We lost a great man and a better politician today.....

Ike Skelton dead at age 81. Today's politicians could learn a lot from noting how he served our country during his 34 years in office.

Skelton was a great public servant. I didn't always agree with him, but I respected him and never doubted his intentions and beliefs. Had the pleasure to meet him a few times (although he would never know who I was). I do wish he had retired in 2010 because age was catching up with him and he didn't deserve to go out the way he did losing to nutty Vicki Hartzler.

It was considered controversial when it happened but I think everyone would love Ike now for the time he told Todd Akin to "stick it up your ass" that got picked up by a CSPAN mic.

RIP Ike.
