RICHMOND SKYDOGS 2017
Expansion Draft I went after defensive talent here, but also recognize that expansion talnet isn't the kind of talent worthy of the dominant franchise I intend to build and therefore spend the last 15 picks or so on cheap guys and guys whose contracts will run out after this season. After the draft, KC offered a 5th-round choice for TE Jared Myers. With Myers in the last year of his contract, I accepted the offer. Free Agency Period With a strong "D" as my initial goal, I go after All-Pro LB Jesse Grant. He signs a 4-year, $34.5M deal Week 2. Here are my 3 WK 11-20 signees: T Kenny Cedeno: 4yrs,$8.25M QB Jerry Corbett: 4yrs,$14.04M S Deron Newton: 3yrs,$13.5M Amateur Draft 1(1) T Byron Krieger, Butler 2(1) RB Joe Washington, Illinois 3(1) C Kevin Hadavi, Tennessee Tech 4(1) FB Dale Gullett, Rutgers 5(1) QB Thomas Larimer, Alabama 5(17) WR Freddy Lincoln, Quincy University 6(1) RB Dale Harding, Miami(FL) 7(1) LB Howie Anthony, North Texas With an expansion team, I believe in going after "best available". Krieger looks like a franchise T, and Washington's endurance of 84 should allow him to be a workhorse back. After the amateur draft, I sign one-year deals and get up to 70 players. (Note: I signed three guys to contracts of more than one year, but remembered that rule before I was done with all of the signings. I dropped them all before proceeding to training camp. Just mentioning this now.) Post-Training Camp I had no real busts or breakouts from the draft. I get offered a 7th-round pick by Cleveland for one of my FA pickups, CB Roman Gunn. I accept the offer, then cut 16 more guys to cut the roster down to 53. Here they are: From the desk of Wesley Harper of the Richmond SkyDogs Regular Season We went 4-12. Points Scored: 190 (OUCH!) Points Allowed: 335 (not bad) Neither QB did much. Larimer had a 56.5 Rating in 11 starts, Corbett a 61.9. RB Washington was decent with 221 carries for 913 yards. During the postseason, I extended DE Ronald Jones' contract for two more years. New England beat Chicago 24-14 to win the Super Bowl. None of the SkyDogs won awards. HERB'S SCORES Performance: 4 Frnc. Value: 28 Profit/Loss: 54 Difficulty: 70 YREND SCORE: 33 POINTS: 4 [This message has been edited by SkyDog (edited 01-23-2001).]

STAFF HIRING PERIOD I grab a new scout, B.J. Nix. His ratings: EX: DB,Young Talent VG: DL,LB G: OL,K F: QB,RB I also sign a new coach, Will McKoy. His ratings: EX: RB,Dis VG: Av. Inj,LB G: QB,REC,DL,DB,Young Talent,Motivation F: OL,K,Off Play Call,Def Play Call McKoy should be a great help in developing my young talent that Nix should be great in finding. Free Agency Period My priority is to improve at offensive guard so Washington will have some room to run and my defense won't have to be on the field so long. I go after G Jermaine Walters in the first part of the free agency period. He signs a 4yr/$30.5M deal in Week 6. Here are my later-week signings: TE Seth Frederickson DT Leonard Money WR Emmanuel Weydahl Amateur Draft 1(3): DT Lance Haugen 41/84,40/85,72...a potential star at a position where i need a starter! 2(3): G Drew Glen 32/75,36/52,91....looks like i may now have the offensive line i need 3(3): WR Lawrence Terry...solid-looking WR to help keep the defense honest 4(3): DT Don Mathews 18/61,19/72,34...needed 2 starting DT's. Got 2 starting DT's. 5(3): QB Wade Hicks...has very nice-looking potentials in everything except for 3rd Down Passing (34). Could use him as a starter and run more on 3rd down. 6(3): DT Vincent Gunn...good run-stopping backup DT 7(3): QB Rico Stargell...hey, i need a QB...maybe he could break out 7(21): G Derrick Daley...roster filler After the amateur draft, I re-sign a few of my own RFA's and some undrafted guys to get the ol' roster to 53. Post Training Camp #3 pick DT Lance Haugen looks like he's going to be a bust. His numbers went down to 6/34,8/40,50. Arrrgggh! No other busts or breakouts. Here's the roster: From the desk of B.J. Nix of the Richmond SkyDogs End Of Regular Season Record: 3-13 Our quarterback statistics were abyssmal. As a team, we threw 7 TD's and 31 INT's. STAFF HIRING PERIOD Scout B.J. Nix remains with me. Update ratings: EX: None VG: DB,Young Talent,DL,LB G: Rec,OL,K F: QB,RB I grab a promising new coach, Harvey Chapman. He's never coached in the NFL before. His ratings: EX: None VG: QB,RB,DL,DB,K,Off,Avd Inj. G: REC,OL,DB,Young Talent,Motivation,Disc.,Def Play Call F: None P: LB Free Agency Period I'd be thrilled to get a QB in the first part of free agency. Tim LaTendresse of Portland is available. He is a 7th year man with 3 as a starter with a career QB rating of 89.5. Gotta get him. He signs a 5yr/$102.M deal in Week 4. YES! Here's who I get in the later rounds: LB Jerome Roberts WR Charles Mallory P Jamie Lockwood (no talent left worth the money at other positions, and I can use a good punter) Amateur Draft 1(3): DE Freddie Sperr. With ratings of 41/98,42/78,85, he could be a great one. 2(3): LB Lenny Shepherd. Solid ratings everywhere. 76 endurance. 3(3): DT Fernando Argentati. 26/92,12/49,78. Could be that run-stopping DT that every team needs. 4(3): S Trent Sprotte. Could be a starter in a couple of years. Nice potential ratings. 5(3): K Ed Walker. Pretty good kicker. Haven't had one of those yet. 6(3): RB Jeffrey Brock. Pretty solid backup RB. "Redliner." 7(3): WR Bryan Bishop. Another redliner. After the amateur draft, I re-sign a few of my own RFA's, cut some guys and sign some undrafted guys to get the ol' roster to 53. I went ahead and cut DT Haugen, last year's 1st-round bust. I'll take the big cap hit next year while I can still afford it. By the way, I came up with a way to get around the "you can't get the roster up to 53 with all those RFA's" situation. Sign guys who don't want bonuses, then cut them immediately. I did that to get me up to 53. Post Training Camp No busts or breakouts. Here's the roster: From the desk of B.J. Nix of the Richmond SkyDogs My roster rating is up to 71! Playoff run this year? We shall see. I've got to get ready for Sunday School/Church, so I'll play the season later today. --------------------------------------------- End of Regular Season Yeah baby! Breakout season under the leadership of QB Tim LaTendresse. He proved he was worth every penny of his $100M+ contract, guiding us to a 10-5-1 regular season record and a playoff birth! All of this despite RB Joe Washington missing 10 starts due to an early-season injury. Key numbers: QB LaTendresse--252 for 406 (62.0%) 3419 yds, 28TD's, 17INT's, 94.4rtg WR Mallory--76 catches for 1036 yds, 7TD's WR Weydahl--71 catches for 1020 yds, 7TD's LB Grant--121 tackles Points Scored: 419 Points Against: 313 Rushing Yards: 1910 (11th) Passing Yards: 4175 (3rd) Rushing Defense: 1603 (9th) Passing Defense: 3938 (33rd) Still need to work on my secondary. (Duh! both CB's were rookie undrafted FA's.) Playoff Report Wild Card Round vs. Dallas As the best record Wild Card team, we open at home vs. the Cowboys. The defense holds Dallas to 123 yards and 6 first downs and we win 10-3. Divisionals vs. Philadelphia Our run ends, but not without a fight. Philly hits a field goal as time expires to send it to OT, where they win 37-31. Joe Washington, RIC, RB - 27 carries for 188 yards, 2 TDs. All in all, a great year. We have now arrived as a force in the league. I re-sign C Hadavi so his contract doesn't run out. Indianapolis beats Philly 34-3 to win the Super Bowl. STAFF HIRING PERIOD Scout B.J. Nix was dumped in favor of Lincoln August. His ratings: EX: K VG: OL,LB,DB,Young Talent G: QB,RB,DL F: Rec I hang on to Coach Harvey Chapman. His ratings: EX: None VG: QB,RB,DL,DB,K,Off,Avd Inj. G: REC,OL,Young Talent,Motivation,Disc., F: Def Play Call P: LB Ticket Price/Franchise Player I get 20 VR Boxes. Ticket prices haven't changed since year 1. Here they are: Upper Deck: 60 End Zone: 60 Mezzanine: 80 Sidelines: 95 License: 0 Club Seats: 3,000 Luxury Boxes: 200,000 VR Boxes: 200,000 I designate S Deron Newton as my Franchise Player. Free Agency Period Before I can sign guys, it is time to take a look at cutting some overpaid folks and maybe some last-year renegotiations to help with the cap room hit created by cutting my 1st rounder last year. Here's who gets cut/renegotiated with and why: QB Jerry Corbett: cut. $4M is too much to pay for a crappy backup. I'd rather take my chances with a rookie. FB Dale Gullett: extended. He's been a fine blocking back and the contract he was asking for actually saves me $500K in cap room this year so I went ahead and did it rather than waiting for after the regular season. DT Leonard Money: cut. He just isn't worth $5.5M in cap room. If I can't find a GOOD DT or two, I can at least use the younger guys I have on the roster at <$1.5M LB Jerome Roberts: cut. One of my undrafted FA's from last year has had potential ratings improve dramatically. I want him to start. S Donovan Fields: cut. Again, one of my RFA's will be better-rated and cheaper. I sign one of my RFA's, LB Scott Clements. He's the one with breakout ratings. He gets a 3yr, $17.8M deal. I also sign RFA S Harold Barber for a 3-year, $10.18M deal. OK. Now to the FA pool. My biggest positions of need are CB and DT. I get CB Kendrick Hanson in the first half of free agency for $24M over 3 years. Here's who I get in the later weeks: DE Mickey Kendrick: 3yrs, $21.48M. I also sign my franchise player, S Deron Newton, to a 3yr,$19M deal. Amateur Draft 1(28): CB Ralph McElroy. 38/100,21/65,26/82,56. Starting cornerback if all goes well. 2(28): T Pete Wallace. 42/83,41/72,50. Looks like a starting RT to me. I'll cut my current one. 3(28): DT John Enis. 21/60,16/68,68. I might make him my starter this year. 4(28): DT Arnold Steffen. 48/69,19/41,50. Looked at him last round. Enis better long-term, but never can hurt to have depth in the DL. 5(28): QB Robbie Bauer. Pretty decent ratings. 92 in 3rd Down Passing. Solid backup? 6(28): G George St. John. 28/61,16/53,54. Heck. A potential starter this late. I'll take him! 7(28): S Toby Powell. Pretty good option at safety. A banner draft! Potential starters even in rounds 6 and 7. Major cap problems though. I end the draft with 39 players and $310K over the cap! I have to make some serious cuts. I go after guys who are starters with backups nipping at their heels and backups making too much. Here's who gets cut and what I save under the cap: QB Wade Hicks: $1.09M. Would have been #3 QB. C Horace Sandberg: $1.36M. I can find a better rookie backup for a lot cheaper. T Kenny Cedeno: $2.75M. I'll go with rookie Pete Wallace at starting RT. DT Vincent Gunn: $1.09M. Don't need 5DT's. LB Lenny Shepherd: $1.42M. Last year's 2nd-round pick doesn't look like he'll ever start. S Harold Barber: $2.67M. I just re-signed him as a RFA earlier this year, but 7th-rounder Toby Powell looks a lot better, and is cheaper. These cuts and one contract extension (LB Jesse Grant) get my cap room to $13.72M and 33 guys on the roster. I can now afford to sign 20 first-year guys to fill my roster out. Post Training Camp No busts or breakouts. Here's the roster: From the desk of Lincoln August of the Richmond SkyDogs Roster Rating is a big fat 100! Big expectations in Richmond. --------------------------------------------- End of Regular Season Very strange season. I start off 6-0 and sittin' on top of the world. Then we manage to rattle of SEVEN consecutive losses. We rebound to close with three wins, but miss the playoffs. ARGGH! Key numbers: QB LaTendresse--271 for 449 (60.3%) 3161 yds, 24TD's, 9INT's, 91.1 QB Rtg. It certainly wasn't HIS fault we missed the playoffs. I think I'll throw more next year. RB Brock--182 for 896 yards (4.9ypc) 5TD's RB Washington--82 for 518 yards (6.3ypc) 3TD's WR Mallory--68 catches for 757 yds, 5TD's WR Weydahl--69 catches for 848 yds, 7TD's WR Terry--56 catches for 718 yds,5TD's Points Scored: 350 Points Against: 351 Rushing Yards: 2300 (2nd) Passing Yards: 3534 (14th) Rushing Defense: 1793 (24th) Passing Defense: 3733 (29th) Defense needs to improve, but I think I have the right personnel in place. Just need to let them play up to their potential. Playoff Report I extend the following contracts: LB Kerry O'Neal WR Weydahl C Hadavi I also cut several guys to whose contracts are going to run out anyway to give me room on the roster to get to 53 next year. New Orleans beats New England 20-14 to win the Super Bowl. Awards FB Gullett--2nd Team All-Pro Herb's Ratings Performance: 54 Frnc. I feel for you on the bust - I had a third pick in my second year (a linebacker) go bad and he sat on my cap for 5 years to the tune of 45 million dollars. I couldnt cut him early because the cap hit would have accelerated to between 20-25 million!
