Well, I looked at that, and to be honest, he is so well rounded, that he doesn't really excel in any one area, but really doesn't have that many weaknessess either. His conditioning and fighting instincts (instincts don't show up in the scouting report) are his upsides.

Well here's hoping Mason's sprawl game is up to par or that he can catch Flamebeard with a big knee on a takedown try, not looking like Mason will want any part of the match to end up on the mat.

I have tweaked all of the fighters so some the ratings are going to be a little different then they were before. I was getting the feeling that I hadn't been as consistent as I could have. Hopefully, the guys should be evened out a little more than they were before.

Having said that here is the preview to our first fight.

Dammit Dusty v. Action Jackson: Doesn't look like this is going to be a good fight for the neutral, or for fans of the ground game. Dusty's a counter fighter, and can take a punch. Jackson is a "decent" puncher/kicker. Neither have really much ground skills, so it'll probably stay standing for thirty minutes. It all depends on how well Dusty can counter.

My Thoughts: It's probably going to decision, I'll say Dusty 29-28.

"Le Bluet" Nicolas Fillion vs Doomvan Alex Donovan

I don't think this is a good matchup for Fillion. Donovan is almost as good as him standing, but against a striker, if Donovan gets this matchup to ground, Fillion's in trouble. Can Fillion keep this match standing for thirty minutes, or knock out the iron chin of Donovan? Here's saying "I don't think so"

My Prediction: Donovan by submission

Any odds given on the fights or are we heading in pretty much just having the styles to base any predictions on? Just curious how much/little the game gives you to go on with such new fighters.

The game keeps you in the dark a little on the new fighters when it comes to predictions. I'll run blurcat's predictions by everyone before the fights are run.

Not necessarily my camp of choice but this should go a long way towards rounding out Mason's game. Now to just stay alive long enough in the tournament to give them time to teach him some jui-jitsu.

Sounds like Rob's camp kinda sucks. At least their two 'notables' are decent for him.

You may all now bet on Nielsen to win. It's in the bag, I tell you.

Despite the fact that yours truly has not historically fared well on any FOFC fighting "dynasty"...ever.

FIGHT 1

“Coffee Warlord” Rob Nielsen, 0-0 v. “Magnificent” Matt Alexander, 0-0

Round one sees CW fire off some loopy punches that are defended by Alexander. Alexander gets a single leg takedown, but CW is back up quickly. Alexander hits a jab, ducks, and then takes CW down again. In guard, Alexander controls the ground and tries to work and armbar, moves to side control and lands some big elbows. Alexander is almost able to get a kimura, but time expires.

Round two starts with some boxing by both fighters. Nielsen defends well, and is using front kicks and jabs to keep Alexander from coming in close. Alexander lands a hard right, then a solid kick to the ribs. Alexander fires a lead right, but CW sees it and lands a solid kick right to the jaw of Alexander. He drops to the floor, where CW lands hammerfist after hammerfist until the ref stops the fight at 1:51

FIGHT 2

“Smart” Alec Sander, 0-0 v. “The Canadian not the Composer” John Williams, 0-0

Round one was punctuated by Sander standing in the middle of the ring and beckoning Williams toward him. Sander was loading up on big punches and managed to land a couple of good punches to the body and head. Williams spent the round ducking and moving, and landed a blow here and there.

Round two opens with Williams looking a little dazed from the big punches in the first round. Sander was able to land a couple of light punches, but most were defended, while Williams hit a couple of jabs and pulled Sander into a clinch. The clinch lasts most of the rest of the round.

Round three starts with Sander coming out firing punches right away. Williams finally succeeds in getting Sander in a clinch, and takes him to the ground with a trip. Williams has side control and tries a kimura. He can't get it and fires off a few shots. He tries for a mount, but Sander is able to shake him off, and fight back to a standing clinch where the fight ends.

30-27 Sander, 29-28 Williams, and 29-28 for “Smart” Alec Sander.

Fillion's brother Yanick has offered to step in for the injured Nicolas. The offer is on the table, if Donovan doesn't find a way out of the challenge and if the FOFC officials are in agreement, Yanick will be ready to step into the cage in March.

Name: Yanick Fillion
Nickname: "Le Rat Musqué"
Age: 24
Nationality: Canadien
Fighting Weight: 203
Hometown: Chicoutimi, QC
Height: 6'0"

Fighting Style: Muskrat
Fighting Approach: Methodical

1) Standing Strikes
2) Fighting Instincts
3) Chin
4) Takedown Defense
5) Physical Strenght

"Le Rat Musqué" may be the big brother of "Le Bleuet", but it doesn't show in the cage. While Nicolas is a forward-first, intense fighter who likes to trade punch for punch, Yanick is a more laid-back fighter who waits for openings and who likes to capitalise on openings. He is a patient fighter who is not affraid of making a fight boring as long as he comes out on top. There's a problem with that style though, "Le Rat Musqué" doesn't currently have the conditionning nor the work ethic to let the fight play out for too long, which would make him a much more dangerous player.

FIGHT 3

“Dammit” Dusty Coldwater, 0-0 v. Theodore “Action” Jackson, 0-0

Round one sees Action Jackson come out firing. Some punches are traded early. Jackson pushes Coldwater against the cage in a clinch, and goes for a trip. It doesn't work and Coldwater springs off the cage taking Jackson down into guard. Coldwater brings some light GnP, while Jackson was looking for a triangle from the guard.

Round two starts with Coldwater coming out hard swinging. They trade blows until Coldwater catches a leg from Jackson and takes him to the ground again. Coldwater is leaving himself vulnerable with his GnP, but his punches are keeping Jackson from doing much of anything. Jackson keeps a tight guard, and once again tries and fails to land the triangle submission.

