Birth of the LA Titans

The year is 2028.

The wait for a title goes on and on.

There's been a lot of tough years in Tennessee...alot of missed oppurtunities. Some bad decisions. Some great decisions. Recently things have changed somewhat. Two conference finals in the last 3 years. Now it's time to leave Tennessee. We're going big.

Welcome to the LA Titans

The Story so Far

The Team

2014 (9-7 [L - Wildcard]) - This was a suprisingly good first season. We finished 9-7 behind a 1500 yard rushing season from Bishop Sankey. Jake Locker kept things serviceable throughout the year, but in the end it was a Wild Card division loss to Denver that ended our season.

2015 (12-4 [W - Divisional Round, L - Conference Final]) - A better WR core, with Justin Hunter stepping up and joined by Michal Crabtree in free agency, produced 800 yard season for both. The defense played a big part too. Jason McCourty grabbed 8 INT's to give himself a place on the 2nd All-Team roster. The season ended in the conference finals where we were dominted by Cincy.

2016 (4-12 [N/A]) - Boy what a drop off. From Conference Finals to 4-12. Jake Locker held out, meanwhile an undrafted free agent named Irv Anderson came in. He really impressed us. Jake was traded, and Irv Anderson was our new QB. Not a terrible rookie year for him. 3245 yards, 17 TD's and 14 INT's...promising. The issue was defense. Big drop in pass rush, big drop in pass defence. Ken Whisenhunt was done in Tennessee.

2017 (9-7 [L - Wildcard] - We bounced back quickly under new coach Billy Davis. A very polarising figure in Tennessee which we'll get too later. Big step forward for Irv Anderson. 3800 yards, 25 TD's, 15 INT's. Despite declines in their ability's, Crabtree and Hunter both produced around 1000 yards each. Bishop Sankey also proved a good end zone threat as the RB caught 7 TD's to add to his 5 rushing. The pass rush bounced back as Jurrell Casey 11.5 sacks, 35 hurrys and 35 QB'Kd. Our 2nd round draft pick, safety Scottie Hickman started on a road to very good career. We finished 9-7, however lost once again to the Bronco's in the wildcard.

2018 (8-8 [N/A]) - We finished 8-8 which I find quite suprising. We probably deserved to finish a lot worse. Bishop Sankey dropped below 1000 yards rushing for the first time. Our top tackler was Hickman with just 73 tackles and having missed 2 games through injury. Poor show. We traded up to take CB Ricky Gibson at 3rd overall. It cost alot, but we were desperate for pass defense with McCourty getting on in age. Gibson missed half the season through injury and had us worried. His training camp rating of 37/90 looked so promising. Even when it dropped to 41/85 after pre-season we were delighted. But it only helps if he's on the field. The one positive was Jurrel Casey getting All NFL 1st team at DE.

2019 (10-6 [L - Wildcard]) - Irv Anderson continues to put in solid season with little help at WR. 3600 yards, 21 TD's, 14 INT's. 85.6 QB Rating would be his best with the Titans and earned him a $100 million contract (we're leading up to the first big mistake). Sankey's decline had begun and 2016 3rd round pick Dakota Shepard looked ready having patiently waited. Sankey was traded. Shepard put up 1200 yards and 8 TD's in his first season as starter. Avery Williamson put up 106 tackles on defence, while more of the same with Jurrel Casey. Ricky Gibson stayed healthy the whole season, and stepped up big with 10 INT's and an 86.9% PD%. He was rewarded with all-league 1st team CB in just his 2nd year. But it was another year ending in a loss in the wildcard. This time to the Jets.

And this was as good as it would be for quite a few years...

2020-2028 summary to come a bit later.

The Team (cont.)

2020 (1-15 [N/A]) - Embarrasment. Pure and simple. A week 2 win against Green Bay was all that stopped us from the worst possible outcome. Having just got a $100 million contract, Irv Anderson had 2900 yards, 8 TD's and 16 INT's. Now perhaps I was harsh as he didnt have much help at RB or WR. But for that contract, I demanded more. At the end of this season, he was traded (Big Mistake). Avery Williamson had over 120 tackles, but our 2nd highest tackler started only 11 games. Ricky Gibson did what he could with 6 INT's, but overall the team was a shambles. For some reason, I decided to let Billy Davis keep his job.

