Farewell Idaho, we hardly knew ye...
I was born in Idaho but did not grow up there, my parents left when I was three and I hadn't been back there until 2005. We lived near Boise for nearly six years, but a lack of jobs has finally taken us back to the Southwest, where I am starting a new job tomorrow.
With that....... Idaho....I love your climate, with leaves that change color in the fall, just enough snow in the winter so that you know you are in the northern hemisphere, a spring filled with rain and cool nights, and a hot summer with very little rain but the occasional inversion. Idaho....I love your people, whom are friendly and welcoming, regardless of where you come from or where you are going. Idaho....I had to leave you for the same reasons my parents left so many years ago: I need to make a living and you just can't offer me what I need. Farewell, Idaho...may time treat you with kindness like you showed me. Oh, and fuck if I ever drive a 24' moving truck again while hauling a van behind it over the mountains for two days. Diesel was "only" $4.19 a gallon. So...on to a new chapter in my life. Now, to get used to the heat!

Good luck!
I've been Idaho since 2006, this place has so much going for it, but not jobs. But I love how Boise really feels like a city, but if you go a few hours in any direction you're really in the middle of nowhere. So much beauty, and I haven't even seen most of it - this darn state is huge and a lot of it is not easily accessible. But I had to move on from the northeast to get someplace different and exciting, like you are now. Where did you live, Canyon County? Last edited by molson : 06-06-2011 at 12:32 AM. |

We moved to Idaho in 2005 and lived in both Canyon and Ada county. I will miss many things about it, but it was time to move on.

Thanks. First day was awesome! I said to my wife when I got home, "It was a pretty nice day outside, it was only around 97 degrees"....she responded that I have already acclimated to the heat. But what happens when it hits 115 later this summer?

Welcome to Arizona. You will get adjusted to the heat but it will take a summer first. And once you get through a winter of not having to shovel snow you'll be ok with 2 months of heat for 10 months of great weather. I'll keep you in mind when I have extra seats for an ASU game so you start off right in the valley

My wife is from the area, but I only lived here for about 2 months in 2005 before we moved to Flagstaff (then to Idaho after that). It WILL be nice to not have to shovel snow, although my son was the one doing it, not me. Quote:
That would be incredibly awesome!

When I read this thread title I was momentarily concerned that Idaho had passed away. Glad to hear she's still alive and kicking.
Congrats on the job! |

Congrats on the new job.
Idaho remains one of the most beautiful places I've ever been...it must have been hard to leave. |

So yeah, looks like we are moving back to Idaho next year. The kids keep asking if we can move back there and the wife doesn't like it here after all (she was born and raised here, but after living in a place with different seasons, she really misses Idaho). Also, most of her immediate family here has acted like asshats.
I would find all of this rather humorous if I hadn't spent over $5k for the move a few months ago. /facepalm

That was anti-climatic.
Ah well, things would sure be easier if we always knew what the future was gonna bring, but we don't. Except psychics. Last edited by molson : 09-22-2011 at 11:47 AM. |

That's a bit sad. That said, I've enjoyed the couple of weeks I have spent in Boise- seems like a good place.

We lived about 20 miles west of Boise for almost 6 years, and will be moving to Boise this time around just to be closer to stuff. I find myself missing Idaho as well, the older I get the less interested I am in big cities.

Closing on our house today! I will be in Idaho again on Memorial Day weekend. Just in time to escape this wonderful desert heat.
Very excited for this.

I've heard that states tend to die in threes -- I wonder which two will be next.

I would kill to pay that little for diesel. $8.87 per US gallon at my local garage. I don't have a huge tank in my car (BMW 320d) but it cost almost $50 to top up a tank that was almost two thirds full. At least I get 600+ miles from a tank instead of the 300 or so I was getting with unleaded. |