Interesting that our busts share so much in common - second year, third pick.

STAFF HIRING PERIOD Lincoln August's reputation declined, so I dumped him in favor of guess who??? Yep, B.J. Nix is improved and back. His ratings: EX: DB,Young Talent VG: DL,LB G: RB, Rec,OL,K F: QB I hang on to Coach Harvey Chapman. His ratings: EX: None VG: QB,RB,DL,DB,K,Off,Avd Inj., OL G: REC,Young Talent,Motivation,Disc.,Def Play Call F: None P: LB Ticket Price/Franchise Player No change in ticket prices. Here they are: Upper Deck: 60 End Zone: 60 Mezzanine: 80 Sidelines: 95 License: 0 Club Seats: 3,000 Luxury Boxes: 200,000 VR Boxes: 200,000 I designate RB Joe Washington as my Franchise Player. Free Agency Period Much better situation than last year. I need $8.4M for the draft and am $57.2M under the cap. I'd like to re-sign TE Frederickson and get a big-time WR. However, there is no big-time WR available. With lots of money available, I go with "best available," grabbing a stud DT named Cornelius St. Amal for $71M over 5 years. He'll anchor the DL for me. Frederickson re-signs for $20.09M over 3 years Here's who I get in the later weeks: CB Nicky Bauman WR Kris James I also sign my franchise player, RB Washington, to a 2yr,$21.5M deal. Amateur Draft 1(22): LB Jim Snider 27/80,32/86,32/91,30/94,43. The only thing that concerns me is his low endurance. 2(22): RB Charles Higbee. Good backup for the next 2 years to Washington, by then he should be ready to shine. 3(22): TE Blake Cucina. Could start one day. 4(22): K Chris Hawes. Has high ratings all across. I'll cut my current one. 5(22): LB Anthony Coleman. Good pass rusher. Pretty decent all around. Drafting two decent LB's may allow me to cut an overpaid starter. 6(22): RB Artie Fitzgerald. Decent redliner. 7(22): G Heath Sellers. One of my starting guards, Jermaine Walters, is overpaid for his weak performances. Thinking about cutting him. Sellers might even start at RG. I go ahead and cut Jermaine Walters. His ratings have remained decent, but his performance has been weak. His KrBPct was 19.4 his first season with me, 22.9 last year, and he gave up 7 sacks each season. Not enough performance for a guy costing me $8M in cap room. Bye-bye, Jermaine. Cutting him gives me room to sign players to get up to 53. Among these is one RFA who I sign to a 2-year deal, backup center Otis Lewis. Post Training Camp No busts or breakouts. #1 pick Snider's ratings remained almost identical to pre-training camp. Here's the roster: From the desk of B.J. Nix of the Richmond SkyDogs Roster Rating is 88, Philadephia is 100. Next-highest team is Carolina with a 58. Expectations are that we'll be the class of the league alongside Philly. --------------------------------------------- End of Regular Season Very nice season. Despite LB Jesse Grant playing in only 3 games due to a broken jaw, we go 12-4 and win the NFC East for the first time! Our blitzing defense netted us a league-high 52 sacks! Key numbers: QB LaTendresse--272 for 474 (57.3%) 3333 yds, 20TD's, 21INT's, 74.7 QB Rtg. Too many interceptions, but he got it done when we needed it. RB Fitzgerald--125 for 530 yards (4.2ypc) 3TD's RB Washington--166 for 707 yards (4.2ypc) 2TD's WR James--77 catches for 917 yds, 10TD's WR Weydahl--54 catches for 733 yds, 3TD's WR Terry--40 catches for 547 yds, 3TD's TE Frederickson--51 catches for 661 yrds, 4TD's Points Scored: 391 Points Against: 273 Rushing Yards: 1853 (13th) Passing Yards: 3534 (15th) Rushing Defense: 1502 (9th) Passing Defense: 3733 (24th) Defense improved. I'd like to get a big-time WR to help improve my offense. Playoff Report I extend one contract: G George St. John Wild Card Round BYE: 2 points 2nd Round vs. New Orleans We lock up in a defensive battle with the defending Super Bowl champs. QB LaTendresse gets knocked out of the game in the first quarter, but our defense keeps it close. We kick a 24-yard field goal to tie it up 10-10 with 20 seconds left in regulation. However, New Orleans connects on a 50-yard TD pass on their first overtime possession to win the game and advance to the NFC Championship. Tampa Bay beats Miami 37-6 to win the Super Bowl. Awards K Ed Walker: 1st Team All Pro (36 FG in 44 attempts, 36 for 37 PAT's) TE Frederickson: 2nd Team All Pro (stats above) T Kreiger: 2nd Team All Pro (18 for 78 KRB, 5 sacks in 420 pass plays, 22.0 OPct) Herb's Ratings Performance: 87 Frnc. STAFF HIRING PERIOD I stick with B.J. Nix as scout. His ratings: EX: DB,Young Talent VG: DL,LB G: Rec,OL,K F: QB, RB I also hang on to Coach Harvey Chapman. His ratings: EX: None VG: QB,RB,OL,DL,DB,K,Motivation,OffPlay Call,Avd Inj. G: REC,Young Talent,Disc.,Def Play Call F: None P: LB Ticket Price/Franchise Player I lost over $90M last year while making the playoffs, so methinks its time to raise ticket prickes. Here they are: Upper Deck: 70 End Zone: 70 Mezzanine: 90 Sidelines: 105 License: 0 Club Seats: 4,000 Luxury Boxes: 250,000 VR Boxes: 250,000 Franchise Player History 2017: NONE 2018: NONE 2019: NONE 2020: S Deron Newton 2021: RB Joe Washington 2022: WR Lawrence Terry Free Agency Period Looks like my first year with BIG-TIME cap problems. I enter free agency with $4.3M room under the cap and I need $8.8M for the draft. The good news is that if necessary I can get by with my current personnel as starters, although I would like to improve at Free Safety. I begin to improve my salary cap situation by checking all of the guys in the last year of their contract to see who will renegotiate a deal that offers them less cap money. Here's who gets re-signed at this point and approximately how much cap room each deal saves: LB Jesse Grant: $800K S Deron Newton: $1M FB Dale Gullett: $700K I also made a few cuts, all guys in the last year of their contract: G George St. John: $2.15M. Heath Sellers is ready to take over. LB Scott Clements: $6.34M. With LB Grant injured most of last year, Jim Snider got a chance to show his stuff. With Grant healthy, Clements is the odd man out at LB. CB Nicky Bauman: $6.86M. With cap room as tight as it is, I can't afford to pay a backup as much as I was paying Bauman. All of this leaves me with $25.2M in cap room available with $8.8M needed for the draft. I estimate that I can afford to spend only $5.5M in cap room on free agents this year. With two pretty solid WR's under contract, I am willing to let franchise player Terry go if I can find a starting safety (and besides, I'd have to cut another player or two to be able to afford Terry anyway). I make an offer on a 5th year safety from that fits my estimated salary availability, and he signs with me! He is Freddy Henry. His key ratings are 66/82,74/93,68/89,42, and his overalls are 64/78. I make no offers in the later weeks. Amateur Draft This is the first year I go into the draft with no big-time holes to fill. I do need a punter, and it would be nice to get a solid 3rd wide receiver. Otherwise I just need depth. Here's who I draft: 1(34): WR Mitch McDaniel. He has an 87 rating in 3rd-Down Catching, and potentials of 75 in catching and 97 in catch frequency. Looks like that 3rd WR I was looking for. 2(34): LB Charlie Peek. Should be a solid LB. With LB's getting old he'll be good to have. 3(34): P Edgar Bostick. Needed one. Got one. He's a good one. 4(34): C Geoff Alameda. 22/70,17/60,74. Should develop into a solid starter in a couple of years. 5(34): LB Doug Page. Pretty decent redliner to provide depth this year. 6(34): G Dennis Lyght. 10/43,8/56,38. Will back up for me. 7(34): G Ernie Corbett. Redliner to provide depth this year. Overall I feel pretty good about the draft. I sign RFA's to get me up to 53. Post Training Camp No real busts or breakouts. #1 pick McDaniel's ratings went up in 3rd down catching, but dropped in catching and catch frequency, but no huge moves. Here's the roster: From the desk of B.J. Nix of the Richmond SkyDogs Roster Rating is 89, Philadephia is 100. Next-highest team is Carolina with 80, then it drops down to low 60's and below. Expectations remain high. We sold 68,500 season tickets. ----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- End of Regular Season We started the year 1-4. QB LaTendresse was struggling, and RB Charles Higbee got off to a slow start as the starter. We switched to a run-oriented offense and inserted Joe Washington at RB with a 7 for playing time and man did it pay off! We ripped off 10 straight wins and finished 11-5 and made it to the playoffs as a Wild Card team!Key numbers: QB LaTendresse--208 for 369 (56.3%) 2685 yds, 18TD's, 8INT's, 86.5 QB Rtg. Missed 3 games due to injuries. Was much better when the defensive focus was on the running game. RB Washington--256 for 1289 yards (5.0ypc) 9TD's. This was done in only 11 starts, too! WR James--84 catches for 1080 yds, 9TD's WR McDaniel--54 catches for 763 yds, 6TD's DE Freddie Sperr--14 sacks, 2 blocks, 11 hurries Points Scored: 358 Points Against: 306 Rushing Yards: 1929 (9th) Passing Yards: 3737 (9th) Rushing Defense: 1502 (3rd) Passing Defense: 3494 (19th) Good performance offensively and defensively. Playoff Report I extend three contracts: C Kevin Hadavi T Byron Krieger RB Joe Washington Wild Card Round vs. San Francisco The 49ers came in and shut down the Washington Express. RICHMOND SKYDOGS 2023
