CL's Best Batter Selected
Tuesday, May 1st, 2085: Seasoned by several years of professional experience, 33-year-old Hyun-seung Chin put together a solid offensive month for St Louis and was crowned April's top batter in the Continental League.

He batted .311 with 7 home runs, 21 RBIs and 16 runs scored.


López Snags RL Batting Honor in April
Tuesday, May 1st, 2085: Eduardo López received the Republic League Batter of the Month trophy earlier today for his efforts at the plate this last month.

"He might be getting older," Waikiki's manager told reporters, "But he's been around long enough to know what it takes to put a stretch such as this together... and he doesn't keep that to himself. He's always talking to the younger guys in the clubhouse helping 'em any way they'll let him. Eduardo's value to our team goes farther than the numbers he puts up on the field."

To win the honor López put up a .369 batting average, 4 home runs, 19 RBIs and scored 27 times in April.

Johnson CL's #1 Pitcher in April
Tuesday, May 1st, 2085: Tim Johnson took a much-deserved turn in the spotlight earlier today as he accepted the Continental League Pitcher of the Month award for April.

The 22-year-old Pirates starter is a relative newcomer to the league, but nonetheless racked up an impressive 3-0 won-lost record in 5 starts. This month he fanned 30 batters in 37 innings and compiled a 1.22 ERA.


April's Best RL Hurler is Cruz
Tuesday, May 1st, 2085: Despite the number of years he's been in the league, Enrico Cruz still gets excited when he puts together a quality stretch like he had in April. The 28-year-old starter for Las Vegas was named Republic League Pitcher of the Month earlier today.

He collected 4 wins and no losses with 38 strikeouts in his 5 starts, putting up a fine 2.73 ERA in 33 innings of work.

CL's Top-Rated Rookie Honored
Tuesday, May 1st, 2085: Yes, Tim Johnson is just a rookie. But he is a special rookie. Today the 22-year-old Plantana starter was awarded the Continental League Rookie of the Month trophy for his standout performance in April.

He dominated the rookie class, registering 3 wins and no losses in 5 starts with 30 strikeouts in 37 innings and a 1.22 ERA.

Not bad for a first-year man.


Republic League Names Rookie of Month
Tuesday, May 1st, 2085: Youngster Cheng-en Xia emerged as the latest Republic League Rookie of the Month today. The young man from Ann Arbor deserved the honor, batting .363 with 2 home runs and 10 runs batted in. Is the month of April a harbinger of things to come or just a fluke? We'll find out someday, but for now, we'll just let Xia enjoy the limelight.

London's McCormick Snags May Batting Title
Friday, June 1st, 2085: There's nothing like putting up good, solid numbers in the last year of your contract. Today Bobby McCormick helped his contract negotiations by nabbing May's Continental League Batter of the Month honors.

The London first baseman put together a .375 batting average with 10 home runs, 28 RBIs and 34 runs scored.

Someone will surely be opening up the vault this offseason if McCormick continues at this brisk pace.

For the season McCormick is batting .322 with 74 hits and 14 home runs. He has scored 53 times and batted in 41.


Waikiki's Booker Snaps up May Batting Award
Friday, June 1st, 2085: Ron Booker of the Beach Boys hit .380 in May with 11 home runs, 23 RBIs and 21 runs scored to capture a majority of votes for the Republic League Batter of the Month trophy.

The 32-year-old is in the last year of his contract and will undoubtedly use these numbers to try and bring in a huge pay raise.

Thus far this year Booker has hit .300 with 15 home runs and 44 RBIs.

Álvarez Premier Pitcher in May
Friday, June 1st, 2085: Ramón Álvarez nailed down May's Continental League Pitcher of the Month award today, adding pressure on St Louis to get a deal done before the 30-year-old becomes a free agent.

Álvarez seems unfazed by the talk. "We get a deal done or we don't," he told reporters, "I'm not worrying about next year. Worrying about next year isn't what wins awards, you know?"

He fashioned a 4-0 record, reeled off 32 strikeouts, worked 34.1 innings and held batters to a .200 average for the month as he posted a 1.31 ERA.

To this point in the season Álvarez has 7 wins and 1 loss and a 2.65 ERA.


Shimizu Wins RL Top Pitcher Award
Friday, June 1st, 2085: Ryunosuke Shimizu has been around the league long enough to know that relievers are often overlooked. That has never stopped him from doing what he does best -- and he did it extremely well in May and stole away with the Republic League Pitcher of the Month award.

The Axemen bullpen ace collected 8 saves and 15 strikeouts in 13 innings, holding the opposition to a .122 average and posting a 0.00 ERA and a 2-0 record.

In 20 relief appearances this year, Shimizu has thrown 22.1 innings, struck out 21 and collected 13 saves. His won-lost record is 3-0 with a 0.00 ERA.

CL Selects Rookie Star of the Month
Friday, June 1st, 2085: Manuel Longoria earned May's Rookie of the Month honors in the Continental League for last month's performance. The boyish St Cloud right fielder might be wet behind the ears, but he's proving that he has what it takes to play at this level.

