Troy Trojans 12. ntndeacon Draft Results Starting a thread and sending out PMs to gauge interest. I have sent invites through Yahoo as well. Who can join Preference goes towards members who were in the league last year. Anyone else will be put on the waiting list. Remember - if you're from last year, put your team name and number. I have a list of numbers on my desktop which is the draft order (no, if you pick 1, you don't pick 1st- you pick in whatever order #1 is on that list). If you're on the waiting list, don't post a number yet. Those who were in the league last year just scroll down to get the info on the new yahoo league url and join it. Those on the waiting list, don't join the yahoo league until I have confirmed that someone has dropped out and you can take their place. Draft Format
Opening Day is April 3. I would like to start this some time the last week of February so we aren't rushed like last year. Once we get enough people signed up, we will pick a date. The draft will take place in this thread once the league has been set up. It is a snake draft. The first pick each morning must be made by 10 am eastern time. Then the four hour clock will start for the next pick. Also, lets make the cutoff 10 pm eastern at night so if the final pick is made at 8 pm, the next person has until 10 am eastern time to make his pick. If most people in this league live in the western time zone or central time zone we could adjust this On weekends the first pick must be made by 10 am eastern, we'll *go with a standard 4 hours with a 10 pm eastern time cut off. If there are problems in that you know your pick is coming up but you won't be online, submit a list either to myself or to a proxy drafter for you. Otherwise, you will get the next player on Yahoo's list. Maybe pick someone who is on the opposite end of the draft from you so that you likely won't be grabbing from the same pool of players anyways. Opening Day is April 3. If the draft is not complete by April 1 at noon, we will have a quick live draft via AIM (or a program people actually use) to complete the draft on Saturday April 4 at 7pm . Anyone who won't be able to make that will need to submit a list to me, a proxy, or have a proxy in chat (who is not in the league) to finish out their team. If you miss more than 2 picks in the draft (i.e. time limit expired so a Yahoo rankings pick), particularly in the first 10 rounds, then you can be replaced as manager. I hate to lay down some of these rules but we're going to be drafting over 250 players so we need to get it done in a timely fashion. IF YOU CANNOT KEEP UP WITH THIS SCHEDULE, DO NOT JOIN. Props to LWFS - running a league is a giant pain in the ass and he's been doing it for a number of years now. Quite well in fact.
Thanks, brother. |

Appreciate the kind words, gentlemen.
I hope this year we can have a bit more chatter during the season. One thing our founding father, Sterlingice was superb at was the inseason updates. Hopefully I can churn one of those out. Or maybe someone else since I haven't done it in a half-decade or so lol For those that didn't put a number with their name, I assigned you a random number. If you want a different number instead that hasn't been picked yet, let me know. |

I will send another pm out to cubboyroy. I told him that I am giving him until Friday to join. I hope he does! Long time member, hate to see him go... Speaking of which is Mizzourah the last original member left from 2006?

Last year was a 3 hour clock due to how close we started towards Opening Day. I decided to make it a 4 hour clock this year. If anybody has any strenuous objections, now is the time to make your opinion known
Also, the draft will start on Tuesday, March 1 which is the first day of Spring Training games. We can certainly do a soft start before then if somebody is anxious to get Bryce Harper on their team. Although I do hear he is overrated |

If possible, I'd like to go back on the waiting list. I've always enjoyed this, and have time to devote here, unlike a couple of seasons ago.

Just heard back from Cubboy, unfortunately he cannot join the league this year. That means both Zinto and Packerfanatic are in!
I will put Comey on the waiting list just in case someone drops out. |

can we discuss going to a keeper format?
I would propose you can keep up to 4 players with a 5 round penalty for each (IE I draft harper in round 20, next year I can keep him as a 15, then the year after as a 10 etc). I would also like to see the SP innings lowered to 30.

I'm an old fart. I'm not big on keepers for fantasy baseball.. I don't mind keeping one player in fantasy football and I'm open to maybe keeping 1-2 players in fantasy baseball - TOPS and you can't keep the same player(s) two years in a row. Just my opinion though and I guess we could have a vote? |

Hooray! Happy to be back after a year off to recharge
I have been back and forth on the keeper aspect in this league in the past, and with how huge our rosters are to begin with, I think I'd rather not worry about adding keepers to that mix.

Just to nip this keeper thing in the bud, we aren't going to do keepers. We had a vote on it last year and it didn't go through. Maybe you will have better luck setting up a keeper league this year in a separate thread. And I mean that truely, not snarkily (if that is a word).
As far as innings pitched is concerned, I think it is fair to have a vote on lowering it somewhat, but 30 IP is much too low considering we are drafting 7 starters. I like that people have to focus on pitching depth and that you can be burned if you put together a poor pitching staff. Starters matter!!! even with that being said, I think it was only a handful of times people didn't reach the IP requirement. I believed it happened to me once last year when my starters all got bombed the same week. |

would be interesting to see how many times people failed to meet the 48IP. I feel like i didnt a number due to injuries.

right, I usually bring up the keeper idea - and even tried to set up a new thread, I think. And there were no bites. I'm willing to commish the keeper league if there is enough interest - but there never is

Like the time it happened to me in the semifinals two years ago and I missed it by like, 2 innings and would have won the championship? Like that time? And the only reason it happened was because of a starter taking an extra days rest? Not that I am bitter at all...

Perhaps 40 innings would be a good compromise number .

I see the point in minimum IP, but what I would like to see would be you losing only the ERA/WHIP categories if you fail to hit it, not losing ALL pitching categories. It's especially killer in a weekly league - we don't have the luxury of seeing a guy pitch a shutout and then bench him before his 10-run game the next time out. You ride with what you got and if someone gets hurt or skips a start, you're screwed. I could definitely see doing it for the two categories where it really matters, but it seems quite harsh to screw ALL those categories.

That is the way season-long leagues work - if you miss the innings limit you only lose out on the ratio categories. By pitching fewer innings you handicap yourself on the counting stats (W, S, K) so good on you if you do well in those.
I'd strongly support holding teams to the IP limit (whatever it is) by penalizing only the ratio categories. |