STAFF HIRING PERIOD I stick with the same Coach and Scout. Their updated ratings: HEAD COACH Harvey Chapman SCOUT B.J. Nix Ticket Price/Franchise Player I cut my losses from $90M two years ago to $48,9M last year. My fan loyalty is at 82, so I think I can raise prices again. Here they are: (Washington prices in parenthesis.) Upper Deck: 80 (82) End Zone: 75 (79) Mezzanine: 100 (103) Sidelines: 125 (156) License: 0 (0) Club Seats: 4,000 (5,300) Luxury Boxes: 250,000 (262,000) VR Boxes: 250,000 (n/a) Franchise Player History 2017: NONE 2018: NONE 2019: NONE 2020: S Deron Newton 2021: RB Joe Washington 2022: WR Lawrence Terry 2023: DT Fernando Argentati Free Agency Period I enter Free Agency with $55.8M room under the cap with $9.1M needed for the draft. I have six UFA’s. They are: LB Kerry O’Neal: can be replaced by one of two young LB’s who look ready to go. WR Emmanuel Weydahl: I have two other starter-quality WR’s on the roster. I’ll let him go. CB Kendrick Hanson: A pretty good cover corner. Only gave up 20 catches in 16 starts. Gotta keep him. DE Mickey Kendrick: I’d like to re-sign him. G Drew Glenn: 1st Team All Pro, 37.9 career KRBP. Gotta hang on to him. DT Fernando Argentati: Franchised him. Another starter, G Heath Sellers, is an RFA. He had a good year, (40.5KRBP) and I’d like to re-sign him. After re-signing Argentati to a 5-year, $74M deal that costs me $11.6M in cap room this year, I renegotiate with QB LaTendresse, who is in the last year of his contract. He signs a four-year, $54.5M deal that saves me $7.5M in cap room this year. I am left with $51.73M in cap room with $9.1M needed for the draft. I want to sign my four remaining key players (Hanson, Kendrick, Glenn and Sellers) and that will fill all of my starting positions. I estimate that I can only afford to spend $28M in cap room to fill these four slots. These guys are going to cost more than I can afford, so I need to cut a few backups. Here’s who gets let go: DT John Enis: 1.53M LB Doug Page: $970K G Ernie Corbett: $970K Finally I renegotiate with TE Frederickson. He signs a 3yr deal that saves me $2.84M in cap room. I now sign RFA G Sellers. I am left with about $26M to spend on G,DE and CB. Glenn, Kendrick and Hanson want about $32M in 1st-year cap $$$. I decide to go after a cheaper option who my scout rates better at DE, Gene Roybal from Cincy, and try to re-sign G Glenn and CB Hanson. Both Hanson and Roybal sign elsewhere in week 3 (and so does DE Kendrick). At this point there aren’t any more top-tier guys worth their asking price at DE, so I go after a CB, Devin Valentino from Arizona. However, Valentino goes to Denver in Week 6. The final slap in the face happens when G Glenn, he of a 90 loyalty rating, signs with Pittsburgh for only $1M more over 4 years than I was offering in Week 7! There is a good-looking guard named Gilbert Small who I go after immediately now. He signs with me in Week 9. There is no one worthy of their salary demand left at CB or DE, so I’m done. To recap this crazy free agency period, here’s who I sign: G Sellers (re-signed) DT Argentati (franchisee, re-signed) G Small (Week 9 UFA from Green Bay) Amateur Draft I’m left looking for youngsters to step in and start at CB and DE. Here's who I draft: 1(30): CB Nick Clements—(34/83,29/64,39/75) Barring him being a bust, he’ll start at CB. 2(30): DE Jessie Logan—(21/58,10/30,38) Should start at DE. 3(30): T Scottie Kidman—pretty decent tackle 4(30): G Earl Proctor—now I have nice depth at Guard. 5(30): DT Omar Browning—good depth for the middle of the DL. Might start one day. 6(30): QB Mike Toth—I need a backup QB. 7(30): RB Spence Harper—Scout rates him fairly high. Mediocre draft this year I think. I sign youngsters to get me up to 53. Post Training Camp No busts or breakouts. Here's the roster: From the desk of B.J. Nix of the Richmond SkyDogs Roster Rating is 95, Philadephia is 100. Next-highest team is Pittsburgh with 70, then it drops down to 58 and below. Expectations remain high, but I have two rookie starters on defense. We sold 71,700 season tickets. ----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- End of Regular Season 10-5-1 and we get the Wild Card Playoff Birth. The NFC East was TOUGH this year, with Richmond, Washington, New York and Philly all turning in winning seasons. Key numbers: QB LaTendresse—219 for 382 (57.3%) 2939 yds, 15TD's, 15INT's, 78.6 QB Rtg. Played hurt in several games this year, but managed to start all 16. RB Washington--171 for 637 yards (3.7ypc) 4TD's. 10 starts. RB Higbee—162 for 684 yards (4.2ypc) 5TD’s. 6 starts. WR James--74 catches for 1304 yds, 3TD's WR McDaniel--70 catches for 807 yds, 6TD's TE Frederickson—48 catches for 620 yds, 5TD’s LB Grant—103 tackles S Newton—10 interceptions, 56.7PDQ Points Scored: 353 Points Against: 301 Rushing Yards: 2006 (6th) Passing Yards: 3573 (17th) Rushing Defense: 1621 (12th) Passing Defense: 3285 (8th) Good performance offensively and defensively. Playoff Report I extend two contracts: WR Kris James—Duh. Look at his numbers. T Pete Wallace Wild Card Round vs. San Francisco Last year the Niners beat us in the Wild Card Round. We have a rematch with them this year. RB Washington plays hurt and gets hurt early, and backup Higbee likewise. TE Frederickson has a big day for us though, with 6 catches for 89 yards, and we win 16-13 on a last-second FG. Divisional Playoffs vs. Portland We go on the road with our top two running backs listed as doubtful. LaTendresse throws 3 INT’s and we lose 37-24. Portland goes on to beat the Jets 31-17 to win the Super Bowl. Awards TE Frederickson—1st Team All Pro (stats above) WR James—1st Team All Pro (stats above) P Bostick—1st Team All-Pro: 44.2 yard average, 36 punts inside the 20. DT St. Amal—1st Team All-Pro—53 tackles, 25 assists, 7 sacks, 2 blocks, 2 hurries, Herb's Ratings Performance: 73 Frnc. STAFF HIRING PERIOD Both my coach’s and scout’s contracts run out. I re-sign my coach but get a new scout. Here they are: HEAD COACH Harvey Chapman SCOUT Harvey Hinds Ticket Price/Franchise Player My losses increased by $9M from two years ago to last year. My fan loyalty rose to 85 despite last year’s ticket hike, so I think its time to get prices up to match the ‘Skins. Here they are: (Washington prices in parenthesis.) Upper Deck: 85 (85) End Zone: 81 (81) Mezzanine: 104 (104) Sidelines: 158 (158) License: 0 (0) Club Seats: 5,400 (5,400) Luxury Boxes: 272,000 (272,000) VR Boxes: 272,000 (n/a) Franchise Player History 2017: NONE 2018: NONE 2019: NONE 2020: S Deron Newton 2021: RB Joe Washington 2022: WR Lawrence Terry 2023: DT Fernando Argentati 2024: NONE (No UFA’s) Free Agency Period I enter Free Agency with $20.16M room under the cap with $9.38M needed for the draft. I have no UFA’s. I am going to stand pat, but I need to free up about $5M more for the undrafted guys to fill out my roster. I’ve got cheaper options at guard, so I cut Heath Sellers who had a subpar year last year as a starter. This saves me $8M in cap room, giving me plenty of room. I abstain from free agents this year. Amateur Draft I’m ok with all of my starters. I DO need some youth at LB and S with Grant and Newton in their 13th and 12th seasons respectively. Here’s who I draft: 1(30): S Norbert Cain—high INT rating and M2M defense. Heir apparent to Newton at FS. 2(30): LB J.R. Monroe—high run defense potential rating (95). Solid elsewhere. Heir apparent to Grant at MLB. 3(30): LB Ray Dearin—solid all-around potentials at LB. Could be a relatively cheap option in a couple of years. 4(30): FB Dixon Reynolds—has a 90 potential in run blocking and 81 in ypc. Nice! 5(30): QB Reuben Dugan—pretty decent numbers (high 30’s to 60’s) all around, and a 97 potential in passing accuracy. 6(30): DT Dominic Lemons—11/63,10/58,71. New scout is excellent at DL, so I’m going to trust him here for a potentially very good player this late in the draft. 7(30): WR Anthony Abrams—Filler. I feel good about this draft. I sign youngsters to get me up to 53 afterward. Post Training Camp No busts or breakouts. Here's the roster: From the desk of Harvey Hinds of the Richmond SkyDogs Roster Rating is 100, Philadephia is next at 80. Next-highest team is Pittsburgh with 77, then it drops down to 60 and below. STAFF HIRING PERIOD LB Grant suffered a Long Term injury in game 15 last season, and not surprisingly, he retired I keep my coach and scout. Here they are: HEAD COACH Harvey Chapman SCOUT Harvey Hinds Ticket Price/Franchise Player My losses last year were nearly $90M. I have several UFA’s. The ones I’d like to figure out how to keep are FB Gullett, S Newton and of course franchise CB McElroy. I also need a stud LB to replace the retired Grant. To save some cap room, I go ahead and re-sign the following guys who are in their last year: DT Cornelius St. Amal T Byron Krieger T Pete Wallace S Freddie Henry I also make the following cuts: S Coles DT Browning This should give me the cap room to do what I need to do. I make the following offers to my guys: FB Gullett: 3yrs,$16.25M (signs with me in Week 4) CB McElroy 5yrs,$78.5M (signs immediately—Franchise Player) S Newton: 2yrs,$15M (signs with me in Week 7) I also go after Free Agent LB Phillip Blair. I offer him $42M over 4 years. He accepts in Week 9. Amateur Draft I’m happy with all of my starters. I ‘d like to start grooming a QB with LaTendresse entering his 13th season. Here’s who I draft: 1(19): DT Jeff Watkins—58/84,61/67,81—Man I hope he doesn’t bust. My scout and coach are both excellent at defensive line. 2(19): WR Buddy Lankford—Good possession receiver. 3(19): WR Charlie Whiting—Another possession receiver. 4(19): TE O.J. Krupp—Pretty good run blocking and pass catching potential ratings. 5(19): QB K.C. Kelley—Passing potential ratings range from 46 to 82. Only real drawback is the 35 in 3rd Down Passing. 6(19): C Ricardo Sweazy—Need a backup there. 7(19): RB Adam Morris—Depth. After the draft I cut QB Mike Toth since I only carry 3 QB’s. I then sign youngsters to get me up to 53 afterward. Post Training Camp No major busts or breakouts. 1st Round pick DT Watkins improved from 58/84,61/67,81 to 58/70,66/96,78 and 5th round pick QB K.C. Kelley’s ratings dropped somewhat. What’s amazing is our line only gave up 21 sacks all season long, and only 14 when LaTendresse was in the game. RB Washington--331 for 1645 yards (4.9ypc) 15TD's. Just pounded it at ‘em! Nice drafts the past two years - that QB you took in 2025 looks like a potential starter.