Longoria hit .303 with 2 home runs, 10 RBIs and 16 runs scored this past month on his way to winning the award.

So far this season Longoria is hitting .276 with 2 home runs, 14 RBIs and 25 runs scored. He has 58 hits in 210 at-bats and a .385 OBP.


Ann Arbor Shortstop Best RL Rookie
Friday, June 1st, 2085: One of the Republic League's brightest newcomers, George Morgan was at the head of his class in May as he picked up the Rookie of the Month honors.

The 28-year-old Ann Arbor shortstop batted .289 with 1 home run and 9 RBIs.

This season Morgan has hit at a .262 clip and produced 20 RBI, 2 home runs and 19 runs.

Havana's Jones Acclaimed Best CL Hitter
Sunday, July 1st, 2085: Though his face is weathered and his hands are calloused, Reed Jones can still get it done in FOOL-X. In fact, the 35-year-old left fielder for Havana was named the Continental League Batter of the Month today after putting up an impressive performance at the plate.

In June he batted .319 with 10 home runs, 33 RBIs and 26 runs scored.

Jones is hitting .298 so far this season with 65 RBIs and 52 runs scored. He has 91 hits including 18 home runs, 37 walks and .380 OBP.


Great June Gets Barrett RL Best Hitter Award
Sunday, July 1st, 2085: Today Spring's Dana Barrett was named Republic League Batter of the Month for June. He slammed opposing pitching hard all month long, bashing out 41 hits in 113 at-bats.

With a .363 batting average, 9 home runs, 29 RBIs and 19 runs scored, he was a solid choice.

Presently Barrett is batting .324 and has collected 22 home runs, 66 RBIs, .393 OBP and scored 48 runs.

Qu Is June's Top Starter
Sunday, July 1st, 2085: A standout performance in June earned Tak-wai Qu the Pitcher of the Month Award in the Continental League. When his name was penciled in to start by the Stafford skipper, it meant trouble for opposing teams. For the month the Terriers star racked up 4 wins and no losses.

In 34.1 innings of work, Qu limited opposing batters to 25 base hits and a .195 batting average. He notched 29 strikeouts, issued 8 walks and had a 1.05 ERA.

On the season Qu has 9 wins and 2 losses and a 2.53 ERA.


Bojórquez Named Top RL Hurler
Sunday, July 1st, 2085: Veteran Miguel Angel Bojórquez put together quite a successful stretch in June for the Spring Lions, earning himself the Republic League Pitcher of the Month award.

Bojórquez racked up a 4-0 record in 6 starts, posting a 0.88 ERA over 41 innings and striking out 20.

So far this year Bojórquez has compiled a 8-2 record with a 2.43 ERA.

Sunday, July 1st, 2085: Manuel Longoria is still a bit shy, but then, who could blame the newest Continental League Rookie of the Month honoree? He hasn't been around the league long enough to fully know the ropes yet, despite the fact that he's putting up veteran-like numbers.

In June the St Cloud hitter tagged opposing pitching for a .375 average with 36 hits, 1 home run and 8 RBIs.

So far this year in 81 games Longoria is hitting .307 with 3 home runs, 22 RBIs and 39 runs scored.


Great Month for RL Rookie
Sunday, July 1st, 2085: Tsuyoshi Yamada was toddling around on his tricycle when some of the guys he's playing against were in their prime, but the 24-year-old first baseman definitely knows how to get to first, second or beyond. Today he was chosen June's Republic League Rookie of the Month for his remarkable month of hitting.

In 21 games Yamada batted .338 for New York, slapping 25 hits in 74 at-bats with 5 home runs, drove in 23 runs and scored 13 times.

So far in 2085 Yamada is batting .268 with 17 home runs, 64 RBIs and 38 runs scored. He has 63 hits in 235 at-bats and a .297 OBP.

Okada Takes CL's Best Bat Award
Wednesday, August 1st, 2085: Motonobu Okada battered Continental League pitchers all July and wound up taking home the Batter of the Month Award.

"I've been around FOOL-X long enough to know you really have to work hard day in and day out to be able to put up this kind of consistency," the 32-year-old Okada told reporters. "I put in a lot of work, even on the days I might not take the field, and it's always nice when everything comes together for me like it did this last month."

In 24 games, Okada hit .347 with 7 home runs, 22 RBIs and scored 19 runs.

This year Okada is hitting .295 with 22 home runs and 79 RBIs to his credit. He has gotten on base at a .346 clip and scored 62 runs.


Mercado Grabs RL Best Batter Award for July
Wednesday, August 1st, 2085: António Mercado, the Cleveland left fielder, certainly made a name for himself this past month. He banged out a .403 batting average with 48 hits, 5 home runs, 17 RBIs and scored 17 times.

That kind of hitting earned him the Republic League Batter of the Month honors for July.

Mercado is hitting .326 for the season with 16 home runs, 63 RBIs and 69 runs scored. He has 147 hits in 451 at-bats and played in 107 games.

