'll kill you.

I voted for MwC despite not being a big fan of it, also while enjoying Cosby originals/reruns when I was younger.