The crash you suffered is exactly what plagued me the last two seasons - finish a season, go to look at Individual Statistics, and BAM -- crash - not a system halter - just enough to shut down the game... I like the smashmouth style you have going ...you should have known your QB would have been an injury-pansy with a last name like that

STAFF HIRING PERIOD No retirees. I keep my coach and scout. Here they are: HEAD COACH Harvey Chapman SCOUT Harvey Hinds Ticket Price/Franchise Player My losses last year went up to $115.7M. My fan loyalty rose to 94. The good news is that the ‘Skins had a big ticket price hike. I bump ‘em up as well, but not as much as Washington: (Washington prices in parenthesis.) Krupp looks adequate if not) *WR McDaniel—Franchise Tag *WR James—He’s getting old, but had over 900 yards last year. We’ll see who else is out there. LB Peek—would not have started this season anyway I also have a RFA who I’d like to re-sign, G Earl Proctor. Finally, DE Jesse Logan is an RFA, but asking for too much, so I’d like to find a new DE. Renegotiations To Save Cap Room G Small--$21.1M, 3years K Hawes--$9.37M, 3 years Cuts To Save Cap Room None. Re-signings WR McDaniel—4yrs, $55.5M (Franchisee) TE Frederickson—1yr, $7.08M (Week 10) FB Dixon Reynolds-- New UFA’s G Dennis Lyght—3yrs, $9M (Week 4) Amateur Draft I am in need of a starter at DE and a young QB to develop would be nice. I’ll go with one of my draftees from last year at WR. Here’s who I draft: 1(30): DE Gus McCain. He is a redliner with 39,46,50 skills. Since I’m in need of a DE and none of the leading future potential DE’s look all that good anyway, I go with the best available current value. Even as a #1 pick, he’ll be cheaper than a veteran FA. Unless he breaks out, he probably won’t be re-signed at the end of his contract. 2(30): DE Brenden Hicks. 10/44,14/64,54. Should be a nice backup DE. 3(30): G Jesse Razt 31/76,24/60,35. Good backup/potential starter. 4(30): RB Julio O’Neill. Redliner with 70 endurance, 53 breakaway speed and 54 3rd down running. 5(30): WR Frank Tisdall. Pretty decent ratings/potential except for 7 in yards per catch. Short receiver. 6(30): LB Dwight Heimburger. Redliner. 7(30): CB Harris Stuart. 79 interception rating. After the draft I sign youngsters to get me up to 53. Post Training Camp No major busts or breakouts. 1st Round pick DE McCain added slight potential ratings, improving from 39,46,50 to 39/43,46/54,50 and 3rd Round Pick G Jesse Razt improved from 31/76,24/60,35 to 38/82,24/64,40. Roster Rating is 100, Philadephia is next at 66. Everyone else is 54 and under. Its time this team starts living up to expectations. We sold 76,000 season tickets. ----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- End of Regular Season RB Washington went down in Game 7 to arthroscopic surgery, then backup Donaldson did likewise. We had switched to a heavy passing offense and Donaldson has good pass-catching ratings so that hurt us as well. We went 9-7 and missed the playoffs with a last-game loss against Division Champ Arizona. We went into the game one game behind and would have been Division Champs had we won. We lost 24-22. The key numbers: QB LaTendresse—272 for 468 (58.1%) 3399 yds, 20TD's, 10INT's, 86.1 QB Rtg. Another solid season. He surpassed 30,000 yards and 200 TD passes this year for his career. RB Washington—140 for 628 yards (4.4ypc) 5TD's. 7 starts. Was on his way to another strong season. WR Lankford--58 catches for 798 yds, 5TD's WR McDaniel—66 catches for 953yds, 6TD's WR Whiting—52 catches for 685 yds, 4TD’s (nice for 3rd WR) Points Scored: 339 Points Against: 294 Rushing Yards: 2003 (6th) Passing Yards: 3496 (23rd) Rushing Defense: 1548 (9th) Passing Defense: 3567 (18th) Lowered my blitzing tendencies. RETIREES S Deron Newton retired. He was a great one for us. I acquired him in the expansion draft in 2017 and he was with us for 10 seasons. His banner year was 2023, when he had 10 interceptions and was Defensive Player of the Year. He finishes his career with 58 interceptions and 953 tackles. Safety was my deepest position. Re-signings During 20-step Process FB Tommy Sims—3 yrs, $4.73M. RFA looks like a solid backup at a good price. TE O.J. Krupp—1 yr, $7M. RFA gets a shot to prove himself as the starting TE, provided we can’t draft one. C Hadavi—3yrs, $30.73M. Week 3 QB Tim LaTendresse—Franchise Player. 4yrs, $82M. New UFA’s During 20-Step Process T Winston Ledesma—3yrs, $7.25M. 2nd year man with 6/42, 6/43,42 ratings. Capable backup for a good price. Week 9 G Kendall Morrison—4yrs, $9.35M.2nd year man with 90 potential in run blocking. Week 11. Amateur Draft All starting positions are filled. I could use youth at QB, RB and FB, and if a young stud is available at TE or LB he could perhaps earn a starting spot. 1(23): TE Thomas Perkins. One of those all-around talented TE’s. His lowest rating is a 60 in 3rd down catching. All others either potential or current is in 80’s and 90’s. Glad I only signed Krupp to a one-year deal. If Perkins doesn’t bust, he’ll be a BIG part of my offense. 2(23): CB Duane Wilkerson. High INT rating (96) and potentials of 65 and 62 in MTM and Zone make him an ideal nickel back. 3(23): FB Lawrence Winters. Potentials in the 60’s-80’s. 4(23): RB A.J. Cleeland. 93 potential in yards per carry. 5(23): WR Travis Burgess. Redliner. 6(23): QB Perry Upshaw. Pretty decent potential ratings. 7(23): LB George Gomez. 9/63, 3/37, 8/56, 3/28, 46. Not bad for round 7. After the draft Pittsburgh offers a 1st round draft choice and a LB they drafted in round 7 for DT Cornelius St. Amal. St. Amal is in his 12th season and DT is my deepest position with Argentati signed through 2030 and Watkins through 2029. I pull the trigger on the trade. I then sign youngsters to get the roster up to 53. Post Training Camp No major busts or breakouts. Had a few slight improvements. Here’s the roster: From the desk of Harvey Hinds of the Richmond SkyDogs Roster Rating is 100, Philadephia is next at 81. Five teams between 67 and 79. We sold 75,400 season tickets. ----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- End of Regular Season Ugh. Second straight year missing the playoffs. Worse, we didn’t even have a winning season. We went 7-9. The key numbers: QB LaTendresse—247 for 432 (57.1%) 3160 yds, 21TD's, 16INT's, 80.9 QB Rtg. Not bad, but a little high on INT’s RB Washington—264 for 1164 yards (4.4ypc) 9TD's. 7 starts. Nice rebound season from injury. He ends the year with 9,994 yards rushing in his career. WR Lankford--80 catches for 1002 yds, 7TD's WR McDaniel—69 catches for 891yds, 7TD's TE Perkins—40 catches for 592yds, 3TD’s. Nice performance from the rookie. RETIREES None. STAFF HIRING PERIOD I keep my head coach, but there is a scout available with outstanding ratings. I hire him. Here they are: HEAD COACH Harvey Chapman SCOUT Alan Behrendt Ticket Price/Franchise Player My losses last year were $138M. My fan loyalty remained at 98. The ‘Skins prices stayed the same. We’ll see who else is out there. *LB J. R. Monore—He has yet to impress me. I’ll probably look elsewhere for a starter. *LB Ray Dearing—He has performed better than his ratings. We’ll see. The draft is very deep at LB. CB Nick Clements—He hasn’t covered all that well. 3rd CB Wilkerson could be ready to start, or if I have the funds I’ll look for a UFA. *S Norbert Cain—Franchisee. Re-signings During 20-step Process RB Washington—3 years, $37M. He just keeps rolling along. S Norbert Cain—3 yrs, $19.7M. Franchisee. New UFA’s During 20-Step Process LB Emmanuel Harmon. 4 yrs, $44M. 7th year man. 2 time All-Pro. Ratings range from 71 to 94. What’s there NOT to like? Week 2 T Kyle Compton. 4yrs, $10.5M. 2nd year guy with 19/67, 18/66, 57 ratings. Week 11. Amateur Draft I’m in need of a starting linebacker, plus I could still use a good young QB. I have an extra pick in the first round due to last year’s trade with Pittsburgh 1(12): LB Norman McNeely. 38/82, 48/100, 44/100, 89. This guy looks like an offense wrecker. If he pans out, I have 3 all-star linebackers. 1(30): RB Shawn Papadopulos. They called him “The Galloping Greek” at TCU. He has 100’s in breakaway speed and carrying, 93 potential in yards per carry, 100 potential in short yardage. The only drawback is his 48 in endurance. 2(12): QB Donny Broomfield. 62 in 3rd Down Passing. All of his potentials are from 49 (short passes) to 69 (screen passes). Looks like I finally have a viable option to replace LaTendresse when he retires. 3(12): FB Gabe Neely. He could be a VITAL part of our offense in the coming years. 100 potential in ypc, 75 in run blocking, 80 in short yardage and catching. 4(12): RB Anthony Samuels. In case the Galloping Greek fizzles out, this guy has 100 potential in ypc and 90 endurance. Could be a workhouse back. 5(12): QB Eddie Barker. Another pretty solid-looking QB to help prepare us for LaTendresse’s retirement. 6(12): TE Marlon Jamison. Pretty good backup. 