Velásquez Takes CL #1 Pitcher Trophy
Wednesday, August 1st, 2085: Alberto Velásquez was the anchor in the Oshawa bullpen last month and snatched up the Continental League Pitcher of the Month honors for July. The 27-year-old is in the prime of his career and pitching like he intends to stay around baseball for quite some time to come.

He threw 12.1 innings over 12 relief appearances and collected a 1-1 record with 16 strikeouts and 8 saves while etching his 0.73 ERA.

Velásquez has made 48 games so far this year with 20 saves. In 54.2 innings he has dished out 67 strikeouts and walked 21 with a 2-3 mark and a 2.30 ERA.


Tadeo Top RL Pitcher in July
Wednesday, August 1st, 2085: Gabriel Tadeo is the latest Republic League Pitcher of the Month award winner. The Maricopa starter stood out on the hill time and again last month and finished July with a sparkling 4-0 record.

In 5 starts last month, he fanned 35, walked 5 in 36 innings and posted a 2.00 ERA. Tadeo held opposing teams to a .205 batting average when he was on the mound.

In 22 starts this year Tadeo has recorded a 10-6 record and a 2.91 ERA.

Rookie Wiz Gets July Award in CL
Wednesday, August 1st, 2085: Manuel Longoria's eyes seem to light up whenever he sees the baseball. The young St Cloud right fielder has been hitting everything in sight for the better part of a month.

In July he was voted the Rookie of the Month Award.

During the month he hit .340 with 7 doubles, 1 triple and 2 home runs. Longoria also scored 19 times and drove in 8 runs.

So far this season Longoria has put up a .315 batting average with 127 hits, 5 home runs and 30 RBIs.


Spring Second Baseman July's Premier Rookie
Wednesday, August 1st, 2085: Spring's Vincente Marrero collected 24 hits to snare the Republic League Rookie of the Month for July.

He batted .286 with 3 home runs, 9 RBIs and 16 runs scored.

The 21-year-old is barely old enough to shave, but he could definitely contend for Rookie of the Year if he keeps up this pace.

A look at his season totals shows Marrero with 13 home runs, .257 BA, .323 OBP, 43 RBIs and 54 runs scored.

CL Batter of the Month Honors to Salamanca
Saturday, September 1st, 2085: To survive in the bigs, you've got to be a scrapper like Claudio Salamanca. It never pays to take a day off from the batting cages or to shrug off the advice of the hitting coach. It all paid off today as St Louis's shortstop pinned down the Continental League Batter of the Month trophy today.

He hit .311 in August collecting 10 home runs, 27 RBIs and 22 runs scored.

Presently Salamanca is batting .261 with 26 home runs and 89 RBIs. He has played in 134 games and scored 88 times.


Salazar August's Best Bat Choice
Saturday, September 1st, 2085: Fans, friends and family were cheering today when Héctor Salazar received August's Republic League Batter of the Month Award.

Salazar stung the ball all month, posting a .359 batting average with 8 home runs, 29 RBIs and 26 runs scored.

This year Salazar is batting .301 with 29 home runs.

St Louis's Starter Receives CL Pitching Award
Saturday, September 1st, 2085: Ramón Camacho was a long shot to make the St Louis Hops this year, especially being a 32-year-old rookie. Now the St Louis hurler has parlayed a 5-0 record into the Continental League Pitcher of the Month award.

In August, he chalked up 26 strikeouts in 42.1 innings and compiled a 3.19 ERA.

In 27 starts this season, Camacho has picked up 13 wins while suffering 10 losses. He has pitched 152.2 innings, allowed 169 hits, struck out 88 and posted a 4.72 ERA.


Reliever Oliver Top RL Pitcher in August
Saturday, September 1st, 2085: Mark Oliver is at the zenith of his career and today he was selected as the Republic League Pitcher of the Month for August.

He made no relief appearances for New York last month, throwing 42.1 innings and collecting no saves, a 4-0 record, 28 strikeouts and a 2.34 ERA.

So far this season, in no relief appearances Oliver has compiled an ERA of 4.71. He has pitched 191 innings, struck out 128, walked 48 and registered no saves.

St Louis Newcomer August's Best Rookie
Saturday, September 1st, 2085: Ramón Camacho is an old man by baseball standards. In fact, after so many years of being overlooked, the 32-year-old rookie for St Louis is a bit surprised himself that he's living the good life right now. In August Camacho reeled off a 5-0 record in 6 starts as he claimed the Continental League Rookie of the Month Award.

He posted an ERA of 3.19 with 26 strikeouts in 42.1 innings and held opponents to a .259 average.

Looking at his season stats, Camacho has won 13 and lost 10, collecting 88 strikeouts and 50 walks in 152.2 innings with a 4.72 ERA.


Foster Tabbed RL's Top Rookie
Saturday, September 1st, 2085: The Republic League made the official announcement today. The Rookie of the Month award went to Dan Foster of Maricopa. He was named the best rookie in August.

Last month the 26-year-old Rattlers right fielder played in 24 games and hit .302 with 4 doubles, 1 triple and 1 home run. Foster also scored 13 times and drove in 15 runs.

This year Foster is hitting .255 with 108 hits, 12 home runs, 58 RBIs and has scored 47
