How come coaches use prevent when it makes no sense, but when it finally is needed they don't use it?

"Just the second loss in the college career of Kellen Moore."

Wow. I don't care who you've played or where you fit in the national picture, if you're in a D-1 program and can have that said about you, you've had a pretty kickass college career.

Of course, both of those losses will haunt you all the way to the grave vs. the guy who was on a team that lost 12-15 in his college career, but still.

Nevada has had amazing season and it's cool they could cap it off with something like this. They were only a 6-point loss to Hawaii from who knows what.

What a season for Nevada. They played a decent out of conference schedule, absolutely destroying Cal and Colorado State and winning at BYU. Not really their fault those teams were having down years. Their only loss was 27-21 at Hawaii ... and I think if that game were not in Hawaii they probably win. Those trips to the island can be very tough.

With the trip to Hawaii they also get a 13th game, so they have a great chance to 12-1 heading into bowl season.

6 points away from Jon complaining about 1 more team not being good enough.

I love the Pistol offense though, I wish Wyoming would hire a coach that would adopt it. Well and someone would give us money to add D-1 hockey. That's all.

So a missed 24-yard FG sends Boise St. from the Rose Bowl to the Kraft Hunger Bowl, most likely, or possibly the Humanitarian Bowl in Boise.

Bring on Temple!

To be fair, UNLV has a lot of asshole fans, too, especially in the student section. It irritates me at times, but I just do my best to tune it out and concentrate on the game.

Kicker for a major college program might be one of the worst roles in sport. Chances are you aren't on scholarship or you at least weren't for your first couple of years, so you don't have that benefit. You probably aren't getting great coaching, you have almost no shot of playing at the next level because NFL kickers last for 20 years, you very rarely get credit for doing a good job and if you miss one (or two) kicks in a big game you are a complete pariah and are likely to need a police escort around campus, never mind people that will remember you 20 years down the line. Brotztman might want to get a job as far away from Boise as he possibly can once he graduates.

I'd say the same for all kickers but I think I'd take all the abuse in the world for an NFL minimum salary and pension. Scott Norwood might disagree though.

edit - to at least get the poor kid's name right. Seriously, leader in active players in points scored, WAC special teams player of the year and all he will be remembered for is as a choker. He had better pray that Oregon or Auburn doesn't slip up.

Most program's give kicker's a scholarship and have for a few years.

Although I wanted Nevada to win, I hate to see it happen that way. If this was the NFL and a kicker making a nice paycheck, fine. But that poor kid is going to live with this forever. Just feel horrible for him. Especially since there are so many people who take the sport way too serious.

I could probably support Oregon's style of play. Tough it amazes me that a team will run a shotgun handoff running play on 4th and 1. Or Pistol I guess.

There are 120 D1 schools.
At most 16 teams make the playoffs. That leaves the fans of 104 teams uninterested. In the NFL nearly a full half of the league is in the playoffs. Now a 64 team fieldd would be sweet but its just not feasible.

Wow that Boise St - Nevada game was crazy.

Doesn't really matter who Oregon plays for the National Championship, no team can hang with them for 4 quarters.

Now go beat KU today Missouri!!!

Who wants the Big East's autobid? It's hard for even the biggest BE supporters like myself to argue for the conference when UConn controls its own destiny with losses to Temple and Rutgers on its resume.

Under that math, George Brett nearly hit .500 in 1980!

And even if the Eagles aren't in the playoffs or have been eliminated, I'm still interested in the playoffs. I'm interested in the league as well as a specific team.

I'm not going to buy this "every week is a playoff" stuff until teams like Georgia State, Chattanooga, Louisiana-Monroe, Arkansas State, McNeese State, etc. aren't on schedules. No, schools like TCU and Boise St. don't play the schedules other teams do. But saying that EVERY GAME is a do-or-die test is just a joke. (Nevermind that 3 of the last 4 champs actually *have* had losses).