7(12): G Bubba Connell. Pretty good for this late. 9/42, 10/42, 56. I sign youngsters to get the roster up to 53. Post Training Camp No major busts or breakouts. Had a few slight improvements. I am offered a trade by Baltimore of a 6th round choice for FB Winters. With Neely having been drafted, and Gullet still around, I make the trade and pick up another 1st year guy to fill the roster slot. Here’s the roster: From the desk of Allen Behrendt of the Richmond SkyDogs Right after training camp, I make a couple of cuts at positions where I have extra players and then pick up other players at other positions to keep the roster at 53. I cut QB Upshaw and WR Tisdall, both due to youngsters stepping in who are better than they are. Roster Rating is 100. Four teams between 64 and 72 are closest. We sold 75,400 season tickets. ----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- End of Regular Season Yes, sports fans, my THIRD straight non-playoff season. I’m beginning to think LaTendresse is a big part of the problem. He seems to always either get hurt or have a bad game against the good teams, and put up great numbers against the bad teams. The key numbers: QB LaTendresse—228 for 413 (55.2%) 2832 yds, 15TD's, 9INT's, 79.6 QB Rtg. However, most of the damage was done against bad teams. RB Papadopulos—192 for 795 yds (4.1ypc) 9TD’s RB Samuels—147 for 706 yds (4.8ypc) 4TD’s RB Washington—98 for 347 yards (3.5) 1TD. With the backs being so close in scout assessment, I used a 3-back rotation that was quite effective. WR McDaniel—75 catches for 866yds, 4TD's WR Whiting—53 catches for 672 yds, 3 TD’s TE Perkins—40 catches for 631yds, 4TD’s. Nice performance from the rookie. RETIREES None. LaTendresse sticks around for yet ANOTHER season! He’s 41 now. Still hate to see an original SkyDog go. *C Hadavi—another original SkyDog. Still one of the best centers in the league G Razt—Franchise Player Also, starting CB Wilkerson is a RFA. I am offered a trade for G Bubba Connell, a backup. Manchester offers a backup TE named Morris Singer who is better than my current backup TE and a 5th round draft choice. I make the trade. Renegotiations To Save Cap Room DE Sperr—3 years, $24.83M DT Argentati—3yrs, $28.21M K Hawes—3yrs, $8.88M Cuts To Save Cap Room RB Washingon—hate to do it to a guy who rushed for over 10,000 yards for me, but it saved me $8.5M in cap room. WR Lankford—a 3rd WR shouldn’t be costing me $10M in an offense with a strong TE. G Hastings—saved $2.36M S Larry Jordan—saved over $3M TE Jamison—with Singer around, no need for Jamison. Cheaper than re-signing Wilkerson, and he’s been a better player so far in his 5 year career. Week 3 Amateur Draft My biggest needs is for a 3rd WR. Otherwise, I’ll just go after best-availables since I can use solid backups in lot of positions 1(29): QB Dixon Dorf—Talk about good timing. My other 2 young QB’s are in the last year of their contracts and have yet to see significant playing time so I won’t want to pony up the big bucks to keep ‘em signed. Dorf’s potentials are better than either of them, ranging from 58 to 84 with a 70 current rating in 3rd down passing. The TRUE heir apparent to the ageless wonder LaTendresse. 2(29): S Jeremy Copeland. 25/69, 25/63, 20/62, 76. Solid Safety. 3(29): WR Allen Carpenter. Solid ratings across the board. Good 3rd WR. 4(29): DE Charles Sells. 9/48, 6/36, 59. 5(19): G Blaine Simmons. 14/64, 14/60, 34. If his endurance increases a bit, he could be a starter. 5(29): WR Edward Masterson. 4th WR. 6(29): C Spencer Harding. 13/53, 16/56, 52. Too solid to pass up this late. 7(29): DT Harry Marsh. 15/40, 14/36, 41. After the draft, I cut 4th QB Barker and sign youngsters to get the roster up to 53. The 41-year-old had a fine year, despite missing 4 starts due to injury. Amazing how getting him some decent receivers has improved his numbers, even at his ancient age. QB Dorf—64 for 124 (51.6%) 747 yds, 6 TD’s, 3 INT’s. 76.2 QB Rating. Starting 4 games this year should help speed his development along. RB Papadopulos—146 for 456 yds (3.1ypc) 4TD’s. Divisional Playoffs San Diego 13, Indianapolis 6 Tennessee 21, Pittsburgh 20 Tampa Bay 22, Portland 13 Richmond 37, Greensboro 27 This time we played a little “bend-but-don’t-break” on defense. RICHMOND SKYDOGS 2033
RETIREES C Kevin Hadavi finally hangs ‘em up. Hadavi was an original SkyDog. Drafted in the 3rd Round in 2017, Hadavi was a starter from day 1 and a solidifying force as well. At the time of his retirement he had the 5th-highest OPct of any active player at 23.4, and he was consistent: his lowest ever was 19.5. He was a 4-time All-Pro, the center of our running game, and he holds the All-Time league record for most Key Run Blocks with 486. He started 240 games. He will be missed. RETIREES T Byron Krieger—Krieger, the last of the original SkyDogs, finally hangs ‘em up after 17 seasons in Richmond. He was our very first draft choice, drafted 1(1) in 2017. He started from Day 1, logging 253 starts as a SkyDog. He was a 3-time All-Pro with a career Opct of 16.9 and KRB of 32.9. He will be missed. RICHMOND SKYDOGS 2035
HALL OF FAME C Kevin Hadavi is inducted into the team Hall of Fame. He is still the all-time leader in KRB with 486, a record that should stand for quite some time. No active player has over 400. Look back a few messages to the beginning of 2033 for the rest of his numbers. RETIREES WR Mitch McDaniel—He was acquired by me with the 1(34) pick in the 2022 draft and became a full-time starter in his 2nd season. His best overall season was 2024: 86 catches for 1181 yards and 2 TD’s. He finished his career with 809 catches for 10008 yards and 62 TD’s. Despite having a fine overall career, he never was named All Pro. LB Emmanuel Harmon—Harmon was drafted 1(10) by the Steelers in 2022. He played six seasons with the Steelers, and was named 2nd Team All Pro in 2025 and 2026. He was signed as a free agent by the SkyDogs in 2028. He suffered an injury and only played 6 games in 2028, and suffered a ratings drop in 2029 (from 15/16 in 2028 to 13/13 in 2029). He stilled played six more solid seasons for me, racking up 9 sacks in 2029 and 91 tackles in 2032. He finished his career with 005 tackles, 322 assists, 44.5 sacks and a career TkPct of 14.9. STAFF HIRING PERIOD Head Coach Caro’s contract is up. I re-sign him and stick with my scout. The SkyDogs sold 76,400 season tickets for the season out of a capacity of 77,600. Here’s the roster: From the desk of Allen Behrendt of the Richmond SkyDogs ----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- End of Regular Season Key Injuries During The Season QB Dorf pulled his groin in the 3rd regular season game and didn’t start until Game 4. We managed to go 2-1 without him though behind 2nd-year man Everett Prescott. TE Perkins was injured in Game 9 and didn’t come back until the playoffs. With Perkins out, we made some adjustments in our offense for the last seven games, going with 3WR’s more often. RB Papadoplus suffered a sprained neck in Game 13 and didn’t come back until the playoffs. CB Brady Riddle had to have elbow ligament surgery after Game 16 and is out long term. I suspect he’ll retire. Season Recap Well, despite all of our injuries, the things I’ve learned about defense allowed us to finish with a stellar 13-3 record, win our 6th straight division title, and give up less than 200 points in the regular season. Yes, we gave up the 2nd-fewest points in league history, 196, by playing our ferocious, blitzing man-to-man defense. Our defense had 57 sacks and 21 INT’s on the season. The key numbers: QB Dorf—162 for 313 (61.3%) 2359 yds, 13TD's, 3INT’s, 94.4QB Rtg. Top-rated passer in the NFL for the 2nd year in a row! He started 12 games. Sat him out in the 15th game of the season because we clinched division in game 14. Fine season! RB Papadopulos—239 for 1098 yds (4.5ypc) 10TD’s. Missed 3 starts due to injury FB Neeley—113 for 473 yds (4.1ypc) 0TD’s. RB Lester—116 for 413 yds (3.5ypc) 2TD’s WR Covington—47 catches for 718 yds, 6TD's. Philly started drives from inside their own 20 six times, and we started from our 38 or better five times. Conference Championships New England 25, Cleveland 17 Richmond 34, Tampa Bay 13 With RB Papadopulos and TE Perkins now probable, we open it up some. The Galloping Greek gets 18 carries for 98 yards, Covington catches 7 passes for 101 yards, and the defense gets 5 INT’s, 1 sack and holds TB to 222 total yards and 10 first downs. Perkins re-injures his wrist and is now out long-term. I hope he doesn’t decide to retire. On to the Super Bowl again! Super Bowl Richmond 9, New England 6 THREE-PEAT BABY!!!! This one was tied 6-6 with 0:51 seconds left as the Patriots took over after a punt on their own 5. Instead of trying to run out the clock, the AI threw three incomplete passes then punted. Punt returner Klemen promptly hauled the ball back to the New England 20 yard line. After one play, Hawes hits a 37-yard field goal as time expires and we’re World Champs once again! CB Ross Reeves is the MVP. He played 34 pass plays against their best receiver and gave up only 1 catch and picked off a pass. RICHMOND SKYDOGS 2036
HALL OF FAME No new SkyDogs in Team or NFL. RETIREES WR Marlon Covington—He was acquired by me via free agency last year. He played 13 seasons prior to that for Portland. He finishes his career with 1003 catches for 15,142 yards and 101 TD’s. He is 11th all time in receptions, 4th in receiving yards, and 4th in TD’s. A stellar career. DE Freddie Sperr—This guy was taken by me with the 1(3) pick waaaayyy back in 2019. He played 17 stellar seasons with the SkyDogs, racking up All Pro honors 4 times. He finished his career with 429 tackles, 196 assists and 177 sacks. He is 2nd All Time in sacks! STAFF HIRING PERIOD Lead Scout Behrendt’s contract is up. He gets signed away for DOUBLE what he was making. I sign a new scout. The update: HEAD COACH Jessie Caro SCOUT Doug Schwab Ticket Price/Franchise Player My losses last year were $84.23M. Amateur Draft I could “get by” at every position with the guys I’ve got as starters, but I’d like to improve in several places, at least for the future. Specifically, WR, C, T, DE and LB. My draft: 1(36): DE Michael Ursino—23/57, 32/100, 80. Could be a big-time pass-rusher and solid run stopper. 2(36): T Kelvin Stokes—38/69,22/51, 74. Looks like a solid RT-type player. 3(36): WR Henry Rayburn—solid ratings for this low: 34/78, 60, 22/51, 85, 27 4(36): G Conrad Lynn—42/98, 20/43, 65. Wow! Could be a star in my run-oriented offense. 5(36): WR Gary Patel—redliner—34,64,26,64,40—even if he doesn’t breakout he should be a solid 3rd-Down receiver for a few years. 6(36): C Bart Clements—10/58,11/47,64—Could develop into a starter. 7(36): G Junior Fleming—16/76, 13/48, 34—Another potential starter. Wow! This could be a banner draft for me if all goes well. Potential starters at 1-7. After the draft I get offered a 3rd-round pick from Manchester for 17-year veteran T Pete Wallace. His endurance rating has dropped to 18 and I have 3 good young tackles, so I pull the trigger. Since Wallace has played for me his entire career, I’ll post his bio now: Pete Wallace was drafted with the 2(28) pick in 2020. He started from his rookie year on. A four-time All Pro, Wallace was a long-time force in our offensive line. His only shortcoming was the thing that ultimately caused me to go ahead and trade him: his low endurance rating. It started at 50 and decreased throughout his career. After the trade, I sign youngsters to get the roster up to 53. Included in these signings is the signing of RFA backup QB Everett Prescott to a 5-year, $77M deal. I’ll cut him if I have to for cap money, but since I can afford him now, why not have a guy around who has performed well in fill-in starts and has some experience in my system? Post Training Camp Yes! My first breakout player! 