Fanboy...
Not everyone who likes this game is a fanboy. I think this term gets used a bit to much...

Wow...a fellow Santa Barbaran. Resident or student, Dargone (if it's not too personal to ask)?

What's up Vince! I own my own computer consulting business and my girlfriend is pre-med at UCSB. It's pretty nice living in paradise, isn't it? Are you a student?

I would agree, it seems that unless you take the developer or any supporter to task over practically every point of a game that some would place this "fanboy" label on you. All games have both good and bad points, we should enjoy the good and where possible help to give feedback to the developer on areas not so good. I'll be at the chat, Markus had some encouraging things to say about the player creation part of the game yesterday.....I'm pumped for OOTP5!! |

i never said that everyone who likes the game is a fanboy. Just that the OOTP community is made up mostly of fanboys. An open chat, i'm sure, would probably be populated with a bunch of fanboys. That is all

The OOTP community seems to be very close-minded. Criticism of the game, especially by an "outsider", is usually crushed.

I wouldn't say 'mostly of fanboys'. There are just a few really vocal annoying ones . |

Dargone, sorry to take a while to get back to you, but yes, I am definitely a student, and it is indeed paradise. Makes me want to put off the graduating that I'm supposed to be doing soon...

I am not a huge OOTP fan, but it is the only decent baseball sim out there. It could be so much better.
I should post that on the OOTP board and watch the fan boys swarm to the post. I know who would be the first to reply, however I will not mention his name (anyone in the know, knows).

Considering it's an OOTP forum, what else would you expect? I would have to believe when FOF2 came out, the same might happen here. There is a difference between posting constructive criticism and posting rude remarks. Yeah, a few go overboard when coming to the aid of a game developer, but some of it is deserving. One big reason I am glad I'm a technician and NOT a programmer. Todd |

I haven't had enough time to judge it yet but I do have to say that I like a lot of the new features of OOTP5. I like the manager mode. The wife thing is somehting that I can do without but the fact that you now can actually have a career as a manager where you can get other job offers and you actually age.
My biggest problem with the game was always single player, I could never really get into it. I liked the multiplayer options but couldn't get deeply into it like with FOF or TCY. I think that's because you never really felt like you were actually in the game. Yeah, you controlled lineups and stuff but it really didn't matter much how you did. My next thing to try to find out is how well the computer AI is in single player for running teams. I like the interface changes. Much easier to navigate things now. Just a coupld gliches but I'll have to see if they are being looked into already. Like being in a submenu of a team option and canceling out and instead of returning to your team screen ending up back at the league screen. I'll have a full preview on my site after I am comfortable enough with my playing time to have enough questions answered for it. |
