The Road trailer
The Road trailers and video clips on Yahoo! Movies
Such an amazing book, if soul-wrenchingly depressing. I'll be interested to see how the movie turns out. |

That book was a pretty good, challenging (at least to me...I'm neither as smart or as much of an avid reader as most on FOFC) read. Definitely soul-crushing, in the sense that you have to really lower your expectations of happiness to feel anything good about what's going on (ie, the kid getting to drink a can of soda). The trailer looks alright, except for the wife. She should barely even be in the movie.

Hmm, never read that book. I might have to pick it up now though.

I'm looking forward to this one. This was the first book by Cormac McCarthy that I read and it 30 or 40 pages for me to get comfortable with his writing style. He is definitely a tougher read than most, but all of the stories that I have read from him have been pretty good.
I read the Road shortly after it came out, so I don't remember it real well, but I'm interested to see what they're going to do with Duvall and Theron since (in my memory, at least) the book completely revolved around the father and son. |

I'm a huge McCarthy fan so I'm very interested in this one.
The trailer looks way too much like an action film which I hope isn't the case. It looks like they nailed the look and atmosphere though. The director previously did The Proposition which was a pretty good movie and I think showed he could do something like The Road justice. |

Yeah, the scenes with the mother need to be fairly short. I was also mildly disappointed that they seem to be doing more of a 'reveal' with how the world got this way rather than the dad's standard answer of "there was a flash in the sky..." But I figure most audiences will want that ambiguity removed. It also looks a bit more action based than the book, but again that is of no surprise.
I have numerous students pumped up about seeing this as this is one of the books we use in our Humanities IV class. |