5th Round Draft choice, redliner Gary Patel, improves to 53/100, 100, 38/70, 90,63!!! Looks like a superstar!. Very modest gains/losses in other draftees. After the draft I am offered a first rounder by Carolina for DE Jesse Collins. With #1 pick Ursino looking good, I make the trade and sign another youngster, DE Arnie Mahaffey, to take Collins’ place on the roster. The SkyDogs sold 76,900 season tickets for the season out of a capacity of 77,600. Here’s the roster: From the desk of Doug Schwab of the Richmond SkyDogs ----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- End of Regular Season Key Injuries During The Season FB Neeley—He had to have elbow ligament surgery after next-to-last preseason game. He didn’t return until Game 15. CB Riddle—Returned from last season’s elbow ligament surgery in first regular season game. WR Patel—Missed 6 games due to various injuries. Season Recap The defense again starred as we finished with a 14-2 record, win our 7th straight division title, and give up the fewest points allowed in the league this season. Our defense had 44 sacks and 26 INT’s on the season. The key numbers: QB Dorf—251 for 418 (60.0%) 3305 yds, 23TD's, 11INT’s, 92.4QB Rtg. Second highest average per pass attempt in the league. Signed in Week 3. Amateur Draft I need a starting LB and I’m starting to age at S, DT and CB. My draft: 1(26): S Travis Wooden—Looks like the next star safety in my man-to-man defense. 44/95, 52/98, 30/64, 34. 1(36): LB Oscar Samuels—Likely starter this season. 34/92, 23/71, 28/75, 23/62, 74. 2(36): RB Mark Jordan—Hey, my scout is only rated fair in RB but I’ve just got to grab this guy at this point. 57/90 in ypc, 61/93 in catch frequency, 86 in endurance, 66 in breakaway speed. Solid for a 7th rounder. After the trade, I sign youngsters to get the roster up to 53. Post Training Camp RB Jordan improves, at least according to my scout who is fair at RB. His endurance climbs to 96, ypc to 57/99, catch frequency to 63/100 Very modest gains/losses in other draftees. The SkyDogs sold 90,000 season tickets for the season out of a capacity of 90,000. New stadium!!! Here’s the roster: From the desk of Roy Lima of the Richmond SkyDogs Interesting stuff. Scout wants to start rookies at RB and S over established veteran starters. Don’t think I’ll do that, but rookies Travis Wooden (S) and Mark Jordan (RB) could see significant playing time. ----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- End of Regular Season Key Injuries During The Season DE Hicks—He had to have arthroscopic knee surgery after game 2. He didn’t return until Game 11 QB Dorf —Missed games 3-7 due to a deep thigh bruise. That’s why I’m paying Prescott. He performed fairly well in Dorf’s absence. [b}WR Smith[/b]—Tore his bicep in Game 10 and was out for the season and the playoffs. RB Jordan—Had 2 different injuries (despite 96 endurance rating) that limited him to only playing in 7 games. Talk about injuries. Seems like every skill position player was hurt for at least part of the year. Here’s a list of regulars and how many games they missed. Wow. QB Dorf—didn’t miss a start, but backup QB played in 8 different games due to various injuries to Dorf. RB Terrell—missed 4 games RB Papadopulos—missed 1 game, played hurt in 3 others RB/WR Jordan—missed 9 games TE Perkins—missed 1 games WR Patel—missed 3 games WR Smith—missed 2 games, will miss all of postseason (long-term injury) G Shanks—missed 9 games G Hall—missed 5 games T Leathers—missed 1 game P Bostick—missed 5 games DT Watkins—missed 1 game CB Bush—missed 5 games I used a variety of combinations at RB/FB/WR due to injuries. With the line banged up, the offense struggles, but the defense shines, holding Arizona to 222 total yards. RB Terrell carries for 76 yards and a TD. Papadopulos sprains his back and is listed as “Out” for the NFC Championship, and WR Patel gets a severe hamstring pull and is out long term. I put him on the IR and sign a WR to replace him on the roster. My G’s are both fully healed after the game, but T Leathers is still questionable. Conference Championships Cleveland 26, New England 21 Richmond 33, New Orleans 20 With both starting WR’s out, Terrell becomes the workhorse back, and RB’s Jordan and Ellard start at WR’s. Terrell responds with 26 carries for 146 yards and a TD, and both Ellard and Jordan catch TD passes. Cain picks off 2 passes, and we’re back in the Super Bowl! Super Bowl Richmond 16, Cleveland 13 MAKE IT SEVEN IN A ROW!!!! Terrell gets shut down to the tune of 20 carries for 29 yards, but Jordan catches 6 passes for 73 yards and the defense comes up big. K Hawes hits a 54-yard FG in overtime and we win yet another Super Bowl. For his clutch, clutch play, Reeves wins his 2nd Super Bowl MVP of his career. Awards FB Keane—1st Team All Pro—He played in 16 games, but only started 9. His 33 catches, (see above stats) distinguished him. K Hawes—1st Team All Pro—36 for 43 FG’s, 40 for 40 PAT. RICHMOND SKYDOGS 2040
HALL OF FAME DE Freddie Sperr goes into the NFL Hall of Fame. Look back a couple of seasons for his final stats. He’s still 2nd All Time in sacks with 177. WR Marlon Covington, who played the final year of his career in Richmond, also goes into the HOF this year. RETIREES Here they come! After 7 straight titles, these guys all decide to hang ‘em up: TE Thomas Perkins—Perkins was drafted by me with the 1(23) pick in 2027, and was starting TE for all 13 seasons of his career in Richmond. He was a 7-Time All Pro. His best season was 2034, when he had 60 catches for 952 yards and 5 TD’s. He finishes his career with 544 catches for 7492 yards and 44 TD’s. RB Shawn Papadopulos—“The Galloping Greek” was drafted by me with the 1(30) pick in 2028 and was Offensive Rookie of the Year that season. He would be our primary running back for the next 12 years. His best season was 2031, when he carried 292 times for 1625 yards and 11TD’s and caught 48 passes for 467 yards and 4 TD’s. For his career, he had 2887 carries for 12989 yards (4.4ypc), and 107 TD’s. He won All Pro honors once, and one Super Bowl MVP Award. S Norbert Cain—Cain was drafted by me with the 1(30) pick in 2024 and became a full-time starter in his 3rd season. He was a 4-time All Pro, and won Defensive Player of the Year twice. His best all-around season was his other-worldly year in 2030. He had 107 tackles, 31 assists and 8 interceptions (4 returned for TD’s). For his career he had 85 interceptions (returning 10 for TD’s) and a 40.8PDQ. In addition he had 1139 tackles and 391 assists. His 85 interceptions is an NFL record. Due to some pretty good planning if I do say so myself, I’ll be able to deal with losing three starters rather seamlessly. In fact, the biggest effect of the retirements will likely be saving cap room. The SkyDogs don’t rebuild. We reload. STAFF HIRING PERIOD I keep the same coach and scout. Here’s the update: HEAD COACH Brad Heard SCOUT Alan Behrendt Ticket Price/Franchise Player I had a $607.88M profit last year. My fan loyalty remained at 100. Here is my draft. 1(36): CB Lance Gladney—29/60, 47/97, 40/80, 32, 87. Looks like my next great M2M cover corner. 2(36): QB Ralph Buckner—Good-looking QB to backup Dorf for nearly the rest of the challenge. 3(36): T Gino Lyle—13/50, 19/58, 78. Future starter? 4(36): G Jonathon Gilmore—19/70, 18/56, 71—Can’t pass a guy like that up at the end of round 4. 5(36): RB Otis Kamnik—redline rookie 6(36): LB Albert Lucas—near redliner 7(36): DE Claude Pulley--redliner After the draft, I sign youngsters to get us up to 53. Post Training Camp My 7th Round Draft pick, DE Claude Pulley, breaks out in a big way! Ratings go up to 34/85, 28/61, 76. 6th-round LB Lucas gets potentials up in to the 50’s as well. Portland offers a WR Nate Oswalt who would be a nice WR3 and a 2nd Round Draft pick for starting DE Ursino. With Pulley breaking out and Tim Williams looking almost ready, I pull the trigger on the deal then cut a WR and sign a 2nd-year DE to a one-year deal to fill the roster slot. The SkyDogs sold 90,000 season tickets for the season out of a capacity of 90,000. Here’s the roster: From the desk of Allen Behrendt of the Richmond SkyDogs RB Jordan and WR Oswalt will split time as the 3rd WR. ----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- End of Regular Season Key Injuries During The Season WR Patel—Broke his hand in the preseason and game 5 was his first. LB McNeely—After the 2nd game of the season he was diagnosed with the dreaded “Repetitive Concussion Syndrome” and listed as Out until next season. His ratings dropped severely, and I assume he’ll retire. I signed a 2nd-year LB to fill the roster spot as I put McNeely on IR. TE Lynch—Stretched a knee ligament in game 5 and didn’t return until game 11. CB Reeves—Pulled his groin in game 5 and didn’t return until game 14. C Curtis got shoulder tendonitis in Game 11 and sat until Game 16. S Kanu tore a thumb ligament in Game 14 and sat until the playoffs. Season Recap Well, at midseason the prospects for an 11th straight NFC East Title looked grim indeed. We were 4-4, and the Eagles were leading the division at 7-1. However, in the 2nd half, all of that youth came together and we ticked off 8 straight wins, including two over Philadelphia, the last one at Philly with the division title on the line. By winning that game, we finished 12-4 and Philly at 11-5. 11 in a row! The key numbers: QB Dorf—250 for 419 (59.6%) 3442 yds, 20TD's,12INT’s, 89.9 QB Rtg. Highest rated passer in the NFL. Carolina gets 195 total yards and 12 first downs. Dorf is 14 for 20 with 1 TD and 0 Int’s. Our defense gets 6 sacks and 3 INT’s. Conference Championships New York Jets 17, Denver 14 Richmond 33, St. Louis 23 The Rams throw early and often against us, their QB going 23 for 40 for 360 yards. However we pick him off twice and sack him 9 times, enough for the victory. Super Bowl New York Jets 27, Richmond 20 AWWWWW SHUCKS! The Jets’ offensive line kept us away from sacking the QB all game long. We only had 2 hurries and one block all day. The Jets throw for 307 yards in their victorious game. Well, it was an outstanding run, but it had to come to an end some time. The good news is that we have the personnel to be back here again with a little luck. Awards RB Terrell—1st Team All Pro—stats above FB Keane—1st Team All Pro—receiving stats above, 32 carries for 48 yards, 1 Td, 16 for 34 KRB, 1 sack allowed. I hope you don't mind me cluttering up your career postings, but I wanted to ask -- maybe I missed it above, or it's in a different thread -- about your defensive strategy.