2021 (5-11 [N/A]) - Complete overhaul on offense. Irv Anderson gone. Dakota Shepard gone. 1st Overall pick, and future icon of Titan football Kelvin Nagy came in at WR. Mario Walsh, backup since drafted in 2015, became our new QB starter. Meanwhile, at Houston Irv Anderson puts up 4600 yards, 28 TD's and 13 INT's. Oops. Kelvin Nagy's rookie season was very encouraging. 123 catches, 1000 yards, 7 TD's off of a not great QB. Not enough for rookie of the year, but a great start. Scottie Hickman put up 92 tackles from safety but the pass rush struggled with no one topping 5.5 sacks

2022 (6-10 [N/A]) - We had the 2nd overall pick in the draft. Mario Walsh was never the answer at QB so we took Lukas Marquez. It was a bit of a miss in the end. He threw for 3800 yards, but 16 TD's and 20 INT's was not so good. Our 3rd round pick from the previous year, Derek Rose (not signed from the Chicago Bulls ) became our no 1 RB. It was not succesfull with just 800 yards rushed. Kelvin Nagy stepped up his route to stardom. 111 catches, 1400 yards and 7 TD's. He benefited from a gun slinger even if the team didnt as he received All NFL 2nd team honours. With our additional 1st round we received for trading Irv Anderson, we drafted DE Cory Chastain. He led the team in sacks with 7.5 sacks. Ricky Gibson only had 3 INT's, but his great defence gave him an All NFL 2nd team place. In the offseason we would announce that we are moving to Los Angeles.

2023 (8-8 [N/A]) - The year Kelvin Nagy broke out. 116 catches, 1811 yards, 19 TD's (a still standing, one-season record)...now take into account that Lukas Marquez only threw for 2300 yards and 22 TD's before going down injured after 10 games. Nagy had to deal with a FA scrub for the rest of the season. Elsewhere, Derek Rose topped 1000 yards for the first time. Scottie Hickman once again led the team in tackles, while Gibson had a down year at CB as our defence showed weaknesses.

2024 (7-9 [N/A] - Make it 5 straight years without the playoffs. 4200 yards, 27 TD's and 16 INT's for Lukas Marquez. By far his best year. However it was time to pay him and when Green Bay offered to trade for him at the end of the season, I couldnt help but say he's not worth the money he wants. He was gone. Unlike Irv, this one didnt bite me back. He signed a 3 year deal with GB, and never played. He was eventually released and retired after just 4 years. Kelvin Nagy does it again. 1871 yards, 17 TD's. He's easily the best in the league. Perhaps he'll go down as the best of all time. Derek Rose was let go due to other options on the team, however those options barely combined for 1000 yards between them. Ricky Gibson is back! 12 INT's and 4 TD's. Him and Kelvin Nagy are the two absoloute studs i've drafted in my time.

2025 (9-7 [W - Wildcard, W - Divisional, L - Conferance Final]) - Where did this come from?! 2023 1st round pick Harvey Washington became the starter after Marquez departed. He only lasted 11 games before injury. Caleb Jacomy, a 5th rounder from 2019 took over and led us to the playoffs with average play. Nagy had 1700 yards and 12 TD's...almost a dissapointment for his standard! It was his 3rd consecutive All NFL 1st Team award. Van Lang, a 2nd round OLB from 2021 led the team in sacks with 14.

2026 (11-5 [W - Divsional, L - Conference Final])
- A great season. Harvey Washington picks up another injury, this time 7 games in. Damon Dunn came in for the other 9, and both men finished with 100+ QB ratings. Wendell Lee rushed for 1000+ yards but i've never found a consistent RB threat since Bishop Sankey. A bit of a drop off for Kelvin Nagy. 1300 yards and 11 TD's. All NFL 2nd team this year. Feel sorry for him never really having a consistent, good QB to play with. Our first round pick, DE Dustin Shearer picked up 8.5 sacks. A promising start. Ricky Gibson managed 4 INT's, 2 TD's and an All NFL 2nd team place.

2027 (10-6 [L - Wildcard]) - Despite back to back Conference Finals, it was time for Billy Davis to go. His contract was quite large and we saw a very good replacement available. Raymond Fulmore was hired. I really wanted to give Tennesse a title in our last season in Nashville. Due to injury, Shaun Schumacher started the first two games and looked great. Harvey came back and did not. Amazing we finished 10-6 despite his 12 TD - 19 INT season. It gives a decision for this upcoming season. Another decline for Nagy. 1110 yards, TD's. You would think alot of that is down to QB play though. Much better at RB. Wendell Lee rushed for 1500 yards and 12 TD's. Cory Chastain up'ed his performance with 13.5 sacks. Meanwhile our pass defence has become particularly strong with Gibson pickin up 5 INT's and 2 TD's (plus All NFL 1st team honours) and Donnel Poston in his 2nd year with 6 INT's and 2 TD's.

So here we are...3 straight years of playoffs. A brand new 80,000 seater stadium in the heart of Los Angeles. Can we finally get ourselves a title?

Next up i'll do a league wide recap as we prepare for our first offseason and draft in LA.