Round three starts with Dusty firing off some kicks, and then both men trade blows in the center of the cage. Dusty catches Jackson with a big right and Jackson stumbles back. Coldwater attacks, but Jackson clinches up. Coldwater eats a knee in the clinch, but then uses a single leg to take Jackson down again. Coldwater has side control and seeks an armbar right away, but Jackson is able to fight out of it, and Coldwater motions him to get back up. Jackson can't get anything going before the fight ends.

30-27, 29-28 and 29-28 all for "Dammit" Dusty Coldwater

FIGHT 4

“Silent Assassin” Rohan Shah, 0-0 v. “Niclovin” Nicholas Thomas, 0-0

Round one starts with Shah surprisingly coming out fast. He fires of punch after punch and forces Niclovin back to the cage. A hook finds Niclovin, and he is forced to clinch up. Both men fight for position, and Thomas hits a couple of knees. The ref breaks them up and Shah scores a single leg takedown of Thomas. Shah tries to land a couple of big punches, but Niclovin throws his hips, hits the triangle choke, and Shah has no way out. He finally taps at 3:21 of round one.

One half of the quarterfinals are set

“Coffee Warlord” Rob Nielsen, 1-0 v. “Smart” Alec Sander, 1-0

“Dammit” Dusty Coldwater, 1-0 v. “Niclovin” Nicholas Thomas, 1-0

FWIW, the pbp of the Coldwater fight indicates to me that he turned out pretty much like I was aiming for, nice job Pilot.

In reading that though, he did seem a little more aggressive than I would have expected. What would have been the correct instruction/trait for me to have given him (in game terminology or MMA terminology for that matter) to have made him a little more apt to sit on a presumptive point lead & make Jackson come to him? Not to the point of inactivity that the crowd would totally turn on the fight/fighter but to the degree that there would have been scattered boos for the lack of offense if Jackson didn't press the issue.

BOOOOOO! Ref stopped the fight too soon!

Not to the point of inactivity that the crowd would totally turn on the fight/fighter but to the degree that there would have been scattered boos for the lack of offense if Jackson didn't press the issue.

Keep in mind that the fighters still try and fight how they want in the fight. He did come out more aggressively than I would have guessed too, but in the end it turned out to be the correct strategy didn't it?

Looking at his profile, he is already one of the more patient and even keeled fighters in FOFC. So I wouldn't judge him by just this one fight.

That's cool, I'm just trying to understand the game a little better having only played the demo & never pulling the trigger on buying it.

That may change if I keep liking what I'm seeing with Jari's dynasty thread (I like the blending of the fictional & real universes, just always hesitant about how well that works out from a play balance standpoint).

Not sure how I feel about my two fighters going at it tonight. I am thinking that Johnson is going to win. Either one should be able to take Doomvan or Fillion though.

Fight One

“Doomvan” Alex Donovan, 0-0 v. Yanick “Le Rat Musque” Fillion, 0-0

Round one starts with both fighters touching gloves in cage center. Donovan presses forward but it's Fillion that lands the better blows. Fillion presses the action and backs Donovan all the way to the cage. Donovan tries to clinch up but Fillion thwarts him. Donovan presses action from cage center and again Fillion outstrikes him.

Round two saw Fillion come out more aggressively, but neither fighter was real crisp. There were a lot of exchanges, but neither fighter seemed to have the upper hand. The end up in a clinch where Donovan is able to land a couple of knees, they break and each fighter lands a couple punches before the round ends.

Round three is really slow. Both men exchange punches in the middle, and there is a lot of grabbing. Fillion finds some energy and fires off a flury of punches. Donovan can't seem to muster up much offense and the round ends with a clinch.

29-28 from all three judges all for Yanick “Le Rat Musque” Fillion.

Fight Two

“Tiny” Bruce Douglas, 0-0 v. “Anvil Hands” Brian Johnson, 0-0

Round one starts with Johnson attacking in the middle. Tiny fights back, but Johnson nails him with a hard punch while pressed against the cage. Douglas is able to fight back to the center, and Johnson attacks, but Douglas is able to take him down. Johnson tries to get up, but Douglas takes his back, and goes for the choke. Johnson bucks and manages to twist Tiny off. Johnson keeps him back with a big kick, they exchange and the round ends.

Round two finds Douglas working an angle for a takedown. They exchange punches and kicks, and clinch in cage center. Douglas hits a knee, and goes for a second but Johnson pushes him away. Douglas falls backward. Johnson sees the mistake and lands a hard punch and starts letting everything go. Many punches are missing or are being blocked. An elbow lands, and Douglas tries to grab a guillotine, but a hard left from Johnson rocks Douglas and the ref steps in, much to Tiny's dismay. Time is 2:24 of round 2.

Fight Three

“The Hunter” Jace Mason, 0-0 v. “EFotNHNT” Erik Flamebeard, 0-0

It should be noted that Windy Miller is at the fights tonight. He spent most of the day at the pub, now he is with the ring girls, and is taunting both fighters as they enter the cage.

Round one is a feeling out round. Neither fighter seems willing to commit to the fight. Both men exchange punches, with Flamebeard probably getting the better blows in. Mason lands a kick late.

Round two is very similar to round one. With both men casually exchanging blows in the center. Each man gets a chance here and there to land, but neither seems to be able to do much. They fall into a clinch, trade blows and end up against the cage. The ref breaks them up, and Mason lands a couple of good punches as the round ends.

Round three starts with Mason throwing a jab, then coming in for a takedown. Flamebeard and Mason end up in a power struggle and Flamebeard manages to get on top in a north-south position. Flamebeard lands a hard punch then spins into a full mount. Flamebeard begins smashing down on Mason, who is nearly powerless to stop it. Flamebeard grabs an arm and transitions to an Americana submission. Mason is had, he taps out at 0:56 of round three.