It sounds like you emphasize blitzing and man-to-man coverage. If you run a 4-3 defense, how do you deal with the potential extra receiver (2 CBs and 2 LBs covering 2 WRs, TE, FB, and HB)? Also, where do you blitz from -- MLB, OLBs, or the secondary? Do you think heavy blitzing hurts your run defense? You've obviously had a very successful defense, yet a strategy that seems to depart from the "DTs stuff the run, Ss pick off the passes" philosophy that others have argued for. |

I don't mind you posting here at all. Nice to know someone is reading. This discussion has to start and end with what I look for in defensive personnel. I *only* look at 2 factors for my CB's and S's: M2M defense and endurance. First and foremost, I want DB's who can stick with their man all over the field all game long. My philosophy is simple: if my 4 DB's can be trusted to cover their best four receivers, then I can use seven guys to harrass the QB and stop the run. To build my defensive line, I first go after DT's who have high ratings in run defense. I don't care about them rushing the passer. They just need to be able to plug up the middle so I can gamble with my MLB on the blitz. I also make sure my DE's are at least decent at run defense. I don't go after these DE's with high pass rush and low run defense skills. As for my blitzing, as I said before, my main blitzer is my MLB. (Notice some of LB McNeely's sack totals in the late 2030's.) It appears that the CPU values run blocking over pass blocking for centers, so the MLB wins this battle (if there is one). So, at that point it is up to stationary back to pick up a great pass-rusher with a full head of steam. I think that is a major disruption to our opponents' offenses. I put my best pass rushing LB at MLB and let him go. I look for guys with decent run defense and M2M defense for my OLB's. Those M2M skills let them pick up the stray RB or FB coming out of the backfield. As for my defensive game plan, it is set at: M2M: 82 Bump and Run: 12 Zones: 2 each There you have it. What results is that despite the fact that I don't even look at INT ratings, my teams consistently are among the league leaders in INT's. I assume that this is because opposing QB's are under constant pressure and are therefore making bad decisions. [This message has been edited by SkyDog (edited 02-12-2001).]

RICHMOND SKYDOGS 2041
HALL OF FAME No new SkyDogs. RETIREES Several. Here there are: K Chris Hawes—Hawes was drafted by me with the 4(22) pick way back in 2021. I had another kicker with better current ratings who was in the last year of his contract that year, so Hawes didn’t see action until 2022. And what action he saw! He was a 5-time All Pro, and finished his career with 556 field goals, an NFL Record by a wide margin. In addition he was 685 for 695 on his extra points. P Edgar Bostick—I drafted him with the 3(34) pick in 2022 and he was my punter from day 1. He was a 4-time All Pro, averaging 43.1 yards per punt over his career. DT Jeff Watkins—I got him with the 1(19) pick in 2025, and was a full-time starter from 2027 on. He won All Pro honors once, in 2030. He played in the middle of that defense that helped us win 7 straight Super Bowls. His career numbers were 440 tackles, 190 assists, 65 sacks, 38 pass blocks and 53 QB hurries. CB Ross Reeves—I signed Reeves as a 5th-year man. He was a UFA from Baltimore, coming off an All-Pro season in 2029. He was classic lock-down corner for me and was a big help in my Super Bowl run. He won 2 Super Bowl MVP’s. In his career, he had 66 INT’s, ran back 8 INT’s for TD’s, gave up 394 catches in 232 games (less than 2 a game and played the other team’s best WR M2M the huge majority of the time). He had a 36.1PDQ. He was a 2-Time All Pro. DE Claude Hicks—Hicks was drafted 1(1) by Minnesota in 2028. He had 9 strong seasons as a Viking before playing his last 4 years starting in Richmond. In his career, he had 112.5 sacks and was an All Pro once. The good news is that I had already drafted future replacements at DT, CB and DE. I’ll have to grab a P or K in free agency, then shore up the other position in the draft. Interestingly enough, LB McNeely doesn’t call it quits and tries to come back from Repetitive Concussive Syndrome at age 37. STAFF HIRING PERIOD I keep the same scout and re-hire my coach. Here’s the update: HEAD COACH Brad Heard SCOUT Alan Behrendt Ticket Price/Franchise Player I had a $485.35M profit last year. My fan loyalty remained at 100. I’d like to keep him. WR Oswalt—3rd WR. I can get someon to fill this role cheaper. RB2 Jordan is fine at WR3 if necessary. *DE Williams—Franchisee. Not a great one though, so if a better option comes along, I may go for it. *DT Marshall—RFA. He’s been solid at DT. Gonna try to keep him. I also need a P and a K. After the draft, I cut G Joe Wilson, then sign youngsters to get us up to 53. Post Training Camp My 3rd Round draft pick, LB Percy Morin, breaks out! His ratings go from 20/27, 20/22, 23/28, 19/23, 51 to 33/79, 27/69, 33/87, 29/71, 84. 6th Round pick RB Swinger breaks out as well, going from being a redliner with no rating higher than 43 to having ypc rating of 50/85 and other high ratings as well. Here’s the roster: From the desk of Allen Behrendt of the Richmond SkyDogs RB Jordan and WR Oswalt will split time as the 3rd WR. ----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- End of Regular Season Key Injuries During The Season LB Willis—He may die hard, but he injures easily. Arthscopic knee surgery after 2nd preseason game. He came back in time to start game 4. LB Mulligan—Broke his wrist in the last preseason game. Hurting for LB’s. The good news is that breakout rookie LB Morin got the early season starts, speeding his development. Season Recap Back to being a dominant team. We go 13-3 and win our 12th straight division championship. The offense is more balanced overall and puts up very nice numbers. The defense remains stellar. The key numbers: QB Dorf—294 for 457 (64.3%) 3842 yds, 27TD's,10INT’s, 101.2 QB Rtg. Highest rated passer in the NFL. 4th-highest passing yardage. Highest yards per attempt (8.40!) S Kanu picks off a long pass late in the 2nd quarter and turns it into an 88-yard TD. Then, with just a little over a minute to play and the Black Squirrels clinging to a 17-14 lead and trying to run out the clock, DE Pulley caused a fumble, and DT Russell picked it up and rambled 66 yards for the winning touchdown! RICHMOND SKYDOGS 2042
HALL OF FAME The following three former SkyDogs enter the team HOF this year: RB Shawn Papadopulos —“The Galloping Greek” was drafted by me with the 1(30) pick in 2028 and was Offensive Rookie of the Year that season. His 85 interceptions is an NFL record that will likely stand for a long time. The current active leader is a 12th-year man with only 53. TE Thomas Perkins-- Perkins was drafted by me with the 1(23) pick in 2027, and was starting TE for all 13 seasons of his career in Richmond. He was a 7-Time All Pro. His best season was 2034, when he had 60 catches for 952 yards and 5 TD’s. He finishes his career with 544 catches for 7492 yards and 44 TD’s. RETIREES Just one…. LB Norman McNeely—He was drafted by me with the 1(12) pick in 2028 and became a starter in his rookie season. He had a brilliant career as the main cog in our potent defense. His best year was 2035 when he had 95 tackles, 39 assists and 16 sacks and was named Defensive Player of the Year. He was a 5-time All Pro. In 2040, his 13th season, he was diagnosed with Repetitive Concussion Syndrome after Game 2 and sat out the rest of the year. He had an OK comeback at age 37 in 2041, but his abilities had declined significantly, and he decided to call it quits after that season. He finished his career with 987 tackles, 324 assists and 100.5 sacks STAFF HIRING PERIOD I keep the same coach and re-hire my scout. Here’s the update: HEAD COACH Brad Heard SCOUT Alan Behrendt Ticket Price/Franchise Player I had a $495.29M profit last year. My fan loyalty remained at 100. I’ll let him fly *DT Russell—Like C Curtis, his ratings are mediocre. If a star C or DT comes along, look for me to snag one in free agency. Otherwise, I’ll re-sign ‘em both. Renegotiations To Save Cap Room G Shanks—3yrs, $23.76M T Leathers—4yrs, $48.85M DE Sneed-4yrs, $56M Cuts To Save Cap Room LB Mulligan—last year’s breakout LB, Percy Morin, is ready. New UFA’s During 20-Step Process C Daniel Starks—Week 8, 3yrs, $27.74M, 12th-year man, ratings of 94,74,72. Career OPCT of 24.6. DT Bruce Kadanoff—Week 13, 3yrs, $15.78M. Russell wanted over $13M per year in cap cost for ratings of 41/46,48/54,51. Kadanoff is similar at 29/46,22/30,43. His only shortcoming compared to Russell is pass rushing, and my DT’s aren’t used for pass rushing anyway. Kadanoff only costs me $4.35M under the cap this year. RFA’s and UFA’s Re-signed RB Terrell—4yrs, $52M G Hall—3yrs, $26.8M DT Russell—Irony of ironies. No one signs him during free agency and I get him a lot cheaper than his original asking price. I may not be able to afford to keep Kadanoff now, but I’ll wait until after the draft to see. Amateur Draft I could use a little youth at WR and LB, and my starters at S and DE will be looking for stupid money (thanks to Morgado for that phrase) after this season. Otherwise, best available will be the order of the day. Here is my draft: 1(36): WR Les Wheeler—45/88,55,46/92,74,65. 78 endurance. Very solid-looking WR. He’ll probably be WR3 this year, then move into a starting role in a year or two. 2(36): LB Malcolm Rose—19/51,22/75,24/70,19/52,73. Looks solid. 3(36): DE Danny Thurman—20/55,17/40,50. Could be a solid DE. 4(36): RB Al Blanchard—pure redlines everywhere but short yardage (16/24), ypc (47/76) and catch frequency (13/25). All current ratings are: 50,16,49,47,62,13,52,41,76. 5(36): C R.J. Kehoe—30/71,15/47,42. Could be a starter one day. At worst a capable backup. 6(36): DT Bill Stephens—10/50,5/28,62. Could step up and start. 7(36): QB Claude Henry—he has some pretty good red lines---insurance policy at QB. After the draft, I cut WR Broderick Webster, then sign youngsters to get us up to 53. Post Training Camp My first round pick, WR Les Wheeler, has his catching rating change from 45/88 to 53/62. Everything else is pretty much the same for him. 2nd Round pick Malcolm Rose drops to 8/34,11/66,12/59,6/35,64. Here’s the roster: From the desk of Allen Behrendt of the Richmond SkyDogs ----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- End of Regular Season Key Injuries During The Season QB Dorf—He tore a thumb ligament in game 6 and didn’t play again until game 15. I brought him back in game 15 to help us get into the playoffs when he was listed as questionable. He re-injured the thumb and was out long term. WR Smith—Tore a calf muscle in game 6 and didn’t play again in regular season. DE Pulley—Broke his fibula in game out. Out long term through next season. TE Lynch—Sprained his back in Game 12. Out for rest of regular season. CB Gladney—Tore knee cartlidge in Game 16. Out until next year. Season Recap We fought and struggled through all these injuries to key people and earned a Wild Card birth in the playoffs with a 9-7 record. 3rd-year man Ralph Buckner did an adequate job filling in for Dorf. Skydog - I was about to feel sorry for you - always a high roster rating, but no success on the field. Than I read the section with 6 straight Super Bowl victories. I don't think you need my pity after all! Good work!

