Breakfast at Tiffany's is the worst, but look at those matchups.
It's the equivalent of Duke coming out of a bracket where the other top seeds are San Diego State, Butler, and Memphis.

It is pretty bad, but it's such a good example of one hit wonder. I almost voted for it just because of that. |

Soft Cell vs House of Pain is a brutal pairing.
One of the things I've discovered (or simply become more aware of) as the brackets narrowed is how popular some of these OHWs are for cover material, specifically in different genres. That pairing is one that features songs that I know multiple hard rock covers of each for.

Soft Cell vs House of Pain - House of Pain had a lot of support coming into this match up. Despite the fact it had 2 very tough opponents in the last two rounds, HoP was still receiving 61% of the votes, but Soft Cell came in with the second highest vote total overall, and it ended up not being close.
Semisonic vs Twisted Sister - TS has been one of the best performing songs in the bracket. Semisonic's tough road hid how strong it was, which is why this vote total was reasonably close. The next round will be one I watch closely. Nena vs Numan - two songs that are synonymous with OHW. Thought Cars might get more support, but Nena continues the recent run of pulling low 30 votes each round, against what appears to be a really strong road. Deep Blue Something vs Imbruglia - literally each round I've expected DBS to lose. Originally, I thought the more classic rock song would win out over the song that is regularly listed as one of the most hated. After that, it was because of tough match ups...but the song keeps moving on - making it all the way to the sweet 16. I expect this will be the end of the road for Breakfast at Tiffany's, but like I said, I've thought that before - several times. Last edited by Breeze : 01-23-2020 at 08:58 AM. |