RICHMOND SKYDOGS 2043
HALL OF FAME The following two former SkyDogs enter the team HOF this year: K Chris Hawes—Hawes was drafted by me with the 4(22) pick in 2021. I had another kicker with better current ratings who was in the last year of his contract that year, so Hawes didn’t see action until 2022. And what action he saw! He was a 5-time All Pro, and finished his career with 556 field goals, an NFL Record by a fairly wide margin. In addition he was 685 for 695 on his extra points. P Edgar Bostick—I drafted him with the 3(34) pick in 2022 and he was my punter from day 1. He was a 4-time All Pro, averaging 43.1 yards per punt over his career. RETIREES Just one…. LB Bruce Willis—He was picked up by me as a 15th year veteran UFA in 2041. Signed him to a 2-year deal. He had 2 solid seasons with me then retired. He was a 2-Time All Pro, and finished his career with 1253 tackles (15th all time), 421 assists, 43 sacks and 2 INT’s. He was drafted with the 1(9) pick by Detroit in 2027. STAFF HIRING PERIOD I keep the same scout, but get a new coach. Here’s the update: HEAD COACH Keith Blades SCOUT Alan Behrendt Ticket Price/Franchise Player I had a $277.91M profit last year. My fan loyalty remained at 100. The ‘Skins prices go up a bit, so mine do too. Here are the prices: (Washington prices in parenthesis.) I can use a rookie at WR3. *DE Claude Pulley—He’s an RFA, former breakout 7th round draft choice. I’ll probably re-sign him. I also need a starting LB to replace the retired Bruce Willis. I could potential use a rookie here. Renegotiations To Save Cap Room CB Bush—3yrs, $38.75M LB Samuels—3yrs, $32M S Wooden—3yrs, $32M Cuts To Save Cap Room DT Kadanoff—costs too much for a backup since I need more room this year New UFA’s During 20-Step Process None. RFA’s and UFA’s Re-signed DE Pulley—4yrs, $52M After free agency, I get offered a 5th Round pick in exchange for FB Keane. My backup, Jake Lynch, is a better run blocker and has higher ratings for ypc and he has solid, but not outstanding like Keane, catching ratings. I go ahead and make the trade though. Amateur Draft I could use WR3 and a starting LB. Here is my draft: 1(24): LB Renaldo Barker—38/77,42/86,31/57,56/100,56. Pretty solid ratings right now with very good potentials. Looks like he’ll start. 2(24): WR Fernando Lively—31/80,50,33/76,64,82. Looks like a good WR3. 3(24): LB Ty Gomez—44/56,26/39,16/28,35/36,57—Pretty decent backup LB. 4(24): S Jeff Wild—22/52,23/76,20/50,35—Need a backup safety right now. 5(24): T Jon Rose—14/31,16/49,79—Backup T 5(28): G Carlton Knott—12/46,14/42,54—Backup G 6(24): RB Thomas Vogt—near redliner 7(24): DT Allen Button—26/71,11/33,50. Very nice for 7th round. After the draft, I sign youngsters to get us up to 53. Post Training Camp My second round pick, WR Fernando Lively, has his ratings drop a bit, but not in a major way. He should still be solid at WR3. 2nd Round pick Malcolm Rose drops to 8/34,11/66,12/59,6/35,64. Here’s the roster: From the desk of Allen Behrendt of the Richmond SkyDogs ----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- End of Regular Season Key Injuries During The Season LB Baker—Dislocated his elbow in game 2. Doubtful for the 1st game of playoffs. Season Recap The offense struggled a bit, but the defense was strong as usual. We went 10-6 and earned a Wild Card playoff birth. Philly won the division. The key numbers: QB Dorf—247 for 405 (60.9%) 2795 yds, 19TD's,11INT’s, 85.9 QB Rtg. Solid year. With Dorf doubtful, Buckner gets the start at QB and plays well. He went 26 for 39 for 231yds, 2 TD’s and 1 INT. However, without the running game, that wasn’t enough offense. After the loss, I release several players whose contracts are going to run out to give myself cap room to extend the following contracts: TE Lynch—2 more years CB Alexander—3 more years Divisional Playoffs Portland 27, Carolina 3 New England 20, Indianapolis 7 Philadelphia 31, Greensboro 14 Tennessee 31, Colorado Springs 3 Conference Championships New England 16, Tennessee 15 Portland 28, Philadelphia 6 Super Bowl New England 30, Portland 10 Awards FB Lynch—2nd Team All Pro—rushing and receiving stats above, 11 for 29 KRB C Starks—2nd Team All Pro—41 for 110 KRB, 4 sacks, 23.0 OPCT Herb's Ratings Performance: 63 Frnc. RICHMOND SKYDOGS 2044
HALL OF FAME The following two former SkyDogs enter the NFL HOF this year: S Norbert Cain—Cain was drafted by me with the 1(30) pick in 2024 and became a full-time starter in his 3rd season. We also have one who enters the team HOF: LB Norman McNeely—He was drafted by me with the 1(12) pick in 2028 and became a starter in his rookie season. He had a brilliant career as the main cog in our potent defense that won seven straight Super Bowls and eight out of nine. He finished his career with 987 tackles, 324 assists and 100.5 sacks RETIREES None. STAFF HIRING PERIOD I keep the same scout and coach. Here’s the update: HEAD COACH Keith Blades SCOUT Alan Behrendt Ticket Price/Franchise Player I had a $309.15M profit last year. My fan loyalty remained at 100. Renegotiations To Save Cap Room None. Cuts To Save Cap Room TE Lynch—Backup Joe Patton is a better run blocker and comparable pass catcher. DT Russell—2 backups are almost as good and a lot cheaper. New UFA’s During 20-Step Process None. RFA’s and UFA’s Re-signed FB Lynch—3yrs, $16.6M P McGee-2yrs, $4.93M K Oates—3yrs, $10.44 Amateur Draft I could use viable backups and CB, TE and FB. 1(26): CB Marcus Grant—Rated 45/95 in M2M and 98 in endurance. Should start by next year. 2(26): TE Melvin Boyd—34/57,24/49,60,32/98,90,75,48—Solid backup. 3(26): LB Fernando Pearson—30/93,18/48,16/46,26/65,73 4(26): DT John Bullock—20/59,11/40,52. Very solid for late 4th round. Could start next year. 5(26): RB Chad Whitfield—Very good RB for this point in draft. 6(26): DT Jesse Clinton—26/57,14/40,56. Another solid DT. 7(26): WR Dusty Grant—Near redliner After the draft, I release DT Allen Button (due to excess of DT’s) and sign youngsters to get us up to 53. Of note is that I have a little extra money, so I’m able to sign 2nd-year QB Dwayne Curtis who has pretty decent ratings. In case Dorf retires before the challenge is over, Curtis could become the man. I also can afford to re-sign RFA S Jessie Gramentine, who has a 93 potential in M2M defense, to a 3-year deal. Post Training Camp My second round pick, TE Melvin Boyd, has his potential ratings improve a bit. Undrafted FA C Antoine Newman has his run block potential jump up to 81, and undrafted DE Edwin Broussard improves to 25/39, 24/55,51. Here’s the roster: From the desk of Allen Behrendt of the Richmond SkyDogs We sold out all 90,00 seats once again. ----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- End of Regular Season Key Injuries During The Season C Starks—Suffered a hip pointer in game 15 and is doubtful for 1st game of playoffs. Season Recap With QB Dorf declining and a strong OL,RB,FB and TE, I ran the ball like never before. We threw the fewest passes in the league with 415. RB Terrell was a workhorse, leading the way to an 11-5 finish and a wild card birth. The key numbers: QB Dorf—229 for 385 (59.4%) 2885 yds, 15TD's,15INT’s, 79.6 QB Rtg. This is the last year of his contract and I don’t care how many Super Bowls he helped us win, the 39-year-old is too far past his prime. He won’t get re-signed next year. RB Terrell—318 for 1604 yds (5.0ypc) 17TD’s, 44 catches, 481 yds, 2TD’s. What a season! He was a 4-time All Pro, averaging 43.1 yards per punt over his career. CB Ross Reeves—I signed Reeves as a 5th-year man. He was a UFA from Baltimore, coming off an All-Pro season in 2029. He was classic lock-down corner for me and was a big help in my Super Bowl run. He won 2 Super Bowl MVP’s as a SkyDog. In his career, he had 66 INT’s, ran back 8 INT’s for TD’s, gave up 394 catches in 232 games (less than 2 a game and played the other team’s best WR M2M the huge majority of the time). He had a 36.1PDQ. He was a 2-Time All Pro. RETIREES None. STAFF HIRING PERIOD I keep the same scout and coach. First 8 years of career was in Oakland. Ratings are 69/84,64/78,76. He was demanding a trade from Oakland. I sure don’t blame him! Signed in week 7. QB Clarence Rossum—5yrs, $171M—Ratings are all average-to-above average. 7th year guy, has started the last 2 years in Atlanta. Had a mediocre 74.1 rating last year. His current passing ratings range from 44 to 68 and potentials range from 52 to 78. Pretty good scrambler. 80 in scramble frequency and 68 in carrying. Signed in Week 11. Here’s the roster: From the desk of Allen Behrendt of the Richmond SkyDogs We sold out all 90,000 seats once again. Big change this year. We’re gonna play 3-4 defense. ----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- End of Regular Season Key Injuries During The Season DT Marshall—Suffered a sprained knee in Game 6 and didn’t return until Game 13. He was our nose tackle. I replaced him by using 3 DE’s, using DE Sneed at nose tackle, which brings us to our other key injury….. DE Sneed—Broke his arm in Game 12, the week before DT Marshall’s return. Didn’t return the rest of the year. Season Recap With a new QB, we just couldn’t quite get enough offense, and our 16 season playoff run comes to an end. We finish 9-7. The key numbers: QB Rossum—232 for 377 (61.5%) 2709 yds, 12TD's,12INT’s, 80.6 QB Rtg. Just a little better than Dorf last year. RICHMOND SKYDOGS 2046
HALL OF FAME One former SkyDog enters the NFL Hall of Fame this year…. LB Norman McNeely—He was drafted by me with the 1(12) pick in 2028 and became a starter in his rookie season. He had a brilliant career as the main cog in our potent defense that won seven straight Super Bowls and eight out of nine. He finished his career with 987 tackles, 324 assists and 100.5 sacks RETIREES Three SkyDogs hang ‘em up. C Daniel Starks: Starks was drafted 1(15) by Tampa Bay in 2031. He spent 5 years there, never becoming a full-time starter. Then, he spent two years in Philly, followed by four in Denver all as a starter. He was 1st Team All Pro his first year in Philly. He came to Richmond as a FA in 2042, where he played the remaining four years of his career, winning 2nd-Team All Pro honors in 2043 and 2044. All-in-all, he finished his 15-year career with 3 All Pro honors, 357 KRB and a 23.7 OPCT. G Edwin Shanks—He was drafted 1(34) by me in 2031, and spent his entire career as a SkyDog. He became a full-time starter in his 3rd season, and performed very well throughout his career, including a 4-season run from 2035-2038 in which he was 1st Team All Pro every season. All in all, he finished with seven All Pro honors, 373 KRB and a 19.1 OPCT. WR Gary Patel—He was drafted 5(36) by me in 2036. A redliner, he broke out for me and became a starter in his rookie season. He had an all-world game in the Super Bowl his rookie year, catching 11 passes for 174 yards and 4TD’s to win the Super Bowl MVP. He was a very good receiver in my run-oriented offense for the rest of his 10-year career, catching 464 passes for 7356 yards and 40TD’s. Post Training Camp My fourth round pick, S Derek Franklin, improves to 38/46,33/44,74,73 and 45 endurance. With over $8M in cap room, I grab the best available 3rd-year-or-under player, WR Tyrell Shelton and cut 2nd-year man Alan Dilbert.